1. Another Award-winning performance by Kanno Miho! [Rating: 10/10]
I suppose not many people like this drama because of the generally depressing story and the initially unlikable (even nasty) character played by Kanno Miho. This is not one of those feel-good type of dramas that leave you all fuzzy and warm inside, but is instead a brutally honest character-driven drama about the almost unbearable fate suffered by its main character.

Kanno Miho again confirms her reputation as the Queen of Gloom and Doom (TM) by her award-winning performance (her performance in this show won her the best actress award in the Japanese Drama Academy Awards in 2000) as the lonely and vengeful Tohno Ririka, who was abandoned when she was a baby, grew up in an abusive orphanage, and ended up as a nursery school teacher plotting sweet revenge on the unloving world that abandoned her. But her road to revenge and self-destruction was obstructed by a seeming stranger who rescued her from suicide attempt and went on to support and encourage her through written correspondence...

While there aren't a lot of tear-jerking moments in this drama, it's nevertheless a moving statement about one unfortunate soul's journey through loneliness and despair, played to gloomy perfection by Kanno Miho. She even sang the very addictive theme song "Zoo"! Highly recommended!

Ai wo Kudasai is the very first J-dorama that I watched, and probably the one that got me into other Japanese dramas. Ai wo Kudasai, really hits the drama-o-meter pretty high. The storyline is depressing for the most part and unlike others dramas, it doesn't contain humor. This is overall, only for people who likes to see sad dramatic scenarios till' they cry. Nonetheless, it's still outstanding. Miho Kanno really did a good work on how to portray a lonely-depressive individual. Ai wo Kudasai also has a cool theme song called, Zoo (by, Echoes), with ballad acoustic guitar strings accompanied by the slow-melodic piano that perfectly fits the drama's essence, which is the main protagonist, Syuka Hasui, in deep vain wishing please give her love/relief.

I think this drama is also trying to imply a lesson about hope; never give up no matter what or how worst matters get. I will confess that I even cried at some of the most dramatic scenes of the series.

Ai wo Kudasai is so awesome, if only I could see it I would! ^_^' However, I would only recommend, Ai wo Kudasai, for mature audiences, otherwise, younger viewers might find it boring or inappropriate for them. ^_^

3. Not much, only to pass the time [Rating: 7/10]
Less than what I expect from such talent because:
-There's no buildup to the eventual relationship between Kanno and Ito;
-Eguchi's influence is overpushed, as is the conflict between Miho and her father (actor = Kazuyoshi Kushida).
I had actually turned off the TV in 2000 when this came out and only recently took the time to watch it in its entirety from rentals.
The ending is good, but at the same time disappointing. Seems to me as unlike Kono Yo no Hate, these guys are just happy to be themselves and there's no reflection on what the relationship means to both.

5. Quite a dark drama [Rating: 5/10]
I like the ending but the process was a bit draggy. Ito Hideaki had to act the role of the reserve player. So poor thing!

Kanno Miho was great in this. By the end of the series, I feel like I know intricately all kinds of things about what Ririka (Kanno Miho) is like as a person, and the pains and transformations she went through. I didn't realize what a star she is until now.

As for the series itself... There was no especially powerful insights for me. Despite being a bit repetitive and slow, and Rirka dwelling on her loneliness and vengefulness for quite some time, the dialogue and people felt genuine and sincere, and there were also some touching moments. By the end, I felt it had some healing effects for me. I would recommend this for those who have trouble coming to terms with their misfortunes or loneliness, but it can be a chore for those who have no such problem. It can be quite depressing at times.

Have you ever seen a picture of a lit-up candle on a pitch-black background? Well, that visual image came to my mind as I was looking for the best way to describe this dorama without giving away too many details: at first (and for the biggest part of the episodes), the darkness is so thick it's almost unbearable; but then, slowly but surely, a faint light can be seen and, as we approach the ending, the light shines bright and warm and the darkness is vanquished. Heartwarming story, great performance - as usual - by Kanno Miho, very good direction and script, nice and catchy soundtrack and score. Oh, and a special mention for Fubuki Jun: she's always excellent! 10/10

Then, when she least expected, love comes to her in a most surprising but beautiful way..

Despite the fact that I personally just can't stand Hideaki Ito, this drama really caught my attention.

I did cry at some scenes, really. This drama also turned me into a Miho Kanno fan immediately she's not only a pretty face she's an extraordinary actress.

This drama is a bit on the slow & sad side but I liked Ito Hideaki in this drama. He acted as the long suffering supporter of Kanno Miho. Good performance. Also starring Eguchi Yosuke of All under One Roof.

This was the first dorama I've seen. But just one episode so I can't really tell. But I liked the acting of Miho Kanno and perhaps I'll be able to get it one day. Just thought it would be worth for an entry ^-^

Tocuhing yet 'dark'. Kanno acted as a girl who's struggling to live with the help of her 'penpal' Motojiro. She's been searching for her real father & true love which in the end.....[:hoho:]

Unusual plot with very true pyschological issues, a tad too draggy with repeated flashbacks and dialogues, delivery did not manage to make me sympathise with lead actress much.

Heart-touching!!! I got a tight feeling in the throat while watching the last two episodes. Kanno Miho was brilliant, but the story is sometimes too elongated.

Pretty alright, keeps u wanting to know what happens next. But her melancholy is quite disheartening and boring. Hideaki Ito keeps things going tho'

The theme of this drama is a bit dark and weird for my taste, however the theme song "Ai wo Kudasai" is notably pleasant.
