1. Not your typical dorama [Rating: 10/10]
Not your typical dorama, but if you are ready to accept a few things, you will absolutely love it:
- Not a faced-paced action-packed dorama. Everything is subtle, set in the everyday life.
- The best acting I've seen in any dorama so far. Great acting from Abe Hiroshi and Yamaguchi Tomoko is no surprise, but others less famous like Miyazaki Aoi, You or Nishida Toshiyuki really impress. It is clear that the outstanding acting is something that was fostered by the director, who's filming as if he was a fly on the wall, letting the actors bring life to their characters
- The story grows on you, and you find yourself eager to see what's coming next, and this is done without any artifice (no cliff-hangers). You come to enjoy the life of the characters and wanting to know what they are going to do next.
- A very realistic story, all characters make sense
- Real humor, humor from situations and everyday life

Definitely a recommended watch for anybody. Even if you are most attracted by modern fast-paced series, I would still recommend to give it a try, go through the first 2 episodes and then make a decision. By the time you finish the 10 episodes, some of these characters, and some of the best moments of the movie, will stay with you.

2. Surprisingly good! [Rating: 9/10]
Well acted family drama that is not over the top. Perhaps after watching so many Korean dramas lately, I find Japanese dramas refreshing again. Abe Hiroshi is always very good and he's in great form again playing a salaryman re-examining his relationship with his family and his father. Everyday life with family and work are shown realistically.

The last episode with Abe breaking down is as touching a moment as I can ever recall I've seen... just superb!

As has already been said, this is not the typical dorama: slow-paced, subtle, relaxing, minimal. The best acting I've ever seen so far: natural, as if you were gossiping other's lives from afar. Not many camera movements; almost all frames were static, which impregned the show with a silent and peaceful aura somehow. Short scenes not explaining anything in particular, but just showing someone's daily life, with their small little daily details. Background music just put everything together: slow, warm, perfect all the time. The show plays with the rational minds of the main characters, and the fairy world of kids and not so kids (do you believe in Kuuna?). It somehow reminded me to Miyazaki's superb films, always making the forest and its inhabitants almost another character, giving them the value they deserve so they don't go unnoticed (as it almost always happens in our "real world"). It's about ways of life, about knowing each other, about desires and feelings and ties and hopes and doubts and fears, but everything explained in a really subtle, even magical way. One of my favorite shows so far, that I would absolutely rewatch.

Now this is something different. This was directed by a movie director and has a totally different feel than any other drama I've ever seen. It feels completely like a movie, full of pointless scenes of everyday life that serve only to add mood. There's really no noticeable plot, but rather just a sequence of things that happen. And no actually drama either, but instead there is lots of internal emotional conflict that is left unspoken but that is entirely relatable to. It's all very subtle and rather genius, but it can't be left unsaid that this is exactly like a movie but with the one major exception that it happens to be ten episodes long. And it is slow, really slow. If there is anyone who likes slow paced moody things it would be me, but even I occasionally felt it hard to keep watching. Almost like I was out of motivation. Point is that this is some of the best, and most artistic television you will ever watch if you have the patience to bear with it.

I must say a very strange drama. Strange but good. All the acting was superb and the bits of comedy tossed in were perfectly timed. It's very difficult to get through that super long first episode, but once you get into episode 2 you start wanting more and more. It was a very nice story.

There's also just something about the way it's filmed that makes it feel different than most dramas. I really enjoyed it. It was a breath of fresh air.

The writer/director (Hirokazu Koreeda) made a movie "Still Walking" and this is very similar in style and feel to that. But as a drama, it just didn't work for me.
