Synopsis
Kimura is the captain and star player of an ice hockey team, who is greatly respected by his teammates. For him, hockey is serious business that fully occupies his mind, while he treats romance as if it were a game.

Yuko is a typical businesswoman, and is waiting for her boyfriend to return from studying architecture abroad. At this point in time however, he shows no sign of coming back. One day, Yuko's friends who are determined to find her a new boyfriend, invite her to watch an ice hockey game. There she sees Kimura for the first time.

After the game, Yuko and her friends join the players for a party celebrating their victory. Yuko, however, is not so excited to be there. When she leaves the party, she bumps into Kimura, who was slightly injured from a fight. They exchange e-mail addresses and part.

The sparks of mutual attraction are ignited in a second encounter between Yuko and Kimura, arranged with the help of her friends shortly after a party.

Sato has come as a replacement for the team's coach who has been hospitalized. Kimura has a lot of respect for the hospitalized coach. Unfortunately though, he can't stand Sato's way of doing things. Bringing with him a lot of coaching experience from overseas, Sato criticizes the former coach's strategies. Whenever Kimura and Sato see each other, they get into a quarrel—consequently influencing Kimura's behavior during games.

Seeing that his game ended in a brawl, Yuko visits Kimura to comfort him. But he tells her that she is being too friendly with him.

Yuko is hurt, Kimura is irritated, and his teammate Sakaguchi can't stand seeing Kimura like this...

1. Japanese Drama "Pride" A Review [Rating: 9/10]
Pride is about a semi-pro hockey team and itfs star player. The first episode sets the stage for the rest of this 11 episode Japanese drama/dorama. The show starts with a great opening theme gI Was Born To Love Youh by Queen in arena rock style that is very well suited to a sports themed drama many other Queen songs are played throughout the series including "Bohemian Rhapsody", " We Will Rock You", "We Are the Champions", " Radio Ga-Ga", "Too Much Love Will Kill You" and "Let Me Live".

The star center Halu pronounced Haru is portrayed by Takuya Kimura a very popular Japanese drama star and member of the group SMAP. In the first episode, we are introduced to Halufs coach Anzai, played by Saburo Tokito, who is in the hospital dying, Anzai has always been Halufs idol and his first coach. Halu has tried to live up to his coachfs hockey career achievements and as we find out in later episodes that he has actually surpassed them. The coach has advised Halu that an iceman should not fall in love while playing hockey because a man who is in love cannot devote everything that is necessary to the game, he canft play fearlessly if he has a wife and child to support. The coach loves Halu, so much so that instead of spending his last hours with his wife and son, he leaves the hospital with Halu and goalkeeper Hotta portrayed nicely by Kenji Sakaguchi, to train Halu one last time. Halu for his part loves and idolizes the coach and gives his own money to the coachfs wife advising her to tell the coach that it came from the team.

After a winning game the entire team is in a bar their team hangout, Halu, Hotta and Ikegami protrayed by Ichikawa Somegoro, talk about their philosophy of dating, and Halu as his coach advised states that for icemen love must be kept a game. They spot three girls sitting at the bar and a bet is raised to see if Halu can truly keep it just a game. Halu refuses until he sees the Aki Murase, played by Yuko Takeuchi and states gShe looks like a woman from the last centuryh a repeated theme through the series. Old fashioned values are important to Halu we find out why as the series progresses. Halu stages a fight to get Akifs attention and email address.

Aki has waited for two years for a boyfriend she hasnft heard from on the strength of a promise that she made. Halu considers her perfect for a game of love so that neither will get too serious and proposes a contract that if Akifs boyfriend reappears then gGame Overh he will walk away. The theme of waiting is repeated throughout the series in a number of different ways. Halu is waiting for a relationship after hockey, Aki for her boyfriend, the coachfs wife was to wait for a previous lover who is now back as the new coach Yuichiro Hyodo but she tells Halu she didnft have the strength to wait for Hyodo and then married Anzai. Hydo is waiting for Halu to take his game to the next level.

Ifve seen Takuya Kimura in a Beautiful Life as a hairdresser, Love Generation as an ad man, Hero as a prosecutor, Good Luck as a pilot, his characterfs change jobs but his personality remains the same for all of these dramafs, he stars as a strong loner willing to sacrifice for his co-workers and do anything for the woman he loves.

I watched the Fan-subbed version by J-TV. They did a beautiful job on the widescreen Region 2 DVD release converting to a hard subbed XviD file that looks beautiful on my 46h HDTV. Audio is dolby prologic and sounds wonderful. The subs are easy to read and quite good, sometimes extra Japanese cultural information is included in subtitle format across the top of the screen. A great release from in my opinion the best quality fan-sub release group.

I just posted this to my blog with working links http://burndvdburn.blogspot.com/

2. I hate this kind of drama [Rating: ?/10]
I don't know what to say, this drama had great characters, plot and music, but the ending was complete and utter shit. SPOILERS>>

Aki went back to her boyfriend and he ended up being a complete wanker, after leaving Haru on the bridge, as soon as this happened the series went down the toilet, there was no tension or emotion in the ending, Haru left for the NHL then comes back and takes Aki back, it's like he has to be sorry for leaving when she is the one that left him to go back to a boyfriend that was already involved and beat her to make up for him being baka. I really liked this series until then, but the ending is just complete shit.

Yes, this is a drama but lets keep it somewhat real, You end up getting involved with a girl who you end up falling for, and after everything you go through she shafts you for some bloke she not seen in two years, the way she acts to Haru is so cold on that bridge scene, game or not it's obvious he cares for her, and she does him over like that, im sorry words can't really express how much the ending of this series pissed me off. I like Takuya Kimaru dramas, but you'd have to be a hardcore and somewhat blind fan to give this show 10/10 or even 9/10. Wake up the ending is the most dissapointing ending i've ever seen in a j-drama.

Basic premise:

Haru meets Aki who was left by her boyfriend 2 years ago and every sunday she waits for him to return on the bridge they departed on, Haru and Aki meet at an after match gathering, moving a long her boyfriend comes back, she gets all emotional and when she is waiting on the bridge after speaking to her boyfriend after he finally comes back (after she told him she wouldnt go) Haru meets her on the bridge at the same time, she them sees her boyfriend then totally blanks Haru and goes running and crying towards him, and Haru feels like crap, after Aki's boyfriend finally tells her he has a new woman and a kid she decideds she wants to go back to Haru, and there the story takes a stupid change, I can't go on im so dissapointed in how it ended, yeh they get back together, it's kind of how orange days ended, she goes off with some other bloke then comes back and acts like nothing happened and everyone lives happily ever after, go watch Good Luck instead, now that has everything, good cast, characters, plot, music and decent ending (im not one for "it must be a happy ending" but I dont want to feel cheated after everything like this series left me.

Reading all these 9/10 10/10 reviews it makes me wonder if they actually watched the whole series before reviewing, even the most hardcore Takuya fan must admit the ending is so weak and cheap. I hope his next drama is of better quality along the lines of Good Luck, even Long Vacation is better than this.

music 10/10 story 8/10 characters 6/10 ending 2/10

bad, bad ending, almost sorry I watched it.

3. Don't know what all the fuss was about [Rating: 6/10]
I was skeptical before watching this drama, and after watching it, I can see why. I was already a bit disappointed with "Good Luck", and was hoping this drama would be different, but it wasn't; same acting, and almost the same story base.
I am curious to know if Kimuya himself feels that his style of acting got him to the top of the rating scale, so he decided to stick to that style, or it was the executives/managers who realized it, and made him do dramas of the same style, or even maybe perhaps the drama is written to cater to his acting style.
In just about every drama since Love Generation, Kimuya has played a guy who is cool, and doesn't really show he cares for the girl, until the last minute. He has that trademark smirk, and that "sometimes care, and sometimes doesn't" look.
I liked the music though; it suited the Hockey theme quite nicely, and the end and beginning segments showing the credits were really creative.
The plot felt like a daytime soap opera; way too melodramatic. It's way too predictable, dry, and I didn't care about any of the side characters. Maybe I am burnt out from too many of his previous dramas. Maybe if this was my first Kimuya drama, I would be praising it to no end, which I did with Hero and Beautiful Life.

4. Excellent Drama [Rating: 9/10]
This drama is about an athlete. But if you stop there, you would be lying to yourself and to all the ignorant people out there who have yet to be enlightened by this drama.

Pride is perhaps the best love story I have ever seen. The relationship is like a flower. We see it in the form of a bud, and then slowly, and effectively, it begins to blossom. Nothing is rushed in this drama. Everything moves according to time, which is what makes the love story so precious.

This is also the first drama I saw where the actors are eye-candy for all the FEMALE viewers! YAY!

Kimura Takuya was brilliant. I had some initial reservations because he seemd more popular than gifted. But after watching him here, I can truly admit that he has a lot of talent. His subtle facial expressions are grand. Takeuchi Yuko is very sweet and her slow speech/drawl in this drama is effective. Kawaii!

I found the ending only slightly disappointing. I didn't like the fact that Aki was made to wait yet again for a man, but no worries. It takes nothing away from the love story as a whole.

The plot revolving around Halu and his insecurities is perhaps what makes this drama a work of art. To see him struggle with himself emotionally is simply marvelous. Well done!

5. Romance at its best. [Rating: 10/10]
So we find that often the best shows around are those with simple themes but yet managed to convey its message to the viewers and leave a deep impression. Pride reminds me of those great romance drama in the past that dominate the discussion for the year, like Beautiful Life, Summer Snow, Long Vacation.

Kimutaku plays a ice hockey team captain (Halu Satonaka) this time (iceman), a arrogant and closed individual who meets the beautiful and innocent Aki Murase (played by Takeuchi Yuko). Barring the subplot (good ones tho), the show revolves around their "love game" as Halu plays the role of a substitute boyfriend as Aki awaits the return of her boyfriend who has broken contact for 2 years.

This seems like the perfect recipe for heart-wrenching romance, and it is. We are brought along for the ride as we witness the development of something akin to true love between the two leads, feeling and rooting for them. Of course when things go bad, all of us brought up boxes of tissues as we struggle through the episodes.

All in all, Pride has all the right ingredients, love , sacrifice, honor, and it really left a touching impression in many of us. I'm pretty sure this would be one of the dramas people would be talking for a long time.

I must admit that i have grown an obsession towards this dorama. My most fav dorama was GTO until I have watched this mindblowing master piece.I might as well be exaggerating, but in my opinion this dorama is totally the best !Firstly,Kimura Takuya is here, and this is enough of a reason to try out Pride. The plot is awesome, how the value pride gets connected with the matter of icehockey, which frankly one way or another achieves to get the watchers attention.(Take me,for example,i know absolutely nothing about icehockey but now i am pretty interested in it.)This dorama is more than a love story,it is something else, well, the love part is also as touching and fantastic,i have never seen such a beatiful first kiss before.Anyways,Pride is a dorama that even those who are not interested in doramas should watch,so make sure you dont miss it !! By the way,Kimura Takuya rocks! Man i am high over heels about him.

7. good [Rating: 8/10]
I'm not a big fan of hockey, or even a huge Takuya Kimura fan at that, but I watched this because I had nothing else to watch one afternoon. :P At first I was neutral about this; the story seemed nothing spectacular. But well, turns out that this drama is very enjoyable and fun to watch!

Yuko Takeuchi is love. I really find this actress pretty and I like the way she carries her roles (cute and funny in Mukodono and Queen of Lunch). Her character Aki is quite a difference from the bubbly personalities of the other roles I've seen her in. KimuTaku was so cute in this drama, those I have noticed that he always plays these kinds of characters. The thing I loved the most in this drama was the camaraderie among the members of the hockey team and the support they give for each other.

I found the cheesy ending quite laughable and old-fashioned but I'm glad it was a happy one ;P Good drama.

the previous kimura drama i watched was [sora kara..] and i expected this one to be the same, but it wasn't as the story went on.. i loved all the parts where halu showed how much he loved aki, it's been a long time since i'd seen such scenes of guys doing all they can for the girls they love.. kimura was great as halu, in fact, i can only picture him as halu, and takeuchi yuko was as usual superb.. the supporting cast of sakaguchi kenji, sato ryuta, ishida yuriko and esp ichikawa somegoro etc. really were so poignant that it made the drama even better.. script was great, really knew how to make me cry a lot.. i especially loved the scene where halu threw away the key with the pink ribbon, only to take out of his pocket another key with a ribbon as well, i completely broke down there.. a must-watch! kimura had done it again..

i was hesitant to watch this drama at the beginning b'coz i thoughts its sport drama with lots of hockey matchs..etc. but i was wrong!! when i started watching, i got hooked from the early eps, and the shows kept grabbing me even more now that i reached ep 9! its had a lot of twisted and heart touching stories! the relationship between Haru and Aki is so warm and romantic at times! even the hockey matches didnt annoy me at all, it was rather exciting! Yuko (Aki) was EXCELLANT! just watch her in ep 7 *SPOILERS* when she started panicking on the bridge after Kimutaku(Haru) talked about "the game is over" and she shed tears while shivering and looking at her long waited bf standing behind Haru and watching!! *superb acting* A MUST SEE Drama!!

there are some problems, such as the often times passive (borderline weak) character of aki etc. but overall i think this drama is one to watch. made me laugh, cry, and root for the characters.

i love kimura takuya in this drama. i think he's at his most charming (strong and passionate but also flawed and sensitive with a touch of melancholy). also, the rest of the cast is amazing. they create a drama with good flow (doesn't drag on) and lots of heart. both the romantic relationships and the bonds of friendship are touching. the show did a good job of alternating between the two themes to create balance so that it's not overly lovey dovey. highly recommended, kono dorama o mite kudasai!

i agree with above review, kimura takuya is the most overrated actor ever. kimura always gives a competent performance but shows very limited range. he tries too hard to be cool, doesnt seem natural... more like hes 'acting,' he needs to take a chance and do something new for a change. until then, hes zzzz...

as for the show, the story is very mediocre, nothing special about it except it has hockey in it. being an avid hockey fan, i found it insulting that a whiny lil cry baby (motoko?) is even allowed to play. afraid of getting hit? B @#$%ing S

an enjoyable drama which has kimura takuya sporting a character that is perhaps a bit more flawed and less likeable than some of his other roles but it only goes to show the inner vulnerability of the character. takeuchi yuuko was amazingly bright and pretty. her character was not necessarily a model of modern feminism but nonetheless realistic in the portrayal. i recommend this drama too for those interested in the themes of friendship, duty and loyalty. the supporting cast was quite entertaining as well.

BAD MUSIC.. maybe
you gotta love the QUEENS.
BAD ACTORS.. maybe
Takeuchi Yuko shines a lot in this dorama.
Wasn't too impress with KimuTaku, but he was okay.
BAD SUBPLOTS.. MUST BE
The main story was good, even though it was really draggy.
BUT subplots were boring. I didn't find them interesting at all.

The drama got on a fabulous start. Takuya was the "star" of the show, his charisma, his dazzling eyes---- when confronting his hockey opponents, when searching for Aki among the spectators, when hitting the goal------is simply irresistable! The plot developed very well, but only up to the point when Halu and Aki discovered that they were in love with each other. Then, the story became wierd and the playful ending to the Halu-Aki relationship reduces their love to something of a game.

One of the best sport dorama ever featured! As usual, Kimura, the heck-care attitude towards women works this time again in this dorama. Guess that is his signature acting in doramas, which won the hearts of female fans out there.

Great cast except that wimpy character, Sato Ryuta, that makes ice hockey team looks unappealing. Great chemistry between Takeuchi Yuko & Kimura! Story flows just like their love.

One of the best dorama that worth watching!

I am a sucker for "tough, popular, attractive playboy finds a special someone"-dramas, especially with Kimura in it. I also am a fan of icehockey therefore I thought this drama would suit me perfectly. And yes, in many ways it did! I aww'ed, I rewind and rewatched scenes, I even paused sometimes to think through the past scenes again in my head! It was cute and very genuine and made me feel so warm inside, I was like in love w/o being it irl. During the show however I realized smth about Kimura. I've always thought he is a good actor (and superattractive...it must be his voice!!) but now Ive come to see that its almost always the same type of roles he plays. Not the same characters, but he use the same bodylanguage and expressions, it proves his lack of variation. However I can't stop liking this type of role since it fits him perfectly, I don't think anyone could have been more suitable of this drama. The rest of the cast, Takeuchi, Sato Koichi, Sakaguchi were awesome as always and the rest Ive no complaints about. Concerning the development I kinda liked it until about the 7th episode. I have to say I like when things happen early in dramas and not waiting till the very last second. However they dragged the whole "past-boyfriend" out for too long, from the 7th ep till the very end. It was boring and sometimes very frustrating during those episodes until the lovely ending showed up. The hockeymatches were not my favorites though, too much slowmotion. I also have to add that when jdramas use old rockbandsongs like queen (it worked so well in engine too with aerosmith and jimmy cliff) its even more pleasant to watch, its very suitable for a hockeydrama as well. The music also gives the drama an old touch (old in a positive way) like sweet 80's. My last comment is about the environment in the drama, it was so... cosy!!! Watching this when autumn aint far away is most recommendable!

i didn't like this at first mainly after watching the scene where haru hits the puck at aki in a fit of anger and it bounces off the plastic wall. i hate violence against women. but talk about chemistry and the way kimura san continues to develop his image. yamada yoji san on meeting kimura for his next film was nothing short of ecstatic. can very well imagine that given his performance in pride.

for myself, this role of kimura's outdoes his other great roles in sora kara and hero mainly because of characterisation. here in pride, kimura conveys so well the mixture of haru's sheer self confidence, arrogance, vitality, inspiration and vulnerability. the character is utterly believeable. professionally he excels at work. personally, he bears the stigma of a lost mother and is unable to trust or give himself easily. yet that does not diminish him and haru is a great friend, someone who values and treasures his friends, a person with great intergrity and sense of honour ("pride"). when he finally meets the woman for him, his soul mate, they fall deeply in love and haru opens himself up to this great love, loving aki with a passion and tenderness equal only to his love for his game.

i don't think any other actress could have played the part of aki. and ichikawa somegoro's interesting character, too bad no time to really develop it. as makoto says of tomonori: i am now looking at you differently ... after the pep talk by tomonori to the team in the absence of haru and hirozaku. wa, charismatic. and good music used to great effect. overall the drama could have done with an additional episode.

Excellent series!! I'm not a big sports fan - but this wasn't really about Hockey and where it was, it made sense. As far as characters go, this may be the series with the best average character - I liked pretty much every character. One complaint is the overly positive nature of the male characters in relationship with the female characters (there was some redemption, but it seemed a little imbalanced). I thought Takeuchi and Takuya were great!! Lovely chemistry, and great characters in their own right.

I really like Yuko (best smile, ever), but really it was Kimura who won me over again. There's a reason he's been in so many dramas - he's that good.

I loved the opening theme enough to go download the original Queen song. It's a great song.

I do have one serious complaint - an otherwise superb presentation hindered by one of my least favorite Jdorama cliches: characters in a pivotal moment pass by each other and their missing each other is a determinative factor in their relationship. Bleh. It would have had a 10 otherwise and it nearly earned an otherwise superb drama an 8.

Watch this series.. especially if you don't care about hockey. It's a wonderful exploration of character development and the contrast between the negative and positive implications of Pride.

Great series.. Kimura acting great as always.. It's interesting how whenever I watch a sports-series I kind of get interested in it for the moment. It proves maybe that the series succeeded in making the viewers interested and 'in-to' the plot... or how I should describe it..

Even though some seems to have been annoyed by the character Makoto who yells after 'Aniki', I think I liked him best though. He was really funny and I liked him alot. It was fun watching his scenes XD.. I think Kimura should have changed his attitude or character in the end and be more loving,, to show that he's changed after those years returning from Canada.. I thought that he seemed to still be kind of.. um, dark? Like before.

Oh, and then. Did anyone notice Kimura's REALLY dark bags under his eyes in the last scene, the last episode, on the ice? o.o Gosh, I don't think he has been sleeping for days back then! Must really have worked hard on filming the series, ne. It kind of shocked me, he looked awfully tired.. and his lips were so white too.. Poor him, though the hard work really did pay off! The series went out to be successfull, I think.

And the soundtrack was fit to the series too. It's recommended~

First, Kimura Takuya and Takeuchi Yuko are as always superb, even if they are pretty much playing the same type of roles as they always do. They work really well together as a couple; it definitely makes a lot of sense to have two of the best stars acting together in a well done love story. It's also as generic as humanly possible, and quite often overdone and cheesy. Really that sums it up rather easily.

The only other things I feel a need to mention are that it's about hockey, and I absolutely hate sports. I would literally rather watch grass growing than to watch sports. Also the music is so unbelievable bad that I cursed God for creating me with ears. It's all some crappy cock-rock (I think it's all Queen), that perfectly matches something awful like sports. I do realize that not everyone has the same tastes as me, so I am not going to be to critical of these things, as in I can't fairly call them flaws, but they did make it very hard for me to watch. I had to fast forward through the opening credits every single time, because I couldn't bear it.

The storyline is interesting and KimuTaku already shines thru in this series (he's not as aloof as in his other series). Takeuchi Yuko isn't as ditzy as she was in Mukodono....but she also looks MUCH taller (b/c KimuTaku's so much shorter than Nagase Tomoya! haha), but her chara's not as fun here. The chemistry btwn the hockey team players are good, and I think it's interesting that many of the actors here are new. It's just a bit disappointing that the other 3 features guys of the team (Tomo, Makoto, & Yamato) are so clear-cut for their personalities.....but luckily, after 4 eps their characters got developed and they're all really good! Especially impressed by Makoto (Sato Ryuta). Sadly, Yamato (Sakaguchi Kenji)'s pic here looks so bad! But when you see him in drama, he's actually pretty good looking. I like him here more than in Itsumo Futari

I can't believe this is written by Nojima Shinji..It's so different with his other dramas. Anyways, this drama was pretty good, but it was just way too cliche. Kimura Takuya looked very good in this drama. Satonaka Haru reminded me of Kimura Takuya in so many ways. My favorite episode is actually ep.1. I loved the scene where Haru carries Aki on the ice. However, toward the end, this drama got a little bit too much.. It's centred too much on Haru, and nobody else. Aki had no real personality as THE 'good girl.' It's a drama making Haru a hero, with a very typical storyline. I especially didn't like the part where Haru sees the goddess of ice. It just ruined the drama...However, it had great soundtrack! Queen's 'I was born to love you' was a great song. I also liked Takuya's hairstyle here....

I know in real life that Hockey is catching on in Japan. I think the NHL just had a Japanese player made a team I think. But the hockey action in this show is decent. The ladies are cute and the guys are cool. The show can be a little too sexist or chauvanistic. The men are all macho but the women are nothing more than eye candy, being cheerleaders in the stands. But I guess most team sports are like that. Takuya's character is somewhat too arrogant and possessive for my taste. I like a little more balance in a main protagonist.

And the most annoying thing, the dude kept saying "Maybe" for every situation. Like it's cool or something. Uhhh...no. Not cool. Major overusage here. Is it recommended? Yeah, it's not bad. Not one of Takuya's best, but it's okay.
9. Comments by Patazilla [Rating: 8/10]
Enjoyed this drama overall, however there's some criticism... "maybe". [slight SPOILERS] First, I thought there were stronger and weaker episodes throughout the first half, however, it was with the appearance of Aki's boyfriend that I thought matters got somewhat out of hand. I'm not really sure how to feel, but Aki certainly got me frustrated and outright pissed with her behaviour then and although they gave us some reasoning it didn't really help. Then again (and that's why it's mainly "maybe") humans don't always take the "right" decisions and act on logics. So I'm still undecided on it, although clearly pissed nevertheless.[/SPOILERS] Strong points: the chemistry between Haru and Aki as well as the whole ice hockey comeradeship. Lovely! <3

Someone please stop making Kimura the "cool" guy with too much time on his hands. The first episode, sitting through his nonchalant and cool air wasn't so bad--it was cute because he wanted to pick up Takeuchi Yuko. After that, I started to get annoyed. The hockey bit isn't as interesting as I thought either. Not to mention how unexpectedly annoying it gets to hear Kimura say, "Maybe / Must be" every other scene--good god, please stop. However, THERE ARE SOME REDEEMING FACTORS in this drama: an outstanding supporting-male cast, unbelievably adorable gestures made between the two lovebirds, and it's well-shot. For that, I'd say PRIDE is good to watch if you've got nothing else to do.

did not perform to my expectations..... i wasnt as touched as compared to "Good Luck", let's not even mention "Beautiful Life".....

is it becuz i watched 3 Takuya Kimura dramas in succession? or is it becuz my expectations were too high?

disappointing romance between the two leads (n to think i really like kimura n yuko), especially since the starting seem to promise so much..... though i like the ending....

the other characters were quite interesting but they were not engaging enuff.....

i think they can make the hockey scenes longer, as i thought those scenes were really exciting n uplifting.....

disappointment overall.... just an above average jap drama..... :(

i've only just finished disc 4 atm but oh gosh :I i just melted. it's all the usual cliche themes thrown in (ie. lovely, purehearted, innocent girl slowly melting the 'frozen heart' (yes that literally) of the jaded haru who was from young deprived of motherly care) BUT they were so sincere and good acting out the plot (which was far from cheesy given those very cliche/stale themes) it just makes you melt from the inside out. one of the best jdramas i've watched to date. oh man. now i'll be trapped in fantasy world for months! oh :I but whatever it's so very nice and heartwarming to watch shows like this.

Overall, a highly enjoyable love stroyline IMO. Kimura plays Satonaka Halu, an ice hockey captain who puts on a brave icy cold front in the face of any adversity. However all this changes when he gets to know office girl Aki (Takeuchi Yuko). She is waiting for her boyfriend to return and is lonely, and they make a pact to keep their relationship as a game. However Aki starts to break through the icy exterior of Halu and they both fall in love with each other. The side stories are also great, particularly with the love situation of Sakaguchi Kenji's character. Great acting, Great soundtrack from Queen (especially the theme song). Highly Recommended!!~~

Oddly enough, even though I had been a Dorama fan for a while, this is my first complete Kimura series....wow, what a great series!!!! Yuko plays a great lead (much better than Lunch Queen, which was good too) and the supporting cast is great as well.

I just finished this, and it definitely goes on my list of all time fav's. I've had the VCD's from the OG series -- Long Vacation, and now I absolutely have to watch it.

Also, I usually am not of fan of English songs in JDramas, but Queen's "I was born to love you" is perfect for this series, and I keep playing it over and over in my car!

Great dorama and for those who think this is a sports dorama, you are wrong, the hockey is secondary, this is a romance with some dorama.
The first 5 episodes were a litle boring, but after that it really picked up, all the four male characters from the team were awesome: Halu, Tomo, Makoto and Yamato. YamatoLs story with the love-money-Yuri was really enjoyable so was of course Halu and AkiLs boyfriend-girlfriend game.
From what i watched from Takuya, this was his best performance, he really sold his character(Halu) very well, not my favorite dorama with him but it was his best performance.

I loved Pride. Although I wouldn't say it's the best, it introduced me to the wonder that is J-Dorama and for that it is very near and dear to my heart. It has a great cast (Kimura, Takeuchi, Sakaguchi...) and the romance + ice hockey made it interesting. The reason I couldn't give it a 10 is because of the episodes when they were seperated (Such torture! Couldn't it be resolved quicker?). The ending was good, but somehow not enough. Anyways, I think Kimura and Takeuchi make a great couple (better than Kimura and Matsu Takako! >:P~) Oh, and Queen soundtrack, what more could I ask for?
17. Comments by tabana [Rating: 6/10]
Is it good? Maybe... but mostly maybe NOT!
For some reasons I hate pride. Must be, because they say the drama's title 50 times per episode. Could also be the cry baby I forgot his name. "Waa, we ran out of orange juice aniki." The story could've been 3 episodes shorter. Sometimes nothing's going on. No dialogs; people just walking or standing there doing nothing at all. Just some camera pans and zoom in or out. I'm supprised they didn't film any actors sitting on the toilet for 15 minutes.
Yuko and Kimutaku are good, but the story is slow and the side stories are mostly boring.

i luv takuya n i luv yuko that's why i give this rate but not to forget i do luv the story n i do like both of them to get along in others dorama. it just like the chemistry between both of them is quite good just like he wit matsu.... wit the story line.... nice job.. i do really like it.. how haru@halu got the attendtion of the world... the compilacation in his life n his games wit his group... the caring-ness of the beloved ones.. how he protec Aki from natsukawa.. how love is everything n it's good enough to watch. i do finish the dorama 1 just 1 night straight... hehe.....

*Sigh* What can I say? I think the Japanese scriptwriters study the psychology of fans and are very intelligent in tailoring dramas to meet the fans' need for fantasy. Kimura is fabulous in this drama. He always has to fall for plain jane, rather than the attractive sexy girl. It gives many ordinary women hope, hoping that one day a cool Kimura-look-alike sport star will fall for them and smoulder them with affection. Wow! The plot develops well, not too draggy and the cast is pretty to look at as well. Many different angles of Kimura's boyish grins. What else can one asks for?!

The classic Queen's song "I was born to love you" with the cinematic-feeling opening video is incredibly well done. It even sent chills down my spines the first time. Add the close-shots of the main character's killing-gaze and it might even be epic. Concerning the show it is definitely better when it isn't too serious and has a more humorus approach. Later when it eventually turns into a full-fledged drama it becomes rather ordinary. Still, good acting from the cast, and the drama is still very good despite the somewhat inconsistent quality in the show.

In my opinion, this was the best Kimura drama that I have ever seen. Even though, I like Good Luck! a lot, Pride somehow managed to display more of Kimura's amazing acting talents compared to his other dramas. In Pride, Kimura successfully portrayed an emotionally complex character. Apart from the typical confused-with-love type of character, he successful transformed himself into a captian, who possesses great leadership skills. And on top of that all, he aslo showed us his ability to do comedic, edgier and tougher roles. Pride is definitely a must see!!!

Sports dramas are not usually my thing but I got into this one and finished it quite quickly. Great characters and dialogue, Kimura Takuya and sports seems to be a winning combination because it also worked in his later drama, Engine. However, there were some points in the plot where I was quite annoyed. Nothing bad could ever happen to Halu unless he did it to himself. Meanwhile, the people around him suffer from all kinds of things they have no control over. Guess that's what you call leading a "charmed life"? Good drama and worth watching.

the beginning and middle was really good but once it got to like .. . . episode 7 or 8 . .. . IT SUCKED SOOO BAD!!!! I thought it was a lil too dramatic? actually i think it got really weird once takeuchi met back her old boyfriend, i tihnk the time she was with kimura was like the only parts i like .. . . and wat's up with that guy friend of kimura and that girl friend of takeuchi . . .. sooo weird . . but overall ok drama la . . . give it a try since everyone likes kimura . .. . . except me @.@ *ahem* don't kill me people!!!!

i watched pride str8 after good luck. and i must say i prefer gd luck. pride isn't bad thou. after all, no kimura's shows are bad. becos u'll always haf him to swoon over. and i always like him in his short hair. yuko however doesn't strike too much of an impression as she does in mukodono. but i love watching kimura play ice-hockey! especially when the movements are done by himself. simply too coool! the death part was pretty sad though.. i like the way kimura always slack his way round in yuko's hse. hehehe.

Loved it! Kimura's role as Halu Satonaka was really convincing! Really loved the part where he shared an emotional bond with Aki (breaking down in tears) and Aki comforting him. Indicated him as a strong person on the outside but still in need of a woman in his heart to comfort his pain. Highly recommended! Good soundtracks as well, mostly Queen's songs. Will not get bored watching this over and over again. The other casts in their own storylines are also good to watch. Don't miss this one out!

I wouldn't say it is a MUST watch drama, but it's very enjoyable. I must say, I am proud to be Canadian lol. But still I hate hockey. It is a very violent sport. Kimura.. um. everyone says he is good, but i don't quite see it yet. his character is the same as Good Luck. or as least similar. I don't like Yuko that much. I gotta admit that the ending did suck. Everything was realistic until the end. I really dunno how i feel about this drama. I am confused lol. It is good, but in a weird way.

At first I didnt like Haru at all, neither his looks nor his behaviour but then I grew to like him after all ... and I think he's cute^__^ I hated this drama for keeping me so long in suspense cause I already thought that there won't be a happy end and Haru wont come back..^^;;; I cried a lot during this drama!! Also I loved the fact that there were Queen songs there^___^
Well..Generally... I loved it! *^^* When I was watching it I felt as if I were in another world..somehow >.> ^^

usually im more interested in dramas where the actors are in highschool,
tho this was really good and im glad that i took the time to watch something thats not really my thing?

Kimura Takuya is HOT
and is waay older than me! lol he is still sexy in my eyes idc. =]
his acting was GREAT.

i can talk about this drama aall day
but i'll stop now =]

Fell short of my expectations. The first half was engaging but the story deflated when the focus shifted away from Halu and Aki's courtship (the only interesting element of this drama). The weak, uninteresting supporting characters and subplots failed to fill in the gaps. The ending was utterly unsatisfying and unrealistic because the lead-up to it made no logical sense whatsoever. But I rate this drama a 7 because the first half was decent and I'm a fan of Queen, Yuko and Kimutaku.

trust me, this is a fabulous show, it hasn't even finished screening, and u c quite a number of votes already, precisely bcoz itz good. but sum ppl out there dun like it bcoz they think halu(kimura), is too cold and not the kimura they like to c, but isn;t it more special this way? dosent it shows once again, kimura's wonderful acting?also, the other casts are still rather young and new, but together, they created a wonderful chemistry. this is a MUST WATCH!
2. chyra
this is my favourite kimura drama. relaly. this is a different drama, really, tho a love drama, but a really beautiful one, kimura did not act as a love hero this time, he acts as a lonely man, whu darent love, and always treat it as a game, here, we'll c how yuko san change his opinion, and we really c a true and beautiful love story, love and fight! with ice hockey adding a touch of magic to this drama, a wodnerful pair. a MUZ C

it took me a while to watch this dorama, I was never a kimutaku fan nor did the synopsis of this dorama interest me... but this is the most believable dorama i've watched, got me giggling and screaming and crying and feeling the warm fuzzies.. now im huge fan of kimutaku and im now looking for more dramas with him in it. Beautiful plot and storyline and watching it taught me so much 10/10~! must see!

Just finished re-watching it for the 2nd time.. I'm sure there will be more chances coming up.. Pride's really a nice show. It's not just abt ice-hockey, yet there's enuff of the game being played to keep the viewers entertained. Kimura and takeuchi are a perfect couple!! I really like the episode abt his mum, and the parts abt him and her.. A brilliant plot acted out by A star artistes!!!
5. Longman
Kimura is unbelievable charming as Halu and Takeuchi impresses me with her flexibility by playing the straight-talking Aki so well. Itfs only their first-time working together, but it's a great combination in the making. Having Ice hockey as the backdrop is quite an attraction but nothing beats the flamboyant sounds of Queen as the players go all out in the rink. Captivating!!
6. UWFShooter
A winner on hand. Despite the (IMO) similarity to Love Generation, Kimura & Takeuchi make a great combo who despite not being so lovey-dovey has great chemistry. I've got nothing but great respect for the man. And Yuko, despite not being as sleazoid as in Queen of Lunch, is able to pull off sweetness.

The all-Queen soundtrack rocks too, I've got to buy these songs!
7. Tu_triky
an enjoyable drama which has kimura takuya sporting a character that is perhaps a bit more flawed and less likeable than some of his other roles but it only goes to show the inner vulnerability of the character. takeuchi yuuko was amazingly bright and pretty. her character was not necessarily a model of modern feminism but nonetheless realistic in the portrayal
8. pandaguitarist
i don't even know how to explain this, but i fell in love with the drama as soon as i started watching it. it's incredible to see such a well-rounded drama with a lot of plot and character development. the romantic moments are amazing; kimura and takeuchi had GREAT chemistry. the side casts are entertaining as well. it's authentic. you wouldn't want to miss it.

A guy who doesn't know how to love... falls so much in love that it almost destroys him. I love this drama because the characters are developed so well around each other and together. It's a very romantic story and definiately a tear jerker. A must watch for anyone who is a romantic and dreams of meeting their perfect match.
11. uchi23
this drama relly touched me.. seriously because i think im very similar to Halu sometimes.. the drama made me laugh a lot and smile from watchin halu and aki together.. halu is defentely played by a relly talented actor.. aki is so kawaii because of her personality n looks.. i look forward to watchin more dramas with them =]

i LIKE KIMUTAKU and i think his role in this drama was great! also Yuko Takeyuchi was excellant and all the other actors were good! the OST Was great! Acting was great! story and side stories were great and touching! this is the first time i ever voted or wrote a review about a j-drama! isnt this reason good enough? hehe
13. GIGI
It's up there on my list with Long Vacation. One that you will finish in one sitting. This despite the fact that I have not seen an actual hockey game and I come from a tropical country. The view of hockey and the love story between the characters of Kimura and Takeuchi makes a great mix.
14. Jani
I love Pride. Though I must admit that it would have been much better if Aki's old boyfriend never came back to muddle up the later episodes which would have made Pride an instant classic. But fast forwarding those parts and simply focusing on the Aki-Halu interactions is worth it.
15. ridzz
I think this is a great story to watch. The chemistry between the actors are great. It looks like they're friendship are more than just on-screen.. It's genuine friendship that shines through.. especially between Kimura Takuya and his Blue Scorpions teamates. My vote goes to them!
16. yukari_no_hoshi
It's a great drama I think because the cast is just superb! I think there was a lot of chemistry between KimuTaku and Yuko's characters... really loved it!!! Made my heart yearn for more, finished it in two nights teehee! I think that's a good enough reason for voting for it man!
17. dinaluban61
This drama is too damn good. Everything was top notch. The acting was great and even though the music was just Queen, it really set the mood. The opening sequence and the whole series gives me a funny but happy feeling. Such a great drama. Bravo Kimutaku and Yuko Takeuchi.
18. morgana1616
I love hockey, it is a hockey drama, however that isn't enough to get me to vote for it. I thought the characters were well written and the acting was amazing. Not only do you fall in love with the main characters but you fall in love with the secondary characters too.

Description of how a game develop into a true love story between two lost soul, Halu-san & Aki-san. Also descripe another story between Yamato-san & Yuri-san, one is a poor salary man and one is a lady office who want to marry a rich man. Great drama to watch!
20. MissMonika
One of the best dramas I've seen so far. Kimutaku is absolutely brilliant. He gives his character such intensity and emotion. Aki and Halu have great chemistry together. And the story is awesome. Definitely recommend this to anyone, even if they don't watch hockey.
21. beryl_28
I think that the two main actor and actress acted really well in the show.. they hit off really well and it just seems to me that they have that sort of chemistry in them...Halu and A-ki!!! I like ice-hockey too.. i think this show is also rather meaningful!
22. tiesw
Best movie seen thus far with ideas beyond imagination. Superb actor/actress. However, initially I thought story writer died after Ep-7 & came back for Ep-11 but now after watched everything, it's the best thing that happened thus far. Very good!!!!

HeLs kakoi, you got to admit. I didnLt want to, but he is... sheLs is so good acting, theyLre both rated here as the greatest adult couple in dorama, really an deep affair - cliché, but, hey, itLs j-drama... itLs a drama! Worth see it...

It's a best sport dorama i've ever seen. The dorama shown the spirit of the team and the loyality of the woman. but you know what, every woman need man for her safety.. =) but i don't know it's true or not in the real life... just wondering... ja ne
25. fighterpilot
I'm a hcokey player.... I know the game well.. the game sequences are absolutely horrendus, but it gets points becuase you get into the story, and learn to HATE AKI'S BF. haha They really should of got a stunt double for kimura...
26. evil_zai
it won't sink when kimutaku's on the boat. but more than that, this drama has heart. it's good. and the lead actors' chemistry is hard to ignore. you can just feel it. i've watched this almost ten times, and liking it every time.

It's a romantic drama *I Think* And Kimutaku once again played as a Cool Guy who has a BIG PRIDE! I like the chemistry when Aki and Halu meet each other, I really can feel it...! It's about Love, Life, Career and Friendship!

the main thing that attracted me to this drama is the fact that it is about hockey, i wanted to see how well kimura takuya could play hockey and since i'm such a big hockey fan, anything to do with hockey interests me

Love it, Kimitaku and Takeuchi Yuko have such great chemistry in the sports drama. Story may not be the greatest but the performance more than make up for it, helps to have 2 of my favorite actors in it :)
