On the other hand, I was surprised at the somewhat straight-forward and optimistic look at depression. Maybe Japan handles the condition differently than we do in North America, but as a sufferer of depression and having a mother afflicted with it, I can tell you that finding help is never that easy and it is something one might never come from. Considering the severity of her depression I would've expected the cause to be more complex, or for her to have depression coupled with other personality disorders. Ah, but leave it to Japan to over-simplify things, as usual. All around this had a great cast with solid writing, though it was underwritten, and good direction. I'm glad I got to see this one through to the end! |
| 2. | Comments by sasukekun6 [Rating: 8/10] Extremely unrealistic at times, but still a lot of fun. I normally don't like Ninomiya's acting, but I think he did a pretty good job in this. It was also my first experience with Asano Atsuko and I enjoyed her acting. I want to say that the "symptoms" of depression don't seem realistic, moreso a different disorder, though perhaps I'm wrong because I don't have much personal experience with depression of a strong magnitude that isn't already being treated.
Anyway, I really like the construction workers in this show. They were all really lovable and remind me of some of the people I've met that have worked construction here in Japan. |

One day i typed the word "freeter" on google search, and found this drama listed. I never heard of this drama before, and by chance and by luck I found it by accident. And I'm really fortunate and glad that I did. I read the brief synopsis, and I was intrigued. This is one of the best drama I have seen. I could feel and relate to Seiji's family. Seiji's dad reminds me of my dad, Seiji reminds me of myself. The drama just felt very real and for that I really enjoyed and loved it. |

Ninomiya Kazunari's acting was superb; i loved the way he slowly changes and somehow matures because of his mother's depression. There are many plots inside this dorama, some of them not being really important but necessary to relax the tension of Seiji's problems. I really like Takenaka Naoto and although at first I hated him as a father in this dorama, finally I got to understand him. Must see. |
| 5. | Comments by Ezalor [Rating: 8/10] Well-crafted dorama without much unnecessary plot. It depicts the "under the radar" problems of the japanese society very well, like the social pressure from the neighbourhood on housewives, the shame of a family with an unemployed son or the pre-decision on the career of elementary school kids. But the plot became very predictable too often. Especially the father and son are very good acted. |
| 6. | Comments by gaijinmark [Rating: 8/10] Good drama. My biggest complaint is with the director's decision to turn Asano Atsuko into a nodding semi-coherent robot. She's a much better actress than that and given the chance I think she could have given a much more realisitic portrayal of someone suffering from mental illness.
All the other actors did a good job, especially Takenaka Naoto as the father. |
| 7. | Comments by Oba-chan [Rating: 8/10] I give the first episode 10 point, perfect, i cried at the end of the show. But everything goes down at the second episode. It's pretty, but somehow i fell it down. Maybe we need more love story between Nino and karina. Nino is still a great actor, no doubt. When he argued with his father, it feel so real.

| 8. | Comments by Signo [Rating: 10/10] This drama shows unvarnished and honestly social problems in reffering to the spirit of our time in modern society. Futhermore it's about the things that constitute human being, no matter who he is and what he does. One of the best drama i ever saw! Note: Don't miss the special episode. |
| 9. | Comments by oonqy [Rating: 10/10] Another great family drama with good storyplot. Needless to say, Nino is one of the good actor. his dramas till date has never failed me with his acting skills. Love the strong family morale, employment issues.. is a very realistic drama. I do feel motivated from watching this :D |
| 10. | Comments by Spider [Rating: 8/10] Well acted with a strong lead story and very good sub plots. Good story about finding yourself and maturing and growing up, as well as wanting approval from your father, and just oridinary family life and all that goes with it. Really liked this drama! |
| 11. | Comments by russia [Rating: 7/10] alright drama. refreshing storyline, since it has other components like mental illness. however, what are the chances of a cute girl at a construction company who is single and available? of course, when watching dramas, please suspend reality checks. |
| 12. | Comments by cutesawada [Rating: 8/10] Still need to finish the last few episodes.... but I really liked it's pace and the kimitte song. And of course it's pretty motivating..... some of the subplots were not to my taste but overall it's pretty good and gets you thinking |
| 13. | Comments by Jeanxi [Rating: 6/10] I never finished the series, but it seems like a decent story. I think I liked the first episode, but I didn't really like it enough to warrant watching the series until the end. |
| 14. | Comments by Jhvx [Rating: 8/10] Too slow dorama, cast great with Karina. Not one of the best but worth it if you like Ninomiya or Karina, I did enjoy it although there are way better doramas |
| 15. | Comments by dokaben [Rating: 6/10] Intriguing start, but then it became very generic. No real chemistry between the leads or uncertainty about where the plot was heading. Bland. |
| 16. | Comments by chokakoi [Rating: 9/10] not bad. I like how it is very down to earth and realistic drama. not dramatic or over the top at all |
| 17. | Comments by bobspelledbqwrds [Rating: 9/10] This drama was probably made for all the freeters in Japan right now. Good story. Good lesson. |
| 18. | Comments by dreamer10231 [Rating: 8/10] nice...it's about real life...something to remind how children should be to their parents... |
