1. Surprisingly good [Rating: 8/10]
Too many Japanese comedies fall prey to formula: offering an interesting premise, a familiar delivery, and ba by-the-numbers conclusion. Superficially, UNUBORE DEKA falls into the same pattern - and it's all the more surprising that it's so appealing and funny in spite of itself.

A handsome detective (Tomoya Nagase) wins the hearts of a succession of lovely women, with a catch: in each case, the object of his affection is guilty of some crime or another, whether it's murder, fraud, burglary, or worse. As a result, he wins the admiration of colleagues for his astonishing success at nabbing villains (while losing potential girlfriends in the process). Nagase (MY BOSS MY HERO, TIGER AND DRAGON) has a gift for flamboyant reaction shots, and other actors (Yoshiyoshi Arakawa, Mika Nakashima) put in winning supporting performances that are almost as funny.

Does this get repetitive? Admittedly, yes, but it's hard to resist a good joke, and the script mixes things up to freshen old gags. Like ep2, where Nagase inadvertently downs a sleeping drug, and juggles three tasks - nabbing the femme fatale, proposing marriage to her, and snoring in between breaks in dialog. I only wish the series could have been longer.

2. Not quite IWPG/Tiger & Dragon, but still KudoK [Rating: 8/10]
Given the ridiculousness and seemingly one-dimensional nature of the synopsis, there is no wonder why this drama may be dismissed on paper as another silly jdrama filled with cliche after cliche. That is, however, until you realize Kudo Kankuro is both director and writer for the series. Fans of Kankuro's previous work will no doubt recognize many faces, almost as if they never left our screens, from titles like Tiger & Dragon and IWPG. Nagase is his usual comic best, with help from Ikuta Toma and Mika Nakashima, whom both surprised me with their valuable contributions. But really, Nishida Toshiyuki is the scene stealer, constantly upping Nagase, especially in the episodes that fall flat. Improving on their screen-time together in Tiger and Dragon, Nagase and Nishida's onscreen relationship really makes this drama for me. It is a joy to watch. While not quite as consistently funny as the likes of Tiger and Dragon, or as emotionally gripping as IWPG or Cats Eye, Unubore still proves why Kudo Kankuro is loved by audiences worldwide.

3. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............ [Rating: 6/10]
I'm not really sure about this one it was pretty funny throughout but I think that the fact the end went exactly like I predicted almost word for word drags the whole show down hence the slightly above average rating. Even the excellent cast especially the guests such as the wonderful Yu Aoi, Erica Toda and Koyuki can't keep the formula from dragging it down. Would have made a much better movie or shorter series, if they make a second season I hope they set it 5 or 10 years later when Rie is out of prison because I really like her interactions with Unubore-san.

This one case per episode drama about a detective who canft get married and falls in love with murder suspects is in fact pure Kudo Kankuro fan service, actors from previous Kankuro dramas star or make a guest appearance, which is great fun. But if you are not familiar with his work, it might not be the greatest drama to start with, and one reason is the variable quality. Some episodes are grand, I roared with laughter during episodes 3, 7 and 11 and I really fell asleep during episodes 4 and 5. On the plus side, it started formulatic but slowly added variations and twists to the same theme. Particular highlights: the dances and the Unubore 5 combo, Unuborefs loser bar friends, always great for comic relief.

Unubore, Unbore, Unubore... DEKA dadadannnn! Is there ever a Kudo Kankura drama not worth watching these days? The man has his style and comedic dramas down pat, but somehow he manages to do something new with each and every series I'd seen. He is probably the only screenwriter in the world for whose work I purposefully seek out. Nagase Tomoya, of course, has fine tuned his character acting over the years, most notably in other Kudo Kankuro dramas, and delivers a flawless performance. Of course, most of the cast are the usual suspects and I enjoyed each and every one of them! Definitely an awesome drama!

I'm not sure about this dorama, I mean, it was somehow boring but after having finished it, I just miss Detective Unubore. It made me smile sometimes, but the truth is that each episode is the same as the other ones with slight differences. It also has a great cast but I was expecting something more; more strength, maybe. Loved the 'Hey hey hey' thing, and it was great to see Arakawa Yoshiyoshi and Ikuta Toma there. I just love Nagase Tomoya's acting, hope he gets other kind of roles too.

Someone said Tomoya Nagase looked like Ken Watanabe in one of his suits. I can seen the resemblance. Anyways, this series was repetitive. It got a bit tedious to see Unubore offer a marriage certificate and crying at the end of every episode. Despite that, this show is incredibly funny (but not for everyone, obviously). Unubore 5 is definitely the highlight of this series. Next would be Unubored himself and his dad. Their narcissism is so awesome.

I'm currently watching, but I'll definitely buy this, because it's so f**king hilarious and all the actors fantastic!!
There are some series in the past which tried to make jokes about theirselves but Unubore Deka stands clearly above all in this.
And it grows bigger and better after every episode although after episode 2 I feared the fact it could be a bit lax and boring when Unubore alwys offers a ring for marriage in the end.

It's light-hearted and a fun drama. I think the best part of the series was seeing the many various popular actress cameos. One of my favorite episodes was the one with Koyuki.

It's not very detective-centric if you're looking for a drama like Detective Conan or Jikou Keisatsu. It's more of an offbeat romantic comedy and it's pretty enjoyable although the proposal scenes get a little repetitive.

Funny series and my wife was laughing out loud so many times! She's Japanese so she doesn't need the subs but I do, so alot of the humor is lost but I still found it really funny! I would't be surprised to see a season 2!

it was very funny! the dancing scenes were hilarious! I like how the episode were similar with each other, but had also some slight changes. however i think that nagase tomoya overacts a little, but is some of his charm.

8.5 A must-see for KudoKan fans. Some episodes were a lot better than others but the final episode just made up for everything. I loved all the charming characters and will definitely miss seeing them.

Nagase Tomoya and Ikuta Toma was hilarious. I laughed so much with each episode. Also loved the Unubore 5 camaraderie and how they helped in the end...and all that dancing lol

Very unusual and funny dorama which takes itself not too seriously. You'll also get your portion of Nagase Tomoya-like humor. Gets a bit weaker up to the end, otherwise 9p

Tomoya is the only thing that prevents me from giving this drama a 2. This man, can make even the worst piece of junk seem funny. *Bows to his awesomness*

The story is quite weird, but Nagase makes up for it with his hilarious actions and faces. It cannot get more than 6 from me, tho...
