The main character of this true-to-life drama is Kanta Date. Kanta is a pure-hearted paper delivery man who has a passion for life. He lives along the coast in Shonan at a newspaper shop with his stern father, and always concerned mother. Kanta, along with his family and unique group of friends deliver the paper to subscribers every day of the week.
One day out of the blue, Masashi Shindo, a man whom Kanta really looks up to, suddenly disappears. Masashi was in the Japanese national baseball tournament when he was in high school, and used to play catch with Kanta, who didn't have many friends when growing up. Although Masashi didn't make it to the big leagues, he really helped save Kanta from living a life of solitude as a young boy. Even with all that Masashi did for Kanta, it still wasn't enough to help Kanta from falling in love with Masashi's wife Ayumi.
After Masashi disappears in an attempt to escape his huge debts, Kanta does everything in his power to provide for Ayumi and her four children--all while trying to keep his feelings for Ayumi a secret... |
