Synopsis
Tsubasa Hikoichi is a yakuza underling who runs a loan shark operation in Roppongi. Hikoichi is brutal and efficient, and has no compunction about cheating the weak and poor out of their hard-earned money. When Hikoichi's boss dies, his replacement, Takayama Gensuke, wants the young hood to prepare himself for an executive position, and orders Hikoichi, along with other subordinate bosses, to get a job in an elderly care facility. Suffice it to say, the position isn't what Hikoichi expected it to be...

1. Chivalry is (not) dead? [Rating: 8/10]
Such an odd combination-yakuza and the elderly-with surprisingly good results (I watched the whole thing in one day). It can be funny as tough yakuza try to deal with difficult elderly people, but it touches on some deep and troublesome issues related to aging in Japan. Hikoichi takes a few episodes to get to know and like, though he never quite loses his attitude, so no unrealistic character changes there. Also includes: determined elementary school boy, high power business woman with a secret, powerful female yakuza, and a bunch of troublesome elderly people going about their lives in a care facility. And an odd theme of "chivalry." Note: I would recommend a tiny bit of research on yakuza to help understand gang structure, names, "ninkyo" (chivalry), etc.

2. SUPRISED [Rating: 9/10]
I didn`t really expect much from this drama despite the hype but once I started watching it, I couldn`t stop..I was really pleased and suprised with the acting from Kusanagi tsuyoshi and other casts such as Kuroki Meisa and Natsukawa Yui who added a touch of brilliance to the dorama. The storyline was a flow of events so never one pattern and had both serious and funny parts which combined well to polish off a really decent warm dorama! RATED!

The basic premise is dumb (a group of Yakuza work in an old folks' home) but this was one of the most involving and sometimes intelligent and realistic doramas I've seen. It is at its best when it deals with the consequences of old age and dementia on people and their friends and family. This is done in a considered and thankfully non-overly sentimental way. Also, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi and Natsukawa Yui (as ever) are both excellent and their (and her son's) problems and relationships where handled expertly. The Yakuza part of the show was just silly. This isn't helped by the fact that most of them where played by non-acting interchangeable pretty-boys (and one non-acting pretty-girl). I've never seen a bigger bunch of wimps in my life. There's no way they could survive a fight with a rival gang, in fact I think some of them would be lucky to survive a particularly strenuous bowel movement.

Yakuza + Helper, oh god, it would be a bad combination. After first episode i just, What??? What the hell are they trying to make?? I just can't believe why this drama have a huge rating in japan. But i realize i must calm down, relax, and enjoy the show. It turn out to be a good drama. This the second time i watched Tsuyoshi after boku no aruku michi (Poorly with the same yellow shirt) and i became more respect to him. His really different and manly. Also kuroki-chan, she's always beautiful, naka riisa too. But the other yakuza are useless especially mikya and kurosawa. They don't look like yakuza, tsuyoshi at least have a killer eyes, but this two man doesn't have anyting. If they used a different cast, maybe i will give nine or ten points.
Theme song: Sotto Kyutto [SMAP] + All My Soul: 10 (Especially all my soul, my favourite song, they also have Smells like All my soul...LOL)

Ironically, in this series the Yakuza's, which are known to have been abandoned or have lost their parents from an early age, are sent to train in an institution for the elderly where the grandpa's and grandma's there are also abandoned by their own children. Some episodes can really make you emotional, special mention to episode 9. As for the ending, I had a feeling it would end that way since most occupational jdramas do, but the leadership position came in as a surprise. A very nice performance from Kusanagi Tsuyoshi.

Well,, this is a dorama definitely worth watching as the cast is good with the main role played by Kusanagi Tsuyoshi (SMAP). It has both serious and funny bits so well balanced and th ending is decent too so I really would recommend this to anyone thinking about watching it.!!!!!

I would give it a 10 if not only for the confusing and weak ending which I felt it had. But i think the story is great and Kusanagi is great in this one. I am looking forward to see more of his craft in the future. Still, highly recommended!

Yakuza Boss Kuroki Meisa is just awesome. It's almost worth watching just for her, but lucky for us, we get treated to an action packed, intriguing story, too.

This drama actually has pretty good rating in Japan but I found the plot was a bit dark and depressing. Still very good acting and story over all.

Pretty good series, Natsukawa was excellent. The music was ok, I'm not a huge fan of SMAP, but the gospel-like music was interesting.

Meisa is my new eye candy of the week. Story is engrossing -- definite cliffhangers and sensible plot. Wish the ending was peppier.

This jdrama is better than many dramas in top 10 here on JDorama. This is because of the mix between ninkyo dintai and care taking the elderly.
The ninkyo are portrait in a realistic way and the ninkyo dintai situation also talks about the difficulties they have in nowadays Japan.
Matsudaira Ken as Takayama Gensuke (the boss) I liked very much - he really is the BOSS.
Kusanagi Tsuyoshi as Tsubasa Hikoichi couldn't be replaced by anyone in this role - if not for him, the drama wouldn't have the ninkyno feeling. He's a great actor!.
Last, but not least, Natsukawa Yui as Hatori Akira is great in the role of tough business woman - I loved how she played in Kekkon Dekinai Otoko - and here she's radiating. Without her the drama wouldn't be drama.
Great jdrama - worth watching 100%!
