Youth - that's what this movie is about. An escape from tuition classes during the summer vacation brought them together. From knowing nothing about playing instruments & reading musical notes, this group of school girls (& one boy) developed a passion for jazz & formed a Big Band called, Swing Girls. Familiar faces in this movie are, Takenaka Naoto (from Good Luck!! & Okusama wa Majo) who plays a teacher who taught the girls the essence of Jazz when he can't even play the saxophone after 3 years of trying. Ninomiya Kazunari, (from Stand Up!!) the only guy in the band and Shiraishi Miho, (from Orange Days & HOTMAN II) the teacher of the classical band in the school. |

Oct 2005: The actors of this drama had to learn how to play the instrument from zero, thats why their performances had the 'original' flavour and we can see that they put a lot of effort in this. Ueno Juri really shines in this movie. The movie quite long, and kinda dragged in the middle, however its fun to watch. |

Didn't like this movie very much. Felt somewhat disorganized and haphazardly put together. Had an OK plot and acceptable acting performances but nothing too special about this one. Quite boring for 2 hours...yawn |

Very fun movie! Ueno Juri is so cute and weird here <3 I think it's cool how they learned to play the instruments in reality. I like how it was for a performance rather than for a competition which will probably be the normal plot. |

A quirky story that stars Ueno and Hiraoka as the two ambitious leads who attempt to form their own big band. And on that level, it succeeds in providing light entertain and solid, if a little overdone, acting. The movie used a familiar plot template with the characters meeting several, although very minor (even by japanese cinema standards), hurdles along the way. I was almost able to predict when these were going to occur as the movie progressed. But that says more about my own decreasing interest in feel good Japanese teenage movies than it does the movie, which is really quite enjoyable. An above-average youth drama which rivals the waterboys movie for popularity and star power. |

Quite a nice movie, I like Big Band music especially since last year's Australian Idol (Anyone from Australia would know what I'm talking about). But I can't seem to shake this feeling that the person who wrote or directed this movie must have worked on Water Boys as well. These two movies seem to have a sort of similar feeling to it, although the story lines not exactly the same, it is ultimately about the underdog team making it big in the end. |
