1. French wines [Rating: 3/10]
If you don't drink wine or alcohol, I don't recommend watching this drama. This is the kind of story where you learn a lot on a subject, in this case wine, mostly French wines. It does drive you to drink, though do be careful, it's easy to overindulge in wine while watching it.

The story itself is interesting as well. Kanzaki Shizuku is the son of a famous wine critique, but he doesn't drink wine for an emotional reason. When his father dies, he has compete with Tomine Issei, who is also a wine critique adopted by his father shortly before he passed away. The competition is made up of seven riddles written by the father that all lead to a wine. The one who gets the most right gains the wine collection worth 2 billion yen. Though Shizuku doesn't want the money, he ends up competing anyway in order to learn more about the father he never understood while alive. Issei is not really interested in the money either, he wants to surpass the old man.

Kanzaki Shizuku is played by KAT-TUN's Kamenashi Kazuya. Frankly, I'm not very impressed by his acting skills. I have not been in previous dramas I've seen of him and not in this one as well. Often his characters seem to be in kind of a daze, not being very passionate about anything. The character is a rather brooding one in this drama, but I just don't find myself liking him or rooting for him.

Who does make you want to root for his side is Shinohara Miyabi played by Naka Riisa. She has all the passion that Shizuku lacks and she is the one who gets him to drink in the first place. She is a sommelier-in-training who first tags along with Shizuku in an effort to learn those things from him about wine that he himself learned from his father, though mostly unknowingly. She then becomes a vital person in his life and his female helper. She offers her own knowledge on wine and draws in more people to help Shizuku.

Tomine Issei is the opposition. He is played by Tanabe Seiichi who portrays a calm passion towards wine. He is much older than Shizuku and is a renowned wine critique in his own right. He obviously has more of a chance of winning and he does manage to make the identifications on his own. However, it is sometimes exactly his vast knowledge than hinders him in the game.

Issei has his own female helper, Saionji Maki played by Uchida Yuki. Though her role is more of an emotional helper than Miyabi's. She helps Issei by keeping him focused and cheering him on. Though their relationship is based on her being his girlfriend, the two still feel distant at the start of the drama. They are both adults and have their own baggage.

This drama is worth watching for the knowledge that you can gain from it. The story does have interesting twists, but doesn't draw you in completely. You may find yourself getting bored without having an interest in wine.

2. Kame-chan...? [Rating: 10/10]
I believe it was the most serious drama Kame had. But it had a new feeling. I hadnt seen a drama about uh... wine. I was intrested as soon as I saw Kame's picture, his face like that. :)) Well, thats what you have from me, a JE-addict.

I give it a 10 for everything, but there was something on the sideline that was superbly annoying me. And yes, I know what your thinking, its the girl. Shinohara Miyabi. She was super annoying, with that annoying voice of hers. No offense, but I just dont really like her. I'm sorry to all those Naka Riisa fans, but its just my opinion, no need to take it any firther.

I had read the reviews before watching this dorama and I expected a very little bit from it, but in the end it was quite (and just "quite") entertaining. I'm not a heavy wine fan (although I like to tast white wines). The show is very soapy and full of nonsense and impossible situations, and it just seemed like the two main male characters were having LSD or something like that instead of just drinking or even smelling wine! I mean, seriously? All those perfect images? And hitting the exact wine and year among all those thousands of wines? I wish a wine from La Rioja had been there :p I don't know, I watched the whole thing and it's just a 5 (because I've seen worse doramas so far).

i only gave this a 1 because i literally could not get past the first episode... i kept falling asleep! and when i did reach the end of the first episode, it was like... what? the premise is about drinking wine to find out something about yo' dad?! seriously?! it's such a disappointment, because i love Kame and i was exciting to see him in another drama. i wanna be hopeful that the rest of the episodes weren't as bad but... i'm not gonna be the one to watch them. sorry.

this dorama is overly dramatic, i watched until ep 5 and thats it i give up.
i get an impression that all of japanese are expert on wine because they just drink one sip and ...blast... you can view all of things like a picture of Monalisa or the view of garden in the middle of pond and even give your memory back ?????
the acting are sooo bad, especially Tomine Issei character, i just dont get how can he suffering through the dorama just because drinking wine ???

This was a tough topic to try and relate to a wide audience, and the drama kind of failed at it. But for all it's claminess, with either iver-the-top or lackluster characters, and weirdly handeled concept, it still managed to elicit a few wow moments.

Er... nothing much I can say about this drama. Not really interesting in my point of view. Not that exciting. However, despite the bad ratings, the drama really helps me give a deep insight on how wine tasting is like~~

Plodded on to the last bitter drop of wine i mean episode of this drama because...honestly, i have no clue why i did that cause i don't even drink wine. I found the wine trivia fascinating though.

kame was really hot, but this show definitely wasn't that great overall. The wine aspect was really interesting, but the whole competition between the two characters kinda felt lacking.
8. Comments by aoiharu [Rating: 6/10]
this could be one of the lowest rating i'd give to a dorama... if not for kame i wouldn't bother.
the other guy just pisses me off, his actions and his face alone makes me crinch

I just couldn't get into it. I learned a few things about wine but that's about it. Tanabe Seiichi was unbearable to watch. I felt no camaraderie with the cast.

I like the topic, but Kame's acting in this series somehow seems really stoned (even though I like him I have to say this). Annoying main female character.
11. Comments by williu [Rating: 5/10]
Very silly, though the concept itself feels pretty original and fresh. It could have been so much better with just a tad of realism.

learn about wines - good weaving of subplots into the main storyline, which is quite mysterious.

I couldn't think that a drama regarding wine could be so interesting. Kazuya is perfect as ever.
