Synopsis
Erai Tokoro ni Yomeide Shimatta is a comedy that focuses on a bride and her mother-in-law. In a turnaround from her role in Komyou ga Tsuji, Nakama Yukie plays Kimiko an unfeminine, sloppy wife who is a bad cook and housekeeper but is somehow mistaken for a "good wife" by her meddlesome, tradition-bound mother-in-law, Shimako, played by Matsuzaka Keiko. Tanihara Shosuke stars as Kimiko's husband, Isojiro, a good looking man who tries to please everybody around him.

1. JDorama from hell [Rating: 2/10]
The "mother-in-law, spouse, roommate, etc from hell" storyline has been done to death, and at best, I was expecting a recycling of that idea with Yukie's face & humor to liven it up, but this is a stinkeroo bomb. The writing is subpar and the actors basically have nowhere to go. They're spinning in the same mediocre circle, episode after episode. There's no one to hate, no one to cheer on, no one to be sympathetic with, no one to laugh at, nothing. Just run of the mill people put in dumb situations, being annoying, and the supposed endearing thing of all this is the family shows their love because they feel sorry for each other. They should feel sorry for the viewer.

2. not all that bad... [Rating: 8/10]
after watching the first episode, i was like, "divorce!" because no way could i stand the troubles that Kimiko's husband put her through with his family. i mean really, i was pretty damned annoyed and i didn't see how i could even finish watching a drama like this. and i felt the same after episode 2 and episode 3... but next thing you know, just as Kimiko had discovered, you start to really get into this quirky family and just accepting them for who they are. next thing i knew, i ended up enjoying the series and actually liking characters.

Iso: yes, still willy nilly and no backbone, but loving and has the best intentions.
Oka-sama: she misunderstands a lot, but she has got to be the nicest lady around!
Oto-sama: loved him. "hmmph!"
even that mean ass sister and annoying cousin grew on me. it was the first "bride & mother-in-law" drama i've seen, so i don't have nothing to compare it to. but as a drama itself, i found it enjoyable, funny, and endearing as it ended.

3. Relies on Trick [Rating: 5/10]
By the third episode it started to feel like watching Trick: Kimiko acts like Yamada Naoko, and in a foollish way, Isojiro is a little like Ueda. Kimiko and Isojiro's marriage is just a good friendship, rather than a loving wife and husband, as Kimiko explains... so why did they get married in the first place? The minor characters are unusual like Trick too.

There are a few laughs with Yukie's character, but this is mostly because the character is like Naoko!

After 2 to 3 episodes you will probably get tired of the same treatment - the wife get called by her mom-in-law reluctantly going back home to perform some traditional duties for the family, in the process, the husband messes things up and the wife would save the day. This is supposed to be a comedy but I don't find it funny at all. In the end, I wonder if the wife should keep her hubby as her little brother instead.

I'm still in the process of watching this series, but so far I'm unimpressed with the script. Nakama Yukie is her typical self in this drama about a woman who gets married and has to adapt to her husband's very traditional family. The plot is pretty predictable and the characterizations overly cliche. In fact, after watching a few episodes I found that all of the characters began to grate on my nerves a bit. The thing that I found most interesting about this drama is the Japanese traditions that are imposed onto Yukie's character by the mother versus her very modern self. In that aspect, I thought the drama succeeded.

Pretty funny and touching, but I am not too much into it after watching. The husband is really SOMETHING, funny indeed.

Shows in which the main male character is a mamas boy who has no spine is not new, but at least there is someone to straighten him out. But Nakama Yukie's character just lets him be the wuss he is. Pathetic. I couldn't even finish the second episode.

A light-hearted family comedy. Could be repetitive at times. But generally interesting.

it got slightly better towards the end of the series. the plot is predictable but occasionally certain spots are hilarious

nothing new. Similar to "double kitchen" but in much much worse. It's boring. I didn't cry, didn't laugh didn't feel anything watching it.

......it's still funny at ep. 3......
lovely garden, rich family, a husband who is not the eldest son, a husband who doesn't call his wife an idiot, a dotting mother-in-law and a 'constipated' father-in-law ("nggh"), why is it hell ? that's heaven :)

Does anyone know where is the filming location of the Yamamoto family. I thought the neighbourhood looks so Kyoto.

One of those stressful dramas that's only funny the opening episode and then just irritates you. These dramas are never original instead repetetive & predictable. Those who like dramas such as "Perfect bride" might enjoy this. Otherwise I only recommend this one for die hard fans of Nakama Yukie.

Very funny! I esp loved Tanihara Shosuke's character. Very unlike his role in Shinsengumi. It just shows his versatility as an actor, ne?
And I like the way the series showed the clash and merging of traditional and modern japanese.
