I have been getting really tired of the Fuji Monday 9 drama for awhile now, in part because I feel it should be renamed the Fuji Monday Arashi drama, and also because they seem to have abandoned the idea of ever making a more serious drama ever again. I fully expect this time slot to feature trendy dramas but I still feel serious can be done in a trendy way. The most recent drama in this slot that I liked was "Nagareboshi", and on the other hand, the drama that most epitomizes what I am growing to hate would definitely be "Lucky Seven." With that in mind it should be obvious on what side of that equation I thought this would fall, but the results were quite surprising.
This is definitely not my style, but it does have a lot of style. It's lighthearted and silly, but it comes together very well and just feels like a lot of fun. The music is particularly different and adds a lot to the mood. I don't usually like dramas that feel episodic, but it works well here. The last two episodes weren't very good and seemed like just another random mystery not worthy of being an ending, and the fact that it was dragged out for two episodes heightened this complaint, but the surprise ending was pretty much awesome to me. I think the weakest point of this series is that it's built on a rather simple and somewhat bizarre gimmick as its premise, locked rooms, it allows it to be episodic, but also demands the solutions to be well written. Most of these mysteries don't succeed that well. They come across as silly and overly convoluted. You won't feel bad when you couldn't guess things like that a man kills someone in a rage and then covers it up by shooting golf balls with a machine through random holes that are just so conveniently in a wall?!
While this wasn't an amazing drama for me, it's still the best Fuji has had to offer for this time slot in a very long time. |

So-so episodic dorama around many different locked rooms misteries, which were quite easy to solve from my point of view. Ohno Satoshi played a quite bizarre character, which is fine, but he was way too robotic (it reminded me to the guy in "Zettai Kareshi"), and you don't really get to know his motivations. I'm also getting tired of Toda Erika; she was supperb in "SPEC" but she's a bit annoying in this one. The good surprise was Sato Koichi: at first I just didn't like him, but after some episodes I found his character very, very funny and really balanced. I would recommend this dorama if you're a Satoshi/Erika fan or if you have nothing else to see. |

Great soundtrack by Ken Arai. Good chemistry between the trio. Some cases are actually quite boring (manga and the stage play episodes) but I pretty much enjoyed the whole series. A season 2 or SP would be nice since the ending is kinda open-ended imho. |

Kind of so-so. It was a bit slow paced at times though I really enjoyed the casting and the actors' performances. I quite like Enemoto just being...well Enemoto, lol. It was a really interesting role for Ohno. |
