Pretty much can't recommend this to anyone. I had actually already read the books that this was based on, and when I heard about it being dramatized, I was quite perplexed as to why anyone would think this to make a good drama. For someone who was studying Japanese, I couldn't recommend the books enough, they are incredibly funny and informative, but it's not the type of humor that works as a show. Furthermore, they just plain made every thing really really stupid here. To top it off, if you don't understand Japanese, none of these jokes will make any sense to you, let alone be funny. Also, I wanted to kill myself every single time one of these foreigners spoke Japanese, and that's probably half the show. So stay away from this unless you are studying Japanese, and then again, even if you are, still stay away!

riisa is a dream to watch. she has always had a charismatic screen presence, and in her bright outfits and gigantic hair bows and loud voice, you feel you can really learn something about the japanese as she teaches it. dont you wish you had a teacher like her?

I did learn a few things about the Japanese language I didn't know before, but this has one of the worst casts ever! I think they got the foreign "actors" off of a tour bus and the real Japanese actors weren't a whole lot better.

Uuuuhm... ok bad foreign """""actors""""" and not much of a sensible plot, but quite funny and enjoyable if one likes more quirky and slightly absurd stuff.

This reminded me of an old British comedy called Mind your Language. I'm sure I've seen a lot of those foreign "students" before on NHK world.

It's not a good drama by any means, but it's a fun one for us who are learning the language.
