Synopsis
Tsukiyama Kayo is an editor of a fashion magazine. Contrary to the glamorous image of the fashion industry, Kayo always ends up doing work dumped on her by her younger colleagues. For the fifth year in a row, she is spending her birthday alone at the office.
One day, chief editor, Kawamura Ryoko says that the fashion magazine Kayo is in charge of will be suspended. She is thus transferred to the editorial desk of a comic book for girls, a genre that she is not interested in at all. Kayo will be in charge of Hanazono Yuriko, an extremely popular manga artist. When she arrives at Hanazono Yuriko's luxurious apartment to pick up the newest manuscript, Kayo meets Tanaka Ichiro, the veteran editor of a rival publisher. He has been working with girls' comics for 20 years. In the backroom are two men, supposedly assistants. Out of the blue, they order Kayo to go buy a girl's dress. They need it for the image-building of the comic's character. As a rookie editor, Kayo is in no position to talk back.
Thus, Kayo goes to town in search of the perfect dress. But when she tries a dress on, she jams the zipper. Unable to take it off, she is forced to leave the shop and walk around the city in an extravagant outfit.
When Kayo finally returns to the apartment, the men order her to prepare a meal. She can't take it any more and yells, "I'm here to see Hanazono Yuriko!"
"We're Hanazono Yuriko." Kayo turns around to see the men who have been pushing her around. She is shocked to learn that Hanazono Yuriko is actually consists of four brothers, Wataru, Osamu, Satoshi, and Hinata.
They warn Kayo to never let this secret become known. Kayo is still in shock, but right now, her priority is to get the manuscript due tomorrow morning. She begs the brothers to rush, but they say "not tonight" and leave the apartment

1. Interesting concept but Shaku needs acting lessons [Rating: 7/10]
A cute little drama that is small on story, but big on emotional pull, or at least thats what it was trying to be. I thought the four brothers did an excellent job - neither of them tried to out-act each other or take the spotlight, and they all had different interesting personalities for Shaku to fend off (which is a rare-fete now days as J-dramas seem to be getting shallower and shallower). Watch out for the otaku-brother and the manager-brother - both of whom stood out, actually all the brothers did, even the younger one did a good job with his coming-of-age role. The main disappointment was Yumiko Shaku who I thought majorly struggled through her role - she just lacked expressions on her face. It seemed she had a happy/sad/confused face but could not combine or easily alter between those emotions on screen, which really showed i thought. She's cute, but in this drama, which relied heavily on emotional input, she was caught out through her inability to draw out her own character's personality. The characters still had me grinning all the way through and the whole manga-concept was excellent and well concieved.

2. Hilarious story with a sense of obvious love [Rating: 8/10]
I loved this story because it was something that I didn't really expect. You always know about a manga artist's identity and in this drama the artist is hiding because they are GUYS creating one of the most popular girls manga! Shaku Yumiko got to spread away from her cute and serious woman role, and be an innocent and messed with assistant! All the actors played their roles right, from Kaname Jun to Kanata Hongo. This is a drama that is a must see for anyone, and I mean ANYONE because it's funny and witty.

Though I think the love sequence between the Wataru and Tsukiyama was way too obvious and headachy because Satoshi was in between the whole love triangle too. The love scenes I don't entirely recommend to antcipate for because although the chemistry is there, the build up to their final moment lacks. Pay attention to the bonding of the brothers, and the spectacular feat every character must go through to follow their dreams!

3. Entertaining [Rating: 7/10]
I agree with most of the reviews made previously although I want to do Shaku Yumiko a little more justice. Yes, I agree that she is not the best lead actress there is, and her acting somewhat relies a lot on the same facial expressions. But she still did a good job for me, it's not like she does not know how to play, or like her acting made it painful to watch or unrealistic; she did a good job, she just does not have that presence that some other actresses have.
And the rest of the cast was very good.
I personally really enjoyed Maya Miki whom I mostly remembered for her role in Attention Please, and who is portraying a very different and funny character. The transformation was unexpected.

I would recommend not to hesitate to watch this dorama. You will spend a good time with this light-hearted comedy and a bit unconventional scenario.

4. More like Hanazono no Himitsu [Rating: 8/10]
A nice little comedy, thin and fluffy, about a junior editor who finds herself playing mom/sister/maid to an all-male family of manga artists. She gets bullied a lot, works around the clock without apparent sleep, always wears a beaten-dog look on her face, and dresses with urban chic like a socialite on her way to a tea-party. Reminds me of a maze: a fun walk through paths leading nowhere.

5. An Enjoyable Series [Rating: 9/10]
I really enjoyed this drama, it was very cute and it's a good show if ur looking for something light-hearted. Very good character development surprisingly in only 11 episodes. My favourite character was Hinata, Kanata Hongo does an exceptional job at bringing out the personality of his character. A good show if you're into light-hearted shoujo manga!

6. Disappointing [Rating: 5/10]
I had great expectation for this series, but it turned out to be so-so.
Shaku Yumiko, of course, is very cute, but her acting was very poor, and annoying at the same time.

The story is very predictable, and very cheesy at times. It's another one of those doramas where you watch, have a good laugh, then forgets in couple of days.

I love it! I don't think the plot is dry..I don't see films made about manga artists often, specially four of them. I get sick of melodramatic girl loves guy, girl can't get guy, i've seen way too many movies about Chefs and OL ladies having midlife crisis UGH..this is wayyy refreshing!

8. Good but not enough to keep [Rating: 8/10]
I personally disagree with the other reviews is that I like Shaku way more than the rest of the cast, that said the story is o.k. but not the best. and as to predictability, of course it is so is every other story in any medium in any part of the world written in the last 50 or so years

9. Great setting, poor execution [Rating: 5/10]
The first episode was very interesting, but very poor execution in the following episodes. Shaku Yumiko was incredibly cute, but her acting is nowhere as good. She is still not fit for a starring role (at least not yet) The series was very cheesy, and draggy in the end.

I'm not sure how to score this drama. It has a rather simple plot - a girl who becomes editor of a popular girl manga series (forced into this role) and she finds out that the author of the series is a group of 4 males who hide their identity mainly because they feel that the consumers would not buy their manga if they knew it was written by a bunch of guys. I have a few gripes about this series. First of all, the main actress is overly submissive so much so that she almost looks pathetic in many of the scenes (in the majority of the drama). I'm not sure why this is - maybe to appeal to the male audience? She's the editor, but yet she cooks, shops, and cleans for them? She always has her head bowed low. I know this is standard for most Japanese dramas, but there's such a thing as overly using it. She's like that 90% of the drama. I can't help but feel that this is used to appeal to the anime/manga fanboys.

The plot for this drama is pretty dry. There's not that much to it other than her going over to Hanazono Yuriko's house and trying to persuade them to have the next chapter ready for publication. Sometimes they'll throw in some obstacles like this particular brother is upset about something trivial, etc. In spite of all this, I'm still continuing this drama. It's good background sound for me when I do other things or to watch right before drifting to bed. It helps me fall asleep.

Cute and quite simple dorama about four guys having to pretend being a female mangaka. I wasn't expecting much from this dorama and I ended loving the four brothers and all the other characters, which were really adorable. Though the main story talks about the four brothers and their relationship with their new editor, there are other side stories which are really brilliant too, and that slowly unfold through the dorama until everything gets finally solved. Minae's character was SO annoying but I imagine she was necessary for the whole plot. Maya Miki was refreshing as always, with her really peculiar and lovely way of acting. Sakai Masato's acting (Wataru) was a bit strange though, with that quirky smile all the time, and he was even scary when looking at the "never-to-be-open" door. I've seen Shaku Miku in other doramas but this is the first time I see her playing the main role, and sincerely, I still don't like her. This is more a family dorama than anything else. I recommend watching it in between darker/sadder doramas.
4. Comments by Sorata [Rating: 7/10]
Such a simple but yet enjoyable dorama. The stars of this dorama are the 4 brothers that make Hanazono Yuriko, Osamu(Ikeda Tetsuhiro) allways cracked me up, especially his fights with Satoshi(Kaname Jun). Tsukyiama(Shaku Yumiko) was a bit overshadowed by the 4 brothers but i still liked her character, she was really cute.
My favorite episode was the one when Tsukyiama had to play Hanazono Yuriko in the sign event, i laugh almost the entire episode.
From the 4 brothers only the 2 i didnLt want to end up with Tsukyiama really loved her, i would prefer her to end up with Osamu or Hinata(Hongo Kanata).
One weird thing about this dorama is how can a 18 year old boy with zero life experience and no knogledge about love write such a famous shoujo manga...thatLs a bit weird.
Anyway itLs a good dorama with very entertaining moments.

I'm giving it an 8 because it was a really good dorama that I really enoyed. The characters were well acted and developed well through the show. I absolutely loved Yamamoto Yusuke's character he was too adorable for words Bless him and his unrequited love he deserved a hug (and I am more than happy to supply XD). I think suprisingly out of the four brothers my favourite was the youngest Hinata. I liked how he grew. When he first met Kayo he wasn't the nicest to her and was very anti-social but by the end she was the one he ran to when he was upset, it was sweet.
Oh and I loved Kayo x Wataru... the whole Kayo x Wataru/ Satoshi thing was enjoyable to watch. Wataru's character was somewhat sweet... but by golly he could be harsh when he wanted!
Overall a great series! If I can buy it in the future I will! Well worth my money.

I really like this drama XD. I didn't exactly read the synopsis of the drama so i didn't exactly know what was going on ....but that made it fun because i had to discover it myself. I didn't mind shaku yumiko. To me,she was ok but my favourite characters were satoshi, wataru and hinata XD. I have never seen Kaname Jun's acting before but his looks reminded me of the dining room leader guy in bambino. The thing which made the drama enjoyable is the whole brotherly concept and the not-so-evil antagonist concept (and....of course Kaname Jun XD) so to sum everything up,i really enjoyed this drama ^^

Himitsu no Hanazono is probably not going to win any awards and will probably be forgotten by pretty much everybody but that's not because its a bad show. The comedy is cleverly written with a cast that seems like they are having alot of fun both on and off the set. It's definately not something new but it's a drama that knows what it is and executes itself accordingly.

Maya Miki and Terajimi Susumu(what a range this guy has) are an absolutely hilarious combo that bring sure laughs whenever they are together. Namie Amuro's track also ended up being my favourite theme song of the season.
8. Comments by Inujun [Rating: 9/10]
The good thing about dramas like this is that you start off with completely low expectations only to have a good surprise. Himitsu no Hanazono was light-hearted, funny and fuzzy all the way, with hilarious interactions between the brothers, a likable female lead and an interesting concept. Although not entirely original, this drama succeeded in making most little things seem equally amusing, plus there is always something new to expect from the 4 brothers. Overall a nice feel-good comedy, perfect for a quick light watch.
9. Comments by Patazilla [Rating: 8/10]
Didn't expect much of it (as so often) but was positivily surprised. It'd be overrated to say that it was very special or anything, it just topped my expectations. The main character (female) wasn't very convincing unto the end (bad actress?), but apart from this, they really had some funny characters (even though they were hard to grasp at some points) and enjoyed the relationships between the brothers. Plot was quite mediocre, nothing special, but good for light entertainment with a bit more depth at some points.

I didnt know what to expect from this dorama... didnt know what Himitsu no Hanazono was about... the plot... the genre... And i gotta say that when i started watching it i was expecting a major crap. Well... its not... it's plain.. a simple yet fun plot and made me laugh at some parts. The casting (as the whole dorama) is OK... Even the twists in the plot r really simple (one of them almost too predictable) but in the end Himitsu no Hanazono is a pretty nice dorama to watch (just dont expect much from it).

Light and fun, really like this kind of drama, it just gives me a smile when i looked at the Quatro Male actor. Masato, tetsuhiro, jun and hongo did their job really well, it feels like they are really a brother. And of course don't forget Shaku Yumiko, even maybe her acting skill wasn't that good, but i really enjoy this drama because of her too. She's really innocent, her beautiful smile really make this enjoyable to watch.
Theme Song: Baby Don't Cry [Amuro Namie]: 10 (Good song)

I had some hopes after reading the synopsis, seemed to have potential to be a fun series. The main plot's good, 4 brothers write a popular manga aimed for girls hiding, behind the name Hanazono. But it really wasn't that funny, mostly draggy & I had a hard time sticking around to the end. The cast's ok but overall it seemed like a low budget production. This drama could've & should've been funnier. I felt a bit like a good idea for a drama got wasted.

A fun and enjoyable series but it start off very weak. But it gets better after each episode especially when Tsukiyamafs character started to get along with the 4 brothers. I had fun watching Maya Miki and Terajima Susumu, they really did bring the laughs here. This is one series you can watch without worrying too much about the plot and itfs ending. Not really a must see but itfs worth a try.
14. Comments by Hemilya [Rating: 9/10]
At first it was kinda boring, but later on I was so touched with the main heroine character and with those four brothers relationship that I was very sad that these series ended so soon. I almost fall in love with the older brother. The only thing that disappointed me was so little romance between Tsukiyama and Wataru.
15. Comments by strawberrynkiwi [Rating: 9/10]
This kinda reminds me of Brother Beat with the whole brother theme. The chemistry was good and the story was interesting. Shaku Yumiko just needs some acting lessons, but I think she is pretty and I love all the clothes you wears. Definitely entertaining to watch. My favorite character was Satoshi and Hinata.
16. Comments by moeru_h [Rating: 8/10]
Usually love stories don't catch my taste but Sakai Masato was here so I had to watch it. His character here is again very different from other roles I've seen him play: he's cold but with slight gentleness. Tsukiyama's character here is likeable too. Compensates for Shaku Yumiko's very plain looks?
17. Comments by liquidlzero [Rating: 8/10]
the only reason why i wanted to see this is for yumiko..i always thought she was hot and i wondered how she would do as a lead...i can say she is really fun to watch when she is being funny not so much when she is serious or pretends to cry but either way this drama was still pretty good.
18. Comments by butterLiLy [Rating: 7/10]
I love this drama...Part of it maybe because of the "manga/mangaka" theme (hehe, I'm a such manga addict and can be pretty bias about it :p). But I think the part that I love most is the family relationship between the brothers. Oh and not to mention, Osamu cracks me up all the time. LOL
19. Comments by x_XJules [Rating: 7/10]
I enjoyed this one. i can't believe how not-incredibly hot the guy she fell in love with was. i mean he's kind of average... anyway, kanata hongo is probably the biggest reason as to why this drama is good. hehe, i wonder if manga writers really have personalities like the characters ^^

I want to be Hongo Kanatafs mum – hefs the jewel (and Maya Miki) in this funny and touching drama about a family secret. The main character, portrayed by Shaku Yumiko stays overall too submissive and pale in comparison to the four eccentric brothers and their crazy editor.

I didn't like it much at first, but by the third episode I was hooked. It's a little cheesy, but not overly so. The story is interesting and I thought the characters were all unique, likable, and well developed. I especially loved Hongo Kanata's character~.

Simple but interesting. The dark secret of kataoka's family is wrapping by the funnny, romantic and commedy's plot.
I dont know why...but i've fallen for the one that plays as Wataru, theres someting with his sad eyes and his gentle smile ^^

Basically it's not a very good drama. Most of the actors are mediocre, although funny, and the story doesn't really have the necessary beats in it to create tension and excitement. But still it's a nice, fun, feel-good drama.

It's a cute, sweet, laid-back comedy that turned out to be better than I'd originally anticipated. The plotline involving the big family secret got a little sketchy at the end, though. I give it a 7.5 rounded up.
