Synopsis
Kai Yuuki (Satoshi Tsumabuki) is in his senior year at university studying social welfare psychology. At present, he is in the middle of job-hunting season. He is finding it difficult with no job offers so far.
One day, he meets a girl who is playing violin in the campus. She is Sae Hagio (Kou Shibasaki). In marked contrast to her beautiful tone and attractive looks, her personality is somewhat impertinent. And to top it off, she communicates through very vulgar sign language.
Four years ago, she lost the most important thing for a violinist - her hearing. As a result Sae closed off her inner self from the outside world.
Kai finds himself on a date with Sae, in place of his best friend. Unexpectedly, he comes into contact with Sae's private side.
Love, job-hunting, friendship... Setting a campus in spring as a dorama`s backdrop, it's the start of a glittering youth drama.

1. Reflection of our Memories [Rating: 9/10]
Memories are what I value the most. Without memories, I can't see much motivation in what anyone is doing, regardless of personal value. If we can't remember or reflect on the past, how can we be prepared for the future?

Orange Days is an even-paced, bittersweet drama that causes us to reflect on our youth, be it middle school, high school, or college. The setting of the show is at a university, and the story revolves around what comes to be known as "Orange no Kai," the Orange Society. The small club is composed of five members and together they live out their last year on campus, their primary goal is to create many good memories before they graduate. Of particular focus is Sae, a deaf girl capable of hearing the occasional high pitch sound or vibration who is still trying to cope with her 4 year bout with her disability, and Kai, a student who's thoughts are dwindling between his carefree days as a student and the uncertainty of his future as an adult.

This drama is reminiscent of Asunaro Hakusho which has a similar setting without a member with a disability. While Asunaro Hakusho thrives on it's jilting melodramatics and intense character situations, Orange Days shines in it's subdued situations and subtle but powerful moments of emotion. In this respect, Orange Days is calm and serene and urges us that while there are many hardships that we as members of society have to overcome, as long as one has the strength to rely on others as much as ourselves, we will have a fighting chance at overcoming the hurdles presented to us.

The storyline was very well-written and absolutely never overdone. In fact, I'm somewhat surprised that something like this could come out of Japan as I am so used to dramas relying on shocking moments and "evil" characters to accentuate the happy moments they present. The only thing I didn't like were some of the actions of Sae's mother, who in later episodes did things almost opposite of what her character originally did -- it made me seem like I thought I knew her but didn't.

It's very refreshing to see that no awkward zoom-ins or traditional Japanese-ish camera angles were used... if there was English dialogue, this could definately pass as a Western show. However, the Japanese setting and social actions by the characters are what attracts me to these dramas in the first place, and are very welcome.

Also of particular interest was the mild and emotionally sublime soundtrack. Naoki Sato did an incredible job of capturing the essence of the memories of college life. The feel-good mood of the entire series can be heavily attributed to the soundtrack. The end song Sign by Mr. Children was very well chosen and complimented each episode. And while some people thought Shanghai Honey by Orange Range was jarring in the middle of a particular episode, I thought it did well creating a specific memory for Orange no Kai. It's moments like those that make you wish you could relive your youth.

Shibasaki Kou did a very good job at portraying a jilted, once-famous deaf person. Her character was annoying at times and forced the audience to feel what she herself was going through. At times I wish she could tear up a bit more, as I probably would have cried more myself if she did... it would have made her performance top notch. Tsumabuki Satoshi did very well himself. He never overacted and was able to convey every emotion required of his character. All the other actors did well, too, notably all of Orange no Kai.

One of the few things the show lacked was a strong ending. I suppose this is hard to do with such a subdued, realistic storyline. While I enjoyed the series from beginning to end, I think certain plot points could have been resolved in a way that could evoke more emotion than it did. Having been written more realistically, I felt I could associate myself with the main characters, but there were times where I wanted to cry more but realized there's no point in doing so if the character wasn't going to (although there were several points where they did emote well).

Still, Orange Days is a refreshingly subdued drama that never overdoes the dramatics. It does a wonderful job of creating the memories that form the backbone of it's story and development of it's characters. For this reason alone, you maintain a good feeling after each episode and complete the series with a good memory yourself -- watching Orange Days.

2. A character driven do-not-miss [Rating: 8/10]
I wanted to give it a 10.

I absolutely loved it. It was great. It was fun. It was sweet. All the goodies. The opening music is very simple but every time the opening credits came on, I was happy to see them - the song is simple and catchy and just feels right.

Kai is brilliantly acted, even if the character is a little compartmentalized. He may have belted out one of the most impressive performances I've seen in a Jdrama. Sae's challenges and personality are amazingly handled, if a little over the top at times. She has that bifurcated personality that can make her unbelievably sweet and endearing but at the flip of a coin, an unreasonable and confused child. Akane is actually a very strong role as well. She grows a lot (perhaps a little too introspective) through the series and is suprisingly strong. Shohei was a little underdeveloped (a lot of potential for him), as was Keita. Miho was a treat as the ambitious helper who could never quite get it right.

However, it was not without its flaws: The plot is quite cyclical and never very deep. The ending is hasty and curt and somewhat cliche. How often can they throw the same scenario at us and expect us to be excited by it (return of the ex...)

I think it suffers from imbalance on the main characters relative influence on the relationship, putting almost all of the weight on poor Kai. Sae is portrayed as overly weak and doesn't get sufficient opportunity for redemption - her power play at the end is passive and almost codependant. Kai brushes it off with the same skill and charm that makes him almost too invulnerable.

The final shot is so unbelievably cathartic it breathes spectacular richness into the entire experience, even if entirely predictable. I've never had a single shot make me cry every time I watch it - so much vunerability and trust. (writing that made me choke up).

3. Been there, done that [Rating: 7/10]
Orange Days seems to be riding along a formulaic plot, especially when writer Eriko Kitagawa appears to conjure this drama from a concoction of her previous known works, albeit her previous big hits. There are settings and situations in Orange Days that may seem too familiar and resemble the plots of Kitagawa's other dramas, that one can't help but think that perhaps this drama is a laconic summarization of Kitagawa's works to a newer audience. Or perhaps, Kitagawa has run out of fresh, enthralling ideas.

However, don't get me wrong as I did enjoy Orange Days. It does have its moments and the acting is commendable. Tsumabuki Satoshi is really good, giving an ingenuous performance that brings Kai alive. Narimiya Hiroki, Eita and Shiraishi Miho also excel. As for Kou Shibasaki...I find her character, Sae, excruciatingly exasperating from start to finish. Although I like Kou, her spoilt character is frustrating with meagre redeeming qualities. Sometimes I cheer when Kai yells at her. Kou's sign language is good but she frowns way too much.

What I like about this drama, is not the primal love story, but the strong friendships and life depicted in general. These are portrayed very well, giving this drama warmth and a heart. The characters are not stereotyped and we grow with them as the story progresses.

I just wish that Kitagawa had come up with something more original than recreating the run-of-the-mills plot with lines and scenes that have all been done before. For me, that's this drama's main demerit. Not the best I've seen, but worth checking out.

4. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED [Rating: 10/10]
I don't exactly know what to write, for there is very little for me to criticize. Orange Days is about a group of friends stuck in the transition between adolescense and adulthood. As they try to define themselves and set up paths for their futures, they come to realize that defining oneself is harder than one may think.

The glue that makes the plot stick is Sae, a deaf, talented female who is bent on shutting everything out in order to protect herself from what she preceives as a harsh world. Her light in the darkness becomes Kai, and the Orange Society.

Although Sae's character seems to be in the centre of all things, it's not really about her or her own issues. It's about all five characters and their passage into a new, and alien, world. The storyline is very refreshing and true to real life, and the limited amount of characters makes it easier for the viewer to truely understand each one and feel as if the viewer is also part of the Orange Society.

This intimacy is helped along by Shibasaki Kou, who was surprisingly brilliant, and Tsumabuki Satoshi, who has the gift of communicating volumes with his eyes. Great chemistry between the two!

All-in-all, an excellent watch and highly recommended to all who enjoy a refreshing orange. ^.^

5. excellent! [Rating: 9/10]
This dorama reminds me of Tentai Kanzoku , but with less serious and less mature but more touchy problems. and it actually reminded me a little of Jose the Tiger and the Fish hehe , but Sae isn't nuts. A very beautiful dorama indeed, i enjoyed it very very much. the introduction was amusing yet the plot was very original. I also love the character development. I guess i love everything from it. Well some parts made me go ... becoz of all the sign language, but what surprisingly those parts were only a few eventhough it had so many sign language conversations.

The script is what i like best from it. I can't imagine how they came up with such script. The progress was excellent too. And again, i must say i don't regret voting for Tsumabuki Satoshi. Young but talanted. I just loove all the casts. And it became more addicting after episode 7 where more problems show up, closer to the climax. Beautifully pictured and nice songs too. Still, i think a few parts went a little too slow. and Ueno Juri's (she really looked like Utada Hikaru when she was young) part was so small.

overall, a very very memorable series! and it definitely has one of the best endings ever!

6. A must watch as this JDorama is absolutely the bes [Rating: 10/10]
I thought I'd never ever give another 10 for another JDorama as I've been watching a few that never quite make the 10 mark. Well, that just ended now as Orange Days is a powerhouse 10 out of 10 drama! So much is happening in this series and it had some of the best romantic dialogue I've heard in a long time! I was a bit of a fan of Shibasaki Kou after seeing her in Battle Royale and Galileo, but I'm a huge fan of hers now! She did an amazing job playing a deaf woman, and she played it with such passion and believability that if she didn't win for best actress for this role as Hagio Sae, she should have! I usually buy JDorama's on DVD, but this one wasn't available with the english subs - so I watched it online. I have to say the quality of the subs available online are way better than what you get when you buy the dvd at the asian market. Those ones usually get translated from Japanese to Chinese than to english, so the subs are not as good. This one watching online the subs with right on so the dialogue was just great which made for a great drama! Highly recommended Orange Days.... one of the all time great JDorama's in my opinion!

7. A very good drama for its kind [Rating: 9/10]
This is a good drama but only if it's compared with other dramas that also uses this "standard textbook" formula; a love story about a person with inner turmoil that meets another person who slowly changes him or her. The drama did a great job of playing out the nuances between the characters so they don't seem too dull and monotone. What I like the most is that they don't overdo anything, which is tempting for writers writing dramas of this sort. I say this because I've seen too many dramas of this type in the past that gave the audience too heavy a dose of everything, but not this drama. The misunderstandings didn't drag on too long, and the fights didn't result in anything exaggerated, etc, which gives this drama a softer tone to it, and hence, more real-life like. Again, the plot is nothing new, it stayed in the confines of this type of drama: a person with issue(s) but slowly changes because of another person's devotion and love.

8. seriously good drama [Rating: 9/10]
i admit i'm picky when it comes to jdramas, coz i rarely find any of them really compelling. but orange days is seriously one of the cream of the crop. :) the storyline is really nice, with nice pace & nice moments. if u wanna watch a drama about college life, friends & love -- then this is wat it's all about.

i have to say the star of the show was definitely Yuuki Kai (brilliant acting by the lead actor) -- this guy basically has the golden personality tat could charm any heart of steel (including Sae & her unreasonable mood swings). not to mention he's seriously cute. :) gotta mention the fact tat the rest of the gang was really amusing as well.

if there was one thing less-perfect in this drama, i would say it was the final episode. wasnt exactly in the league of the previous episodes, just so-so. would've been an amazing drama if there was more climax.

9. sweet and endearing [Rating: 9/10]
one of the best television shpws i've ever watched. this drama has a perfect combination of good direction, competent acting and a simple but solid storyline. both leads were completely believable in their respective characters and their emotional scenes together rarely resulted to overwrought hysterics(unlike many other dramas in its genre). kou shibasaki is a great actress, she is pefect in this role, and the sign language aspect of it must have been difficult to memorize, but she did it so naturally. and tsumabuki satoshi is just a genuinely likeable actor, he seems so sincere and real in his role that i found myself wishing "if only such a perfect human being existed in real life.g overall, this is a sweet and engaging coming of age drama, its kind of formulaic, yes but also very very cute and endearing. if you have to watch a jdrama at all, it should be this one.

10. Orange Daze [Rating: 9/10]
This is a really good series, that definately grew on me. Although I didn't find the main characters incredibly likeable at first (Sae especially), after a few episodes they really started to open up, and you see their subtleties.

The characters are pretty emotional for much of the show, but they have balanced out that bitter-sweetness with Keita and his 'Orange Society' plans (hehe). The story overall is very personal, and stays focused on the small group of friends, without straying too much. It captures that intensity of college life/love well.

It's also quite interesting how 'flawed' many of the characters are, in a human way. They can be quite hurtful to one another. They get angry, jealous, and selfish. You get to see both sides, not just the 'perfect' view of their personalities.

A fun and satisfying show, that will make you think. Watch it! :)

This drama was absolutely fantastic. I sincerely would not hesitate to use multiple superlatives to describe my love of Orange Days. I am so completely swept up by how great this drama is as an artistic endeavor and a grand exposition of humanity on so many levels. I would UNEQUIVOCALLY recommend this show to anyone and everyone. The story was great and the acting, greater. Kou Shibasaki's performance was so compelling it instantly became unforgettable to me as one of the most equisitely humane portrayals ever on Japanese television. Satoshi Tsumabuki is a much matured actor and is surely poised to be Japan's next big thing. I found very little regrettable about this show and its fine qualities are too many to enumerate here. Please do yourself a favor and watch this drama.

Absolutely brilliant. Finished this in 2 days, and I haven't been so addicted to a drama in a long time. I'm usually not a great Shibasaki Kou fan, but she was really good in the film as the extremely talented but unfortunately deaf Sae. Tsumabuki also did a great job as Kai, the patient guy willing to bear with Sae's hot temper and shortcomings.

This drama's major plus is very very good and addictive storyline. Always want to make you watch the next episode without taking a break. Really makes you think that wanting to handle all your grief by yourself and to face the world alone maybe isn't the best choice that one can make in life... Also makes us feel how vulnerable we can be when we become different form the rest of the world...

Highly Recommended!~~

Excellent very "personal" drama ie., the viewer is 1 on 1 with only a few characters so you feel like you actually get to know them, other dramas might distance the viewer a bit too much. The feeling of the drama is also excellent very natural and cheerful through life's harshness and touching moments, good attitude. Also liked the *spoken* language (the sign language was great too) - they really made sure to intonate the spoken language properly etc and people made funny accents and pronounciations eg., prolonged vowels so that they are understood that kept me entertained also you won't see characters mumbling in this drama I really dislike dramas that distance the viewer and mumble! ok I have quirky pet peeves, anyway watch it its awesome

I finished this drama in a single day, and find myself searching for more information on the net. I have only watched the more slapstick variety of Japanese drama in the past - "Orange Days" has given me a new insight into J-drama.

There is no doubt Shibasaki has done well in her role. However I've watched "Good Luck" and her performance in OD reminded me strongly of the rigid mechanic in GL. I'm not sure whether Shibasaki is acting the role or acting herself. I'll try to get hold of more drama feathering her to find out.

Not being Japanese I am not sure how realistic OD is, but if this is a quasi-accurate portrait of the Japanese culture/mentality then I suppose it is a good way to get an insight into the Japanese mind.

I really enjoyed the chemistry between all of the main characters, and the interesting backstories that were revealed throughout the series. Orange Days is definitely a series that I wouldn't mind watching again and again. The romance, comedy and drama were well-timed and great, and I learned more Japanese Sign Language each episode. Story-wise, Orange Days was very rich and coherent. The story was about the most important things in life: love, passion, friendship and living. And the way that these elements were sewn together magically speaks to its audience. It's such an inspirational story. It somehow pushes you to ask yourself, "what are the important things in my life? What choices should I make?" Acting-wise, Shibasaki Kou and Satoshi Tsumabuki gave very very compelling performances! You wouldn't believe Kou could speak unless you heard it yourself. She was very believable. I think the entire drama was done in good taste, no overbearing elements, down to the last minutest detail.

I also enjoyed the side stories of Keita trying to express his love to Akane, and the tention being stirred up between Akane and Shohei to the end...
I didn't entirely enjoy the music of Orange Range within the dorama, but Mr. Children's theme "Sign" was perfect for this one...

This is one of the doramas that most friends recommended me, and finally I ending up watching it. The plot of the dorama is interesting especially at the beginning, trying to call the nostalgy of old memories at the university. At the same time, there is a love story that according of the way is explained, seems more a kind of summer love. The relationship between the two main characters reminds me the one that had in Beautiful Life, a man who ending up falling in love with a disabled woman, in this case deaf. Saying this, I prefer more the performance of Tokiwa Takako than here with Kou Shibasaki, her performance didn't convince me. However her character helps us to understand better the complex personality of a person with a disability, always pushing herself to the loneliness. Further to this, in the last episodes there are a lack of events, like if the story ended up focusing too much in the two main characters, forgetting that sometimes the Hiroki Narimiya story was even more interesting than the main one. Satoshi Tsumabuki did it great, but in certain moments reminds me the shy guy in Dekichatta Kekkon. Great to see one of the first doramas of Juri Ueno, in spite of being so young here, her acting is so good. Finally, the ending theme is perfect for the show, if you ever had an affair in Japan, it's impossible haven't listened almost once Mr. Children

Finished re-watching Orange Days (3? years after the first time)... It was really good all the way through, much better than I remembered, but I also understand why I only gave it an 8. It didn't evoke a very deep intellectual or emotional connection with me. The point in the last episode, when Sae wrote that she didn't believe because she was weak, hit close to home and made me think. The cast, though very good, there were fleeting moments when I felt they didn't accentuate all the nuances in the writing, which was thought-provoking at times. Perhaps the director had different interpretation/didn't see them, I don't know. Of course, I didn't understand all of it too, what they were trying to say, the writer, actors, director...

I have been trying to satisfy myself with mediocre/okay dramas for awhile now because I am tired of being disappointed with almost everything. This reminded me of what a high quality drama is like again.

A great series with a lot of heart. College students can especially relate to some of the issues discussed in this drama - what they're doing after college, whether or not they want to pursue a career in their choice of major, why they chose to do a certain major in the first place, etc etc.

Tsumabuki Satoshi gives a winning performance with his heartwarming and touching scenes between Shibasaki Kou. Some of his hand signals that he directed to her were just so powerful like, "I will save you from the darkness." That scene alone evoked so much emotion.

This was a superb series and goes at a nice pace - reminiscent of the pacing in "Summer Snow". The other actors and actresses also pulled off memorable performances. With such a good cast, nice soundtrack, and moving dialogue, "Orange Days" is one series that I highly recommend.

One of my favorite dramas. For me, up there with GTO and Taiga doramas. Tsumabuki and Shibasaki were wonderful as the main protagonists. Because the supporting cast were small, they too left an impression on you. It really does bring me back to my college days when watchig this. First love, first broken heart, finals, job hunting. You name it, I felt it just like the characters in the show. So, this show can be quite personal to a viewer. I appreciate learning so much sign language while watching this. And the ending is nice and neat :-)

Highly recommended. If you want to reminisce about your glory college days, when you sat on campus with your gf/bf, looking at the orange sunset, then this show is definitely for you. Also, it has one of my favorite songs ever, Sign by Mr.Children. Really fits the show like a glove.

never expected that this series will be awesome. me and my friends watched this in 1day. so we were glued on the tv for 11hours. yes, you heard me right, 11hours. anyways, the college setting is unique. ive never seen a series with that for a long time. it made me reminisce the good old days. all the casts are spectacular. hats off to them for learning sign language specially for this series. Tsumabaki satoshi did a marvelous job on playing a friend, lover and support aid. he acts very subtle but the impact is really deep. i loved how friendship was instill and dramatically shown in this series. Kou Shibasaki was alright. i just didnt like her character cause i think she's so selfish and self-centered. but of course, prince charming, Kai-Ku rescued her......great jdorama, simply one of a kind.

A dorama that survives and transcends the typical 'disabled' tag by setting it in a unique background. I would say its a fair reflection of the uncertainty that graduating students face and the quiet, desperate urge to enjoy what precious school time left with your friends. Funny and moving scenes are both excellent and in abundance. Great chemistry between the leads, great OST by Naoki Sato of Good Luck!! I really liked Kai's selfless, emotional character and Sae who underwent a personality change. Kou Shibasaki shows that she is a versatile actress and Tsumabuki Satoshi does himself credit, and I dont have a single bad thing to say about the rest of the supporting cast. I love this drama. n Sign by mr. children rocks!!!!

Portraying the end of college and entering the adult world with a bittersweet feeling and nostalgia. At least that is the intention. It is remarkably ordinary, which is both good and bad. It always stays on a quite realistic level, so you can't blame on much being wrong, but at the same time it doesn't have any real forte, a strong point that distinguishes the show from the others. I didn't fall for the sign language concept. It's nothing wrong, but it's nothing special either. Just a little unusual ingredient that they couldn't master and do something extraordinary of. It did have some quite enjoyable moments and a good ending episode, but overall the show fails to fully captivate one. It lacked a bit of feeling.

Interesting plot, excellent acting by the cast and a kick-a$$ soundtrack on the side! The rabu-rabu moments were nicely done (w/ a dose of humor) that it didn't come out as all cheesy and stuff (unlike most dramas with similar plots.. gahd i hate that ). And of course.... its got Satoshi Tsumabuki in it.. good enough for me. Although i really can't see him and Shibasaki as lovers... more like siblings. LOL. anyhoo... i hope everyone gets to watch this drama. I dunno 'bout you guys but it made me want to learn sign language -- i feel like singing Shanghai Honey the same way they did.. nyahaha!

One of the best dorama based on physically disabled. However i still feel beautiful life (another physically disabled dorama) has a better emotional acting skills and script.

Well, this one isn't too bad at all. The flow of the story is quite ok from episode 1 to the last. Neither too dull nor too slow. Just right!

It also shows the perspective of a deaf person how she comprehand her world in silence, love life and her attitude towards music, as well as her difficulties of making friends, studying and working.

One of the best plots and casting for 2005.
Definitely must watch it.

I loved this dorama, it was so well played by all characters. I love when Sae gets pissed and starts doing sign language really fast, sheLs really cute:).
For the first time ever i saw Eita playing a good character instead of annoying sotb characters(WB, Sapuri, Kimi wa Petto).
At the begining i didnLt like Kai, but he kept growing on me through out the story. I didnLt even notice the passing of time during this(big proof of how much i enjoyed thus), i was really into the plot, very very good dorama.
And the ending was really awesome and sweet, this dorama is a must see for sure.

This drama truly deserves the full rating. Not only Shibasaki Kou acted so well,Tsumabuki Satoshi also protrays very well.

A romance drama with some tear jerker scenes in between,it is 1 of the drama that you find the pace acceptable and not annoying. You can feel the youth and bond of the Orange society and how well it is to go back to college life.On a side note it also gives you an insight view of how deaf could affect a person attitude and feelings.
The OST by Mr children and insert song by Orange Range are also an added bonus.
THis is truly a Must watch for everyone

Orange Days is simply charming and poignant, and I fell in love with both Kou Shibasaki and Satoshi Tsumabuki in this dorama. The story is not a new one, but it is fresh and very well told. The performances of all the supporting casts were very good too. In the end, we cared and felt the growing pains of these young adults as they strived to become adults and make something of themselves. Sae was very challenging role and Kou Shibasaki was splendid in playing her, so much so, that I can't imagine another actress as Sae. Great drama, do not miss this!!

I liked Orange Days, as it dealt with situations that many can us can relate. And, I can definitely relate myself to the situation Kai is facing, "Stuck between a college student and an outstanding member of society." However, one thing kept on popping into my head, while watching this drama. It reminded me of a modern day "Asunaro Hakusho". The story line may be slightly different, but the setting (three guys and two girls becoming best friends, during their college years) and other situations in the story line are very similar to "Asunaro Hakusho".

this was a great drama. Again we see Eita in a fantastic role, and i liked the main character. In the beginning the drama made me uneasy because of the fact that the main character had a gf and the couple was acting in ways that felt borderline unfaithful to me, which made me upset (haha); the character Sae was a bitch in my opinion, which also tended to piss me off. The other characters were great and the story line was also really good. I picked up quite a lot of sign language from watching this! Overall, it was great and i really enjoyed it.

Okay, so I found the plot a bit obivous, and the characters seem to take forever to realize important facts and feelings. BUT, Orange Days was just so cute and funny that I found myself devouring each episode as I got them! I laughed and cried for all of the victories and dissapointments of each of the characters, and I couldn't help but root for their loves to be realized! The ending was perfect and lovely. Narimiya Hiroki, especially, was so fantastic in yet ANOTHER drama. I am looking forward to his future projects! He's so wonderful.

a good change of pace from sillier high-school dramas, but still light-hearted at times so as not to be overly-serious. though mostly focusing on romance between Hagio Sae (Shibasaki Kou) and Yuuki Kai (Tsumabuki Satoshi), this drama also touches on subjects like college and the uncertainties of jobs and careers and where our lives will go from after graduation when we are released into the "real world". highly recommended! i don't give out 9's or 10's to dramas unless i REALLY love them, so i gave it a 10, so you better watch it!!

Absolutely loved this series, it's very well acted, Tsumabuki Satoshi and Shibasaki Kou did a good job playing Kai and Sae, respectively. And I must say that Shiraishi Miho did surprise me a little because I had only seen her in Densha Otoko where she played a very different type of character.

There was a definite strong storyline that was able to keep me hooked, I had to stop myself from watching it all in one session. The interactions and relationships between the characters were believable you do end up caring for them.

My friend recommended this drama to me, so I had pretty high expectations of it. It didn't exactly disappoint, but neither did it live up to it.

Basically a cute and cheerful love story. Even though it doesn't delve too much into the friendship aspect, the bond between the characters makes you envy them.
The cast was good. The female lead started off quite annoying though... but I grew to like her as the plot developed.

It didn't leave too big of an impression on me, except the very last scene where they graduated.

The lead actors all have an unbelievably good bond that goes well with the theme of youthful days full of friendship. In addition, Tsumabuki and Shibasaki also give a portrayal of a cute, sometimes annoying, but always full-hearted young love. The story, however, is loosely related to "Aishiteiru to Ittekure," another drama about a deaf character with a huge chip on his shoulder. In Orange Days, that selfish person is played by a girl. Still, it had unbelievably cute scenes that compare to no other drama, hence the 9.

Sweet & heart-warming, portrayed graduates' dilema about pursuing their dream careers. It's not a drama that gave me yo-yo feelings, it's like a pleasant drive along the moutain highways, maybe if I were abt to graduate now I would feel more for this show. I do enjoy it overall, it just doesn't linger in my mind that's all. Satoshi is a talented & cute actor. I don't find Kou that pretty but she definitely acted well (I have had a few mute neighbours before so I know how they behave)

Been there, done that, seen all. If you've seen one too many shows penned by Kitagawa, they all turned out similar in so many ways it'll crinch you bad. Nevertheless, the quality here got raised a notch (or few) thanks to beautiful music, good direction and most of all, brilliant acting by the cast. They really had a great chemistry going on between them. Tsumabuki and Shibasaki were indeed awesome, but Eita was the one who impressed me most. He really proved his acting versatility in this.

Honestly, if there's an 100 on the rating list, i would rate it to the maximum. I loved how this drama was portrayed. It left me crying and by the time the end credits came rolling in, i had a big goofy grin on my face. Yes, this is what Orange Days does to you. Two thumbs up for Tsumabuki and Kou who did such a wonderful job. I also was impressed by the fluency of their sign language. Somehow, after watching the drama, it had changed my insights on alot of things.

OMG!! Orange Days has the best scene of "love declaration" EVERRRR!!! And the second best as well!!!

Damn... ORANGE DAYS is soooo heartwarming!! And it show how good is to have friends! The casting is marvelous.... Narimiya.. Shirashi Miho... the singer Shibasaki Kou... and of course.. Tsumabuki Satoshi! IMO Tsumabuki is one of the most talentous actors in Japan! And he did a marvelous job in Orange Days...!!!

Orange Days is my fav. dorama so far...!!!

J-Dorama at its best: bittersweet, romantic slice-of-life, pure minimalistic poetry just like a well-written haiku. It may not be the most original plot ever, but...who cares? It works like a clockwork! And - something that doesn't happen too often - it has a perfect cast: every single actor/actress is simply perfect for his/her role. Particular congrats to the leads, Tsumabuki & Shibasaki, but also the supporting cast did just great! Well-deserved 10/10!

Ever since being blown away by Long Vacation I've been working my way through dramas written by Kitagawa Eriko. This one has a less comedic feel than LV, but is still incredibly addictive and touching. It was also enlightening, offering much insight into the world of the deaf. Shibasaki Kou does an amazing job as Sae. At times the whole "last days of college" theme felt cheesy and forced, but watching the Sae/Kai story unfold more than made up for it!

Impressed me somehow, especially the love between Kai and Sae, I was deeply moved. I liked to watch it, it wasn't predictable, and at the end it got excited!
I loved to watch how the guys get along so well, I envied them..
So I enjoyed to see how they also met often out of school...I loved it!!!!
It is the perfect J-Drama ....wonderful time^^ Excellent chemistry between the members of the Orange Society!
Every Character was beautiful on its own way.

i didnt really know what to expect about this series, my friend just came over my apartment and have us watch this. turns out, we got hooked on it for 11hours. yes, we finished this series in 1day. the only break we took was to go to the bathroom and when we had dinner w/c was only in 15mins because everybody was so eager to watch it. this series turns out to be really good and a lot more different from other jdoramas ive seen. i loved the college setting cause it made me reminisce my good old days back then. the friednships, the crammings for test, meeting new people from new places, finishing your thesis, begging your professor for your grades, graduating and worrying about the future. anyways, i think that everybody in the cast did well specially Tsumabaki Satoshi. he's sign language was awesome. i hope he learned that specially for the series. he was very pleasing and wholesome on this series. his facial expressions are phenomenal and to top it all he's really one great actor. Kou Shibasaki was alright. i just didnt like her character very well int hte series. her character is a handicapped and i think she was so self centered and selfish. but of course, Tsumabaki helped her changed and they lived happily ever after. i think Kou had the easiest part on this series cause she was mute and all she did was sign language. in general, i loved this jdorama and i hope they will make more series like this with more deepness.

great change of pace from silly high school dramas, this drama focuses on not just romance but also finding yourself, job hunting, the position that many college students find themselves in when they are confused about where they fit in society and what society expects of them.

kou shibasaki does an AMAZING job as a deaf, sassy musician, and satoshi tsumabuki plays such a cool but warm guy that any girl would love to have as their lover. plus, for the both of them to learn and master all that sign language is not easy!

love it from 1st ep, although i dont really like e leading actress (e deaf n e mute 1), coz i think her acting is not really that good n also her face is not that pretty, there r lot more prettier n talented n hence better acting actress they can choose from i think, but anyway really enjoy watching it till e end, love every moment of it! i only love watching those 2 leading actor/ess while e remaining supporting actor/ess - i dont really care

As from my comment page: Loved it! EVERY EPISODE! This DORAMA has more of a college theme to it so I felt really comfortable watching it and feeling the same college pressures and college environment that they were going through! The characters are REALLY well done and you can't help but fall in love with Sae's eccentricities. This DORAMA has also made me a huge fan of Satoshi Tsumabuki, what a great actor!
7. phlargo
Not to be missed! Beautiful story of caregiving (mostly emotional) and understanding disability, akin to Beautiful Life. Tsumabuki Satoshi is awesome. Shibasaki Kou also very good, if a little thin (actingwise) at times. Great directing! Generally forgettable plot - overuse of drama cliches. Screenplay is only so-so. Character design leaves a little to be desired in some of the supporting roles.
8. Shiva_K
The drama starts really well and it's really addicting, but as the episodes are passing by the plot gets muddle up, especially because Shibasaki Kou's character is so unsure that is pretty annoying sometimes. Despite this, the drama is great, I've like very much how they tackle many topics. And of course the acting is excellent, especially Shibasaki Kou & Satoshi Tsumabuki's.
9. ruisu
This was the first JDorama I saw. I downloaded it by accident, thinking it was an English movie. I wound up watching the first three episodes and really felt for the characters. One hungover day, I found myself unable to move from bed and watched the entire series, it was great. Turned an awful day into a very nice one. And now I'm hooked on JDorama's...All thanks to Orange Days!
10. Azn_Rayver
I was inspired by Satoshi Tsumabuki and his character. The way he acted and just his warm expressions made this drama really enjoyable. Don't forget about Kou Shibasaki's great performance showing she really has talent playing piano, violin, and conversing in sign language. Just amazing. Two actors I'd love to see again, especially Kou Shibasaki.
11. Kitsuchi
This show is amazing. Great and touching. I think the actors are really good in this show. I even got to learn some sign language myself when the actors were talking to the deaf Sae. It's interesting and you get to learn a bit about how deaf people can feel. It's good and sad, but the ending turned out good at least ^_^. I recommend it!
12. kotoko
i love this story for its abt young adults. really touching. and Shibasaki's acting is really wonderful. love the setting in an Uni, reminds me of school life. and maybe allow us to think abt some unfortunate pple ard us as well.

love the OST as well!

ps: did anyone notice Kashiwabara Takashi is in this show as well?
13. eosforo
I must say the end was really forced down. It became sooo differente from all the rest, I mean, the last 2, 3 episodes that made me angry. It came down to a hard-stiffened soap opera, deep and confuse in a wy that was too much for the rest of the aura of the serie. I really was bad.... but the rest saves on top 10. Great
14. darc_blade
Without a doubt, one of the best college dramas. (if not the only one) Kou Shibasaki's performance is out of this world. Kai gives a very emotional performance. The other characters add great flavors to the drama as they are not exactly the coolest or the most biggest losers. Just normal people that become great friends.
15. AngelXing
I absolutely loved everything about this drama. It not only made me cry buckets but it also left me feeling good by the end of the last series. Somehow, it makes you appreciate and see things in a different perspective and you wished that you had someone like Tsumabuki Satoshi to be by your side....SiGhH....Loved it!!
16. simpletoad
This drama really tugged at my heartstrings. Tsumabuki Satoshi is such a talented actor!Plus, its ending is one of the best ever, so you don't have to worry about bad wrapping up of the story. The OST is really good and the way the show features Orange Range's Shanghai Honey will get you addicted to the song.

A very light but heart warming and touching dorama. I Loved it. Satoshi and Kou were just great together. I felt in love with both of the characters. The dorama depicted the college students starting to take on new responsibilities about future while teasuring their last bits carefree days very well.

After detaching from Jdorama since 2001, one of the first dorama I watched since I start picking up again in 2007 is actually Orange Days. One of the best I have watched so far. Highly recommended. Because of this I got to know Kou and Satoshi. Really lovely couple (plus good looking too).
21. Tatakau
I really enjoyed this, watched it all in one go (what a long night that was) How the end was handled really annoyed me and sadly thats my after thought of this drama, Sae and Kai doing their own thing through one way or antother was a cheap way to try and get emotions out of the viewer
22. sawadasmile
absolutely amazing. the chemistry between tsumabuki satoshi and shibasaki kou as kai and sae was undeniably strong. this drama made me cry, smile, and really hit close to home because it touches upon many themes that i see around me in everyday life... i highly recommend it. :)

This is one of my favourite dramas. It isnt very funny, but its impossible not to fall in love with it. The story is amazing, the actors are great and beautiful.

This drama is so incredible. The acting is phenomenal. Everyone did a wonderful job. The chemistry between Kai and Sae is great. There are so many depths and layers to each of them. It almosts seems as if they are real life couple. Truly amazing and touching drama.

The first episode didn't get me hooked.. but after watching a couple of episodes.. it got better and better until it became unforgettable. A story about a deaf girl and a college guy, didn't think it could be so funny and enjoyable. It's really a feel good dorama.

The best 2004 drama ever! I hooked when I watch the first epi and end up watch the rest of the series without sub! Very heart-warming and touching drama. The great story combine with very nice theme song and the background music. Definately MUST WATCH DRAMA!

Reminding us how important our memories are and how much we value the trust we place on those we care about the most -- this series is wonderfully subdued and beautifully scripted with a soundtrack that's above the vast majority of Japanese dramas.

The story was captivating, after I watched the first episode subbed, I went and downloaded the rest unsubbed just because I couldn't stand waiting. The characters are great, and I learned not only a lot of Japanese, but some sign language as well.
