Synopsis
"Kodoku no Gourmet" was originally serialized in Fusosha's "Gekkan SPA!" between 1994 and 1996. It was resumed in 2008 and has been irregularly serialized since then.

The story follows a man named Inogashira Goro, who privately runs an imported dry goods business. In his spare time between work, he visits various shops and tastes their cuisine. One of the highlights of the manga is that the shops that appear in it are all real shops geared towards a general public. The drama will preserve the spirit of the manga, in which the solitary protagonist speaks very little and the focus is on his character as he eats various dishes.

From the first episode I loved this dorama. Despite the fact that at the beginnig I didn't have much expectatives about it, I wanted to try especially for review my Japanese. My surprise was when watching the 1st chapter I became so hungry!!, remembering all the delicious dishes that I had eaten in my visits to Japan. After that moment, I wanted to watch all the dishes that appeared in the show and wishing that one day I have the chance to taste again or for the first time many of them.

Great dorama for all the food lovers out there! I do not consider myself a great food lover, but the pace and music of this dorama, and the superb Matsushige Yutaka as Inogashira Goro, made me feel a bit hungry and so curious about so many varieties of Japanese food! I'm not sure if I'll watch absolutely all seasons but I'll give the second one a chance for sure. And I'll buy the manga as a present for my food-lover friends!!

I love this show - especially since I learned about it in while eating in a small Peruvian restaurant in Tokyo. The owner told me that he had appeared in the manga and he was hoping to be featured in the TV show. I have now seen the first 5 seasons and I am ready for season 6. It's great fun to discover new restaurants with the Gurume (gourmet) but you need to be prepared for a certain repetitiveness.

Though this series has no central plot, Matsushige's performance is not to be missed. His expressions as Goro are an absolute delight! I've never seen anyone portray a love of food as well as this. More importantly, the food porn! Oh my gosh! A word of warning: never watch this series while hungry.

There's really no plot to this. At least none that I could figure out, just Matsushige going from place to place eating. The dishes all looked great and it was nice to see Matsushige cast as something besides his usual thug/yakuza role.
