Yu Fujii is a brilliant physician working at a university hospital in Tokyo. After years of working in an intense atmosphere and dealing with complex relationships, she has come to think that emotions are unnecessary in medical care. What's necessary are the latest equipment and skills. But when she comes across her former teacher Toshie Kawada, Yu is reminded of why she wanted to become a doctor.
Feeling uncomfortable with her present self, Yu decides to transfer to a clinic on Teuri Island in Hokkaido to discover herself - an offer she received from Toshie. She is ready to leave her boyfriend Tomoya and her career as a university hospital doctor behind.
What she finds on the island is a clinic with insufficient equipment, islanders who regard her as an outsider, and her limits as a doctor.
But soon, the islanders come to recognize Yu's abilities and start to support her. Of the many islanders, Yu becomes especially close with Katsuyuki Shibata, who works at the town hall. When Katsuyuki's terminally ill wife says she wishes to die on the island, Yu is there to support them. It doesn't take long for Katsuyuki's feelings toward Yu to change to love.
Yu's fiancé Tomoya studies for the bar exam while he works at a law firm. He still has feelings for Yu, so decides to visit her on the island. |
