A past he wants to take back. A past that will never go away. Twenty-seven years ago Keiichi Kashiwagi lost his father to suicide after the rich and powerful Esei Group took over the family ranch, and Keiichi's beloved Akiko married into the Esei family. Keiichi then swore he would have his revenge. Now, Keiichi is head of his own corporation and running for office in the same electorate as Tatsuya Esei, the man who took Akiko from him long ago. Having fallen on hard times, Tatsuya is trying to marry his daughter Matsue into another rich corporate family, but Akiko remembers her own loveless marriage with remorse and refuses to have her daughter share the same fate. In the middle of this, Keiichi's past rears its ugly head, leading to murder and blackmail. Betrayal and revenge are tempered with the tenderness of love in this gripping suspense. | | YTVJapan |

| | 1. | Intricate but meandering [Rating: 3/10] The plot is darkly complex enough to hook you after viewing the first few episodes. Unfortunately, it seems to bog down and drag along laboriously. Worst of all, none of the characters are sympathetic or engaging. By the end, I was wanting a hole to open up and swallow them all to end this misery. | | Reviewed by ichiban_noodles on 9 July 2003 |

| | 1. | Comments by jo [Rating: 7/10] Slow start, story picks up in the middle. Good twist, not for everyone. A young man who has lost everything vowed to take a revenge against a rich man who took away the love of his life and his dreams. Lots of mystery, that will unravel in every episode, pretty good but again not for everyone. Slow & dark drama, B+ . Thumbs up. | | 2. | Comments by rintaro [Rating: 10/10] thrilling and compelling. i couldn't wait for each new episode. had more twists and turns than a bowl of udon. | | 3. | Comments by MixxDreamer [Rating: 7/10] Good story and a sad ending! yet there are so many twist and mysteries.. its a bit draggy! but it gets interesting in the middle, its a dark and messed up story not for everyone drama... i give this a B+ though. | | 4. | Comments by Siamman [Rating: 10/10] Very Sad ending to a sad and messed up drama. Just the way it should be. | | 5. | Comments by Hanada Tattsu [Rating: 10/10] This show ruled. The music and acting was great, though a little unclear. | | 6. | Comments by deadlydandelion [Rating: 9/10] :) I got really addicted to this drama, and despite the fact that the farther it went, the wierder it got, I loved Stairway to Heaven to the end. I'd highly recommend this drama to all those that like DRAMA. :) | | 7. | Comments by MeowMeow [Rating: 8/10] it was very interesting | | 8. | Comments by sadacori [Rating: 9/10] Excellent drama about how an innocent boy becomes a cold and calculating man. Sato Koichi does a fantastic job in the starring role and the rest of the cast are equally as good. While the plot seems a little slow at first, it gets engaging as you go along. Highly recommended. |
