Summing it up: a decent girl who thinks she's a monster, and three REAL monsters (her mom, her lil' sis and a mental classmate) who make her life hell day in and day out (plus two more semi-monsters - her dad and her love interest - who witness all that and simply do NOTHING to stop it). After 4 episodes I just couldn't bear it anymore to see that poor girl crushed and hurt and bullied again and again, so I dropped it (and unless someone tells me that later on some Buffy / Van Helsing / Punisher kind of character suddenly appears and gives all those afore-mentioned monsters a well-deserved, slow, painful, gruesome death...well, unless that happens, I seriously doubt I'll ever consider giving this title another chance, LOL). One of the worst doramas I've ever seen, seriously. Instant top5 of the WCE (Worst Crap Ever). |
2. | Comments by Cerebus [Rating: 8/10] A modern fairy tale, and like all good fairy tales it's rich in allegory, in this case exploring the problems of adolescent shyness, low self-esteem, self-acceptance and also the emotional roller-coaster of first love. The young Kanno Miho is simply brilliant playing the rather pitiful lead. She is able generate real empathy and acts everyone else off the screen. Although it didn't help that most of the supporting characters were somewhat under written. You also got the feeling that most of their issues could be solved by simply talking to each other a little more. But this is Kanno Miho's show, and worth watching for her performance alone. |
3. | Comments by michelle [Rating: 9/10] -->I've completed up 'till the 5th disc in just one day. Yokatta! This drama is good, 'though somehow, some people [like my mother] feel that it's not realistic, but hey, I like this drama. Miho Kanno can really portrayed Rika well. It is so heartbreaking to see Rika seeing her own reflection on mirror...sigh..."sam thong"...Anyway, looking forward to complete it tomorrow... ^_^
-->Okay, completed it already. The ending is okay. If only they extend it more by showing Rika leaving to Boston to look for Noboru. This scene might not be necessary but if only they shown it... hmmm

4. | Comments by eternalblue81 [Rating: 3/10] I enjoyed this drama up until towards the end, despite some misgivings about some characters and the way they acted towards the heroine, as well as neglect of development with some supporting characters and some wooden acting. The ending, however, left an extremeley sour taste in my mouth. It made no sense to me for the characters I'd been watching all this time to do/say what they did. Throughout the entirety of this drama I hated just about every character at some point or another, but I didn't expect the ending would leave me hating the heroine I'd been rooting for all throughout. |
5. | Comments by EstherM [Rating: 6/10] What do you do if your mother doesnLt love you? How do you react if a parent is horribly cruel? Finally an interesting topic for a drama, or so I thought. Unfortunately the motherLs behaviour is not linked to actual psychological troubles, but to a fairytale. So the real family problems are never properly dealt with (depression, bi-polar personality etc) but itLs worth watching once. It's more a seven but the scriptwriters used 3 traffic accidents as deus ex machina - a bit too much for my taste. |
6. | Comments by kaonashi [Rating: 8/10] Mostly this drama's about accepting yourself for who you are & that everybody has some sadness in the past to overcome. It's a touching & heartwarming story that I suppose everyone can relate to but at the same time it teaches a harsh lesson, that the main responsibililty to become a good & happy person lies on the children regardless how cruel the parents sometimes are.
The drama's great in many aspects but I don't think the ending was satisfying enough. 8+ |
7. | Comments by takuan [Rating: 5/10] This was horrifically cliched and overly dramatic with it's attempts to be tear-jerking. That said, I actually quite enjoyed watching it. Their heavy handed attempts to sway your emotions got to me. And it's almost impressive how the actresses can get you to buy into their fear/psychosis despite the unconvincing plastic iguana masks/costumes. So if you enjoy over the top dramatics (sort of like most kdrama is) then this might be for you. |
8. | Comments by jaycee [Rating: 9/10] i dunno why but... being the 'monster' in her family and her mother who does even care for her really makes the entire story something.... kanno miho played the iguanna's daughter... although it makes no sense on how the father was able to marry an iguanna... but... i totaly love the storyline of the mother and daughter relationship.... *^^* a must watch |
9. | Comments by tetsukei [Rating: 7/10] Surprisingly, this drama kept me watching despite its slow pace. The central theme : Who's the iguana? It conveys an important message : You might be what others think you are, but you must accept what you are to step out of depression. Good performance by the young actresses, but not the young actors :(

10. | Comments by Sleepingstar [Rating: 7/10] Fairytale type of story. I'm sure there is people who think story is just too stupid and can't stand it, but I hadn't too much problems with it. Still It's not like this dorama was really great, but I thought it was pretty good and it was also nice to see Kanno Mihos earlier work :). Other cast wasn't too bad either. |
11. | Comments by loveaomori [Rating: 3/10] Nice to watch this dorama, it reminds you that tere are very bad ones and that you should not watch all of them! So poor story, and the fact that she is an iguana doesn't mean anything. Never watch a so meaningless drama in my life. Unique good point is that he dad is kakkoii . |
12. | Comments by aramia [Rating: 7/10] This is the most ridiculous and unbelievable storyline I've ever watched. Watched for kanno miho and i am impressed with her acting even though she was so much younger than. The whole iguana thing is just off. But that aside, not bad storyline. |
13. | Comments by youhei_mito [Rating: 8/10] touching fairytale-like drama about an iguana girl. :) one of the first dramas i actually watched on tv and actually went out to buy for my collection. it is quite outdated (dumb attempt at portraying a huge iguana), but i liked the story. ;) |
14. | Comments by gaijinmark [Rating: 6/10] Maybe the strangest drama I've ever seen. Totally unbelievable storyline, but I'm giving it a 6 based on 3 great performances by Miho Kanno, Rena Komine, and Hitomi Sato. Oh yeah, remember to look both ways before crossing the street! |
15. | Comments by yanie_chan [Rating: 5/10] I don't really like this drama...the atmosphere is just so weird and 'dark'...and it's just very disgusting whenever the iguana's face showed up >_< The story isn't that good either!

16. | Comments by eiko [Rating: 5/10] Its really sad and touching, however, i would of course recommand buying Beautiful Life than this (For those who loves love story, if you like sort of family stories, this is for you!!) |
17. | Comments by mizuno_takako [Rating: 5/10] veri sad ending as the mother dies....but i dun find why they making a big fuss juz for a teenage girl...i mean oni that gal n her mother see her as a iguana....overreacting ?? |
18. | Comments by Lauralye76 [Rating: 9/10] Something like a fairy tale...a bit far-fetched to happen in real life...but its got a nice story line. Its touching as well..teared while I was watching the show. |
19. | Comments by Ikuko [Rating: 8/10] The plot is very intresting and it could be an excellent drama but I thought th story is very long... but very good drama! |
20. | Comments by Hee Hee Hee [Rating: 8/10] i liked tis show..v touching.....the girl so pitiful...keep bulllied n aso canot do anyting...so sad.....bt v nice story! |
21. | Comments by kamikaze54 [Rating: 3/10] This is a manga that should never have been made into a drama. Storyline is too unrealistic and incomprehensible. |
22. | Comments by oldasianguy [Rating: 10/10] Great original material!!!! Kanno Miho was brilliant!!!Wish there were more original shows like this one is...... |
23. | Comments by yolande [Rating: 7/10] based on a manga, this dorama has a fairy-tale feel. fabulous acting from the actors. very touching. |
