Synopsis
Since his father passed away six years ago, Shimao Suzuki has taken over the family business, working diligently at their factory with his mother Aiko and a couple of employees. Though not wealthy, Shimao, Aiko, and Shimao's sister Mariko are satisfied with their life.

One day, Shimao draws a raffle at a local shopping mall and wins a trip for two to Hawaii. He takes his mother, and there he meets a beautiful girl, Kaori Shirakawa, and a young and brilliant entrepreneurial president of Frontier, an up-and-coming IT firm, Toru Takayanagi. Shimao immediately falls in love with Kaori, who has a friendly and warm personality.

Shimao and Aiko come home to find the factory in chaos. The accountant has embezzled the company's money, causing them to go bankrupt. Aiko develops a heart disease and is hospitalized. She needs a heart transplant, but the Suzukis can't afford the medical costs. Before Shimao can come up with a way to clear their debts, Aiko passes away. Shimao and Mariko can do nothing but cry. That's when Shimao remembers what Toru told him in Hawaii. "When you're in trouble, come to me." The following day, Shimao finds himself standing in front of the towering building where Frontier is based. What will be waiting for Shimao inside?

1. Brilliant Series. [Rating: 10/10]
I've personally watched a wide array of Dramas: different casts, different settings, different genres...and all I have to say is - Koi ni Ochitara has it all, and it excels all-around.

The cast may not be as renowned as casts from other, more popular series, but they all, and I mean every single one of them, plays out their role perfectly. Without spoiling much content for readers out there, this series simply asks you: should you input your personal character and morals into business dealings? What is more important, being a faithful / honest person or bringing in the maximum revenue for your firm?

Although the conclusion was very "Hollywood-isque" cliche where the people who tried hard to change for the better all ended up being well off, the whole ordeal from the main protagonist's viewpoint is extremely insightful, and the drama itself constantly throws out questions for viewers to answer themselves.

All in all, this series can either be appreciated by casual viewers who want some comedy / romance, or viewers that like to dig deeper into the story and think about concepts which would relate to real-life situations. As for me, it reminded me of how cruel, harsh, and unforgiving it is in order for any business to succeed, and sometimes, a good blend of both personal good-will and a cold-shrug from the shoulder are both necessary.

Oh, and on a technical aspect, this drama is probably the most well-directed and camera-worked I've seen thus far.

2. Enjoyable dorama [Rating: 8/10]
Not a fan of Kusanagi Tsuyoshi but I enjoyed Tsutsumi Shinichi
's acting. Overall, the show is watchable, with some good issues being mentioned, such as, to what extent will one go to be rich. And, the higher you climb, the harder you'll fall.

My only problem with this dorama is that Kusanagi's character's supposed fantastic IT programming skills seem incredibly ridiculous. But of cos, this is a dorama and everything is always sensationalised so I can't blame the writers and producers in overdoing his supposed amazing programming skills.

Oh yes, I also noticed a familiar caucasian face in this dorama. The actor who acted as a sports star in Last Christmas appears as a prolific opera singer here. Somehow, I couldn't quite picture him as this opera singer character cos i've already gotten a deep impression of him from Last Christmas.

I'm glad that the dorama has a happy ending for all although I felt that the ending looked kind of rushed. Otherwise, it's a watchable dorama.

3. meaningful but ... [Rating: 7/10]
alright, i dislike the plot. Why the drastic change in "Island" character?? the story seems to rush his character, and change him over night. He was once a sincere, warm, compasionate guy before they turned him drastically to this evelish, greed-comsumed "island", and then turned him (again) to his old self, only this time, he is wiser, has learned his lesson in a harsh way. Alrite, I got the lesson, the message is well delivered, but look what they have forcedly done to "island" character.
Actually, I rather scarifice the perfect ending for not so perfect one, since it seems that the ending was sandwiched only for the sake of being 'perfect'.
Saying all those things above doesnt mean that this isnt a recommended dorama. the casts are superb.

4. Kusanagi Is PERFECT! [Rating: 9/10]
I loved this drama, it was funny and compelling all together!!!
The only thing that bothers me about the drama is when Tsuyoshi's character finally realizes what became of his personality, after being fired from the company. I mean that he does a great transaction of going from his kind self to mean and stiff, but then mean to depressed made the characters power drop. You don't see that being fired does make you lose everything, and the character realizes that AFTER he's fired...

Other than that, it's a wonderful story, I love it and would watch it again. I also love Crystal Kay's song for this drama, although it's coincident that the drama has the same title as the song...

5. Impressive [Rating: 10/10]
Great acting by Kusanagi Tsuyoshi (SMAP), Tsunami Shinichi (Good Luck!!), Tanihara Shosuke (Gokusen 2), and other powerful casts, along with exceptional sound, camerawork, and a great story with one twist after another in second half of the series certainly makes this the best dorama of Spring '05.
"It's written Island's Shima, and Otoko", change in Shimao's character is excellently portrayed by Kusanagi Tsuyoshi.
This dorama is certainly a must see.

6. When I fall yawning [Rating: 6/10]
This drama has the artificial flavor of industrially manufactured products. The story is a collection of refurbished old ideas that unfold at a metronome beat, and the scenes are shot with almost aseptic symetry. Kusanagi has little to offer besides his name, and with his limited acting abilities and emotional range, he can only stand dwarfed by Tsutsumi's screen presence.

Great stuff, watch how "Island" changes from good to evil. Has a great cast, both male and female. No dreadful relationships. Internet company, everything feels fresh.

I really want to visit that bar: "hai - service" food n drinks for free! =D

Excellent drama. Definitely on my must see list.

Suzuki Shimao's actor was a little wooden at times, but it was made up for by a superb supporting cast (his sister, the other execs and the founder of Frontier!!) - generally great acting in this one!

The intro is probably second best only to (or even on par with) Orange Days for getting you into the mood for the Drama.

I'm actually going to keep my review brief - you should watch it. I don't give out 10s easily and if I do, it means I am giving my strongest recommendation to enjoy it if you haven't see it before. I really liked the direction and writing.

The music got me really excited. Like Odoru... when something was going to happen or change, the music got you excited and ready for it. One of the few dramas that had me humming the melody and thinking about the action.

And for the guys out there - it's chock full of very attractive womens :) Kaori is positively yummy. Lots of other cuties in here too. Enjoy!

Not sure why the english title is called "When I fall in love" as this is not a love story, but rather a climb the corporate ladder and big business type story - with a bit of romance thrown in. Entertaining enough and I liked that everyone got what they wanted and deserved in the end! So many Jdramas now have disappointing endings, but not this one. Likeable characters that you root for to raise up and win in the end... and they do! Satisfying!
3. Comments by arglborps [Rating: 8/10]
I still thing that the title is about as non related to the movie as possible. This drama really isn't about love, but it is very much about basic values and what we think is important in life. I also liked that the main character himself was so far from perfect.

Kusanagi is a really convincing and brilliant actor as always. He should stop singing out of tune and stick with his real talent | acting.

incredible story. something new and refreshing. tsutsumi shinichi fits perfectly the role as a company president! kusanagi tsuyoshi tells us about important things in life on the basis of some examples. it's also interesting to see how suzuki's character changes during the story. of course there is a happy end and a story message... This my first Tsuyoshi drama. I've only watched the first episode and I thought it was amazing! The visual direction of scenes feels gimmicky and maybe annoying to some ppl but I like it! It's kind of interesting to see in a drama. The characters are great and Kimura Yoshino's acting was great. The guy that plays Takayanagi is the best actor in this series.
6. Comments by IniQx [Rating: 5/10]
This drama started off really slow & boring. You'll need alot of patience to watch through all the episodes. It made taking over companies, becoming the CEO & starting a new company from scratch seem like child's play. And as usual, the bad always turn good & the good, turn angels. Thank god the story plot took a better turn at the end.
7. Comments by jade_frost [Rating: 8/10]
Highly entertaining and funny. Strong cast and script though the last ep kinda lagged. Possibly my favourite drama of Spring 2005. Tsuyoshi Kusanagi has always been stereotyped as the eternal optimist cum do-gooder and done that role to death, but Suzuki Shimao suits him just fine (besides his role in Team).
8. Comments by xiong_here [Rating: 8/10]
My second Kusanagi Tsuyoshi series and it was just as enjoyable! The story kind of has it weak parts but it manages to pull out ahead towards the end. Some parts of the story could've been developed better and some characters could've used my fleshing out. Other then that the DORAMA was alright.

June 2005: This drama has a GREAT cast, some of the best actors and actresses willing to be the supporting cast, so we can see some good acting in this. The plot is abit off, but still a funny show to watch, this is my fave drama of the season. And the theme song by Crystal Kay is so catchy~
10. Comments by kaonashi [Rating: 7/10]
Presumably partly inspired by the old American movie "Secret of my success" with M J Fox. It's a well casted drama with a nice theme song but the story doesn't offer anything out of the ordinary. In other words, what you see in this drama you've already seen several times before.
11. Comments by Milano [Rating: 8/10]
Interesting. I don't like Kusanagi very much, in this drama my favourite characters are Tsutsumi and Nao.
I am italian and the episode with the italian opera singer is totally silly... the italian words seems translated from japanese to italian with google.
12. Comments by sucigam [Rating: 8/10]
This is more an adult oriented show with the major themes revolving around business ethics. It reeks of cliches at times and I wonder if tsuyoshi was the right choice as lead but still a breath of fresh air if you are looking for a different style of drama.
13. Comments by warren.mcclendon [Rating: 8/10]
Very realistic when they are showing his love for IT and his dedication to helping the company with his skills. But his rise thru the ranks is like a normal employee career path on speed. His rise and fall and partial re-rise is completelly unrealistic.
14. Comments by cheeqo [Rating: 7/10]
a bit too rushed. can be expected from a tokyo university graduate. why go all the trouble working for someone else when he has already got such a remarkable IT skills.Tsuyoshi can't act, takayanagi guy's better. Good ending though. loved it.

Touching and inspiring! There needs to be more dramas like this one. I immediately connected with the main characters and the overall theme. This is one of the best of the new crop that somehow feels like a throwback to an old formula.

Really talented ensemble cast and interesting story of success and failure. Also, wins the prize for drama that has nothing to do with its title. XD Tsusumi Shinichi, Tanihara Shosuke, Yamamoto Koji, Kimura Yoshino...I love 'em so much. <3

A rags to riches morality tale. Entertaining in an expected way...the cast ensemble was good with special marks to Tsuyoshi Kusanagi and Nao Matsushita...a darling with a gorgeous smile. Nothing special but somehow addicting...

Great drama. Most of the cast are newbies, it's their 1st big role... or at least, they are newbies to me. :D

The story was full of loopholes, Kunasagi's role was quite unrealistic and badly written. Tsutsumi Shinichi was the only one that kept me through the show, sadly.

I like the whole story, very nice. Tsuyoshi acted as a kind-hearted man to a hard-hearted person. He looks sort of scary to me when he was hard-hearted..

Amazingly, Koi ni Ochitara manages to pull off an old theme in a new setting. It's bold, touching, and altogether inspiring - something that I've found lacking in some of the newer dramas.
