Synopsis
Four schoolboys find themselves the last virgins left at school. During the summer holidays, a girl they knew as children eleven years ago, moves back to the neighborhood. Despite their childhood attraction to her, they realize she is a mere shadow of the "princess" they all thought they knew. This story of summer - love, friendship, school, family, the hypocrisy of adults, complications of life, experience and failure - is set in an everyday shopping district and shows the clumsiness of children who have developed a little later than their peers. It's a bright romantic comedy that both young and old can appreciate.

1. STAND UP and Do Something! [Rating: 7/10]
Right. To tell you frankly I am not a fan of sex comedies that I didnft even watch American Pie 1, 2 or 3. I saw some bits and I thought they werenft even funny at all. Hmm if they come up with another one, geeezz I donft know.

Unfortunately for me, gStand Up!!h here is what you could refer to as a teen sex comedy (uh oh). Funny coz I am forced to see this series because of the glamorous ensemble this show has to offer. It has like eight (8) recognizable and promising young actors from the Japanese entertainment industry. Most of them are those I am very fond of watching (that includes Suzuki and Tsukamoto).

The story revolves around four teenage boys and their uproaring obsessions with sex. When they find out that they are one of the last few virgins in school, after being humiliated by a bunch of kinky young school girls, they started their confusing fraternity of which they call gthe purity grouph -- they want to uphold purity and yet they wish so much to have their gfirst time.h Okay itfs understandable.

During the summer holidays, a girl whom they have known since childhood 11 years ago has come back to their neighborhood. Remembering their childhood attraction towards her, they realized she has become merely a shadow of the gprincessh they all have known her to be. Now in their seventeen (17) years, in the height of the summer holidays -- all-grown up yet with so much to learn. These five (5) good friends discover all over again the beauty of friendship, and the bright and hopeful future they have together.

Lead actor Ninomiya Kazunari, he plays Shohei -- babyish and a little insecure about himself, but he respects and loves his friends like no other. He falls for his schoolteacher who apparently admits that she would date anyone younger than her age. Anne Suzuki, she plays Chie. She is sensitive and optimistic, a lovely girl behind thick glasses and a rowdy appearance. She comes back to see his old friends for some secretive reasons. Then therefs Yamashita Tomohisa, he plays Ken-Ken, an honest and sensitive young man who has a weird fascination with railway transports. Despite coming from a broken family and the burdens of having a problematic mother -- he seem to be the most decent and mature of the four (4) boys. Kozi played by Oguri Shun, is the silent but sporty type. When it comes to girls, he canft seem to say things right to his dismay. He is the team captain of the local youth football club. Although he is a popular player who can pretty much attract any girl, his naivety towards the opposite sex makes him almost gullible and boring. Then therefs Narimiya Hiroki who plays the music-loving guy named Hayato, is the groupfs funny and outrageous character. He is obsessed with peeking at girlsf underwear, and he seems to be the most perverted of them all.

I am pleased to say that this isnft just like most cheap teen flicks I keep on seeing these days. It may seem very silly at times -- thanks to the boys doing some really ridiculous stuff in their quests to have their first experiences. But as the show progresses you start to get used to their silly ways and you begin to acknowledge their immaturity and flaws.

Story-wise, itfs a little different where they throw in all the jokes and silly stuff in the beginning and up towards the end; and unexpectedly the story turns upside down before it finishes. There is a sudden change of atmosphere as the story ends with a somber incident that could have a huge effect on the viewer. I believe the character development was quite good that regardless of how the ending turns up to be like, the audience is still pretty much involved with the characters. But I really think therefs something missing in the plot with regards to one significant incident in the storyfs latter part. Apparently it wasnft resolved properly. I believe they could have had a better and happier ending for it if they included something to fill up that hole.

But anyways, Ifm really happy I took the time to watch this. It isnft just seeing all these young actors in one drama series that makes it interesting; But it was a big bonus to see Anne Suzukifs acting prowess yet again. She truly is becoming one of the industryfs most brilliant young stars. Itfs amazing how well she handled such a complex and almost difficult role. Ninomiya Kazunari, after seeing him in his serious role in gThe Blue Lighth of which both him and Suzuki starred as brother and sister, it was a quite surprising to see how funny and infectious he can be in a comedic role.

To summarize, I think gStand Up!!h was quite a good series, not the best though, but it was able to tackle a sensitive subject without being too intimidating or insensitive. There are enough positive messages we could all get from this drama. Teenagers could misinterpret the message of the story, thatfs why it was given a rating for adults. However I think young teens should see this provided that they would be wise enough to understand the situations in the story, or better yet be accompanied by someone older.

gStand Up!!h celebrates the values of family, love, and friendship. Sex isnft the foundation of a relationship if youfre still clueless enough to understand. Love is wonderful and sacred, and it blesses anyone who values the true reason for it. gStand Uph for what is right, and youfd be thankful you did so.

2. this is looooonnng!!! [Rating: 10/10]
first up, i registered here just so i can tell people how awesome this dorama is. no, seriously. these are but my opinions so uhm, yeah... (was written right after i finished watching the last ep).

I had finished watching the dorama STAND UP! last night and words cannot express how much I loved the show. But Ill still try:

- If stand up was a person, I'll ask him to marry me and have my babies.
- Stand up! would make Akira Kurosawa proud and all the other Asian dramas feel puny and look crappy.
- In my next lifetime, I'd gladly reincarnate to beEStand Up!

I hope those gave justice to my feelings.

I don't normally watch TV series but this I can say- it's the best Asian drama I've seen by far. It's an eclectic blend of Japanese humor and teenage angst, mushy love and sexual undertonesE with hilarious yet profound lines thrown at the sides. They suit my taste very well and indeed, all the eleven episodes were worth watching.

Given that it had a power cast, I believe the drama would've faired as well even if other actors played the characters but it helped of course, that the lead roles were given to Nino (Shohei), YamaPi (Ken-Ken), Hiroki (Tayo), Shun (Ko) and Anne (Chie).

Arashi's Kazunari Ninomiya portrayed his part so awesomely, he should've won an acting award for it. Or maybe he didn't really have to internalize much for Sho-chan may be in many ways, similar to him. Bottomline is, one can't help but sympathize with and fall for the character especially his dorkiness and naivety. If prior to this, I liked Nino, his dark gums and Konseki, he definitely blew me away with Sho-chan and his eeehhh??".

Suzuki Anne was very convincing as the perky and youthful Chie, whom Ken-Ken and Sho eventually fell in love with. Seriously, I'll pay a million bucks to play her character. Many people may not be too amused with her but you have to give it to the girl for pulling it off.

Now I don't kid around when I say that I have cried in every single episode. Then again, I am naturally emotional and weep over the death of mosquitoes. But there really is something about how the story unfolded and how the characters realized their feelings that brought back so much memory.

Because I am such a fan of unrequited and unspoken love, too, the relationship between Shohei, Chie and Ken-Ken made it truly golden. Theirs reminded me of the Dawson-Joey-Pacey and Dao Ming Si-San Cai- Hua ze Lei love triangles and tell me, how can one not love that?

Stand Up! was a very honest depiction of the youth and their struggles to fight peer pressures (or give in to them). It talked about their curiosity, their frustrations, their victories and their friendships. Not only was it written incredibly well, the cinematography and visual style has also blown me away that I have vowed to make a show or a movie that'll level its greatness someday. Yes, it has owned me that much, i wonder what took it so long to come to my life.

So maybe this is but an overrated review of the series and my fangirl self has just taken over. And maybe someday I'll get to watch another show again that'll make me love my craft more. And maybe, just maybe, one of these days I'll stop listening to Konseki. But one thing I know for sure, amidst all the crap that TV throws our way, it brings joy to my heart that there are still masterpieces like Stand Up! which are so life-alteringly brilliant.

And for that, i'd remain a virgin.

~~

again, my opieenyens, people!! ENJOY!!

ps: i've watched this in a day. ahehehehe.

3. Turned out Better than I thought it would [Rating: 7/10]
Before even watching the drama, I was told that it was very much like the movie American Pie, where you have a group of boys with one common goal: getting laid before the end of the year. I figured it would be a good filler drama that would be at least entertaining, if nothing else.

I found it really hard to get into the drama, but by the time the six episode rolled by, I began to notice a slight shift in the attitudes of the characters. The drama became less and less like American Pie, and more like a morally sound drama. I began to enjoy the dynamic between the DB4 and the townfs people. I felt compassion for the boys and their views on love and gpurityh. By the end, I found the drama enjoyable, silly, and altogether sensible in its theme.

This drama is slowly helping me get over my dislike for Nino. His gEHHHHHH?!hfs are memorable and, in my opinion, hefs tied for first place as the best actor out of the four. Hefs tied with Narimiya Hiroki, who is a very versatile and convincing performer. Oguri Shun and Yamapi werenft exactly brilliant, but they passed for the roles required of them. Suzuki Anne was brilliant, as always, and I loved the random actors and actresses (Matsumoto Rio, Becky, Tsukamoto Takeshi, etc) who sprinkled random scenes with randomosity.

I would definitely recommend this drama if youfre looking for senselessc and yet sensiblec fun.

4. Nice! [Rating: 9/10]
I am stunned by Suzuki An's performance - to be able to see her bring out the character of Chie phase by phase made this dorama well worthwhile. I must say, not being a Yamapi fan much, I really did love the character of KenKen very much. Narimiya and Oguri made me crack up so many times and Nino's funny faces were too adorable! But sometimes, in the close-ups... whoa, some of these expressions were pretty scary!
Some one had previously commented that the drama was very "American Pie"-ish and I guess it is to a certain degree, but undercutting the apparent plot of 4 good friends working very hard to lose their virginity by the end of summer and meeting with a lot of bad luck, there is a theme of friendship and growth in this drama. You will see the boys transform in men, is not physically, then emotionally and mentally - which they find out is much more important. There are some quite suggestive scenes in this drama and if you are bothered by nudity and sexual references, then, I guess it would be better if you stayed away from this drama. But if you can handle it, then I must recommend "Stand UP!!" to you! And excellent plot with a very positive message, it will make you feel all fuzzy and warm-hearted. ^^

5. Stand Up - Really! [Rating: 3/10]
Okay, let's just get this out of the way - yes, I watched this because Ninomiya Kazunari and Oguri Shun were in it. Don't kill me, but I had no idea who YamaPi was at the time. Still don't like him that much. Anyway - ahem.
This drama - wow, what a letdown. Although I ususally stay away from these type of dramas, I thought I'd bear through it because of Oguri-san and Ninomiya-san. What a mistake! The story follows four boys, the last virgins in their schools, attempting to lose their virginity before high school is over. The first six episodes, while not horrible, are just moreover boring, and contain a little too much of hormone-driven boys. While I thought that there would be a turnaround starting in Episode 7, it led to a MAJOR disappointment in the last episode. I won't say what happenes, but the lesson I thought the boys learned at the end of the final episode was clearly NOT learned, as shown in the very, very end. Let's note the boys worshipping the condoms at the very end.
Anywho, even though the acting was substantial, if not exceptional at some parts, the plot was GREATLY lacking, and... well... horrible. And it really did ruin the entire show for me. 3/10

6. mediocre, last episodes were fun [Rating: 8/10]
StandUp is not as bad as you think it is once you finished watching the whole show. I must say, the only episodes worth watching was episode 7-11. If you do start watching from the begining, maybe you should do what i did, torturing your own eyes with pegs just in case you fall asleep. The first 6 episodes of this dorama was simply rubbish, shitty, full of crap. Really. From episode 7, you actually feel that this dorama actually does have a plot, -the first 6 episodes felt like random bits of everyday life put into a 45 minute show- but episode 7-11 comes to a more serious story with a solid plot revolving around the 5 friends, evenly shared. There were a lot of funny parts and a little touching moments. You would even probably wish that you had such friends in real life. The simply ignorant and quite cold Yamapi suddenly becomes sweet and shows how much he cares about his friends in the last 5 episodes. The ending was somehow fun but the condom thingi is just too weird. Ignoring the first 6 episodes, this dorama is fun, 8/10, but if you count the first six episodes i'm only going to give 5/10 coz there were only lust and no laughs, and... no story!!! Nino's acting was brilliant

i just spent the last five hours of my night watching most of this dorama. i have got to say though, it was time well spent. where to start? i think a part of me envies that sort of deeeeeep friendship with ppl that one has grown up with. watching this dorama was like living vicariously through the characters and all their happinesses and mishaps. though it's a "comedy" some scenes were so touching to a hopeless romantic like me that i cried, or felt so.....touched? lol i can't describe it. a bit of the perverted humor was overdone and almost unnecessary at the end [except to maybe tie the genres and bits of the plot together] but it did not detract from the overall messages. yes, there were quite a few messages and "happy lovey dovey" ones at that. i didn't quite know what to expect [yes i dloaded it for the pretty boys] and i was pleasantly surprised. it is a well thought out drama, and the characters are developped.

8. Just loveable :D [Rating: 10/10]
I'm not gonna say that "if you don't like this, obviously there's something wrong with you"... but really, those that judge this drama too hard are just being too judgemental. ^^;; It's nothing but FUN. It's not meant to be taken too seriously, otherwise it wouldn't be FUN. The four main guys (besides being hot >.>) have excellent, excellent chemistry, as if they'd truly all known each other that long. The plot is enjoyable, hentai or not, though it still has a fun feel to it. ^-^
This drama also has hidden messages too~ ^-^ Aside from the boys wanting to get laid all the time, I think it shows there is such a thing as growing up too fast. The proof is in the adults, as you notice them always trying to discipline their kids, but still acting childish (and just as hentai as them) otherwise. It's a fun youth drama that I think everyone should watch at least once, biases aside ^-^ I love it so much, myself :D

although i read many reviews on how this dorama was "pointless" and "disturbing" i have to say, i strongly disagree. Being this the 1st japanese dorama i watched, i must say it was very entertaining. I loved it. it was really enjoyable, funny and the romance was cute. I loved the cast, and it didnt hurt that they were hot, though that wasnt the reason i kept watching. :) it had a different story line then the doramas ive been recently watching, but i loved it nonetheless. If i hadnt liked this dorama as much as i did i would not have discovered the world of jdorama. it's all thanks to Stand up! that i am a true and dedicated fan of jdoramas. :) since then i have seen about 23 seasons of jdoramas and hope to see more. this dorama was truly a good watch in my opinion with a lot of hidden messages as well as comedic genius :) i do recommend it 100%

interesting.. have never seen a drama with this kind of plot before.. took a lot of risk to do ne.. but why it was so successful must be due to the stellar cast, ninomiya, yamapi, oguri, narimiya suzuki and the supporting cast.. all of them did great.. not a super plot though, what struck me most were the words used.. they really meant a lot.. to give a message to the audience kana? i would say credit should go to anne-chan.. she portrayed just the right image for a girl like chie.. and she did it really well.. another character that left me touched was ken-ken ne.. i somehow would prefer chie together with him.. maybe because i always believe that guys who know what they want always wins in the end.. but somehow.. well.. still great, i think.. <33

11. Fun, Lighthearted Drama [Rating: 8/10]
This was a fun series to watch though in the beginning I thought that it was quite boring and dull, it almost seemed like a Japanese re-make of "American Pie". Luckily though I was wrong, as the episodes progressed the characters had more depth to them and the storyline became much more interesting (ie not only about four boys wanting sex).

Anyway, instead of what I initially thought it would be about, it became more about friendship and love. ^_^ I wanted to watch this drama because I've enjoyed Oguri Shun in his other dramas so much, but instead I found that Yamashita Tomohisa as Ken-Ken was extremely adorable. I would recommend this drama for people who want something comical and cute to watch.

this story is the japanese version of 'american pie'. it's about 4 boys with completely different personalities, all trying to give up the 'doutei boys 4' title by the end of summer ^^;. there's sho, the timid gentle boy-next-door; ken-ken, the level-headed one with an obsession for railway transits; ko, the athletic semi-popular guy who cant seem to keep his cool in front of girls; the perverted utaya who cant stay decent for the life of him. :) this story has its flaws, but the main characters are wat makes this story amusing.

Some others may think this drama is pretty much stupid and pointless, but we are all entitled to our own opinions. And as for me, I liked this drama! It's one of the first ones I've ever watched, and it got me laughing in every episode. It has a poor plot, and yes, it is silly and quite pointless. But there is just a certain charm in this drama that got me hooked until the end.

The acting was mediocre; Nino, I think, is a great actor and should be in more of these quite interesting roles. YamaPi, I have to admit, was stiff in this drama and he wasn't as convincing. Narimiya Hiroki and Oguri Shun were good, and so was Anne Suzuki.

A Dorama specifically created for the teens. 4 virgin schoolboys trying to ditch away their virgin status, by trying all means and methods to get bed with girls. However, it always ends up nothing and i guess this is a moral dorama aiming at youngsters out there. Having casual sex with strangers or one who dont love is kinda morally incorrect. Guess nowadays youngsters take casual sex too lightly and that is probably why, this dorama is ever produced! Educating through dorama is simply one small step!

I watched Gokusen before this and Narimiya Hiroki and Oguri Shun are so different from their characters in that movie, which is to be expected; however, it was still surprising to see the total turnaround from tough delinquents to nerdy and lacking in confident guys.

If you like American Pie, you'll probably like this. If not, you probably won't. This drama wasn't particularly good and I'd count it among the worst ones I've watched with no real story to it aside from the fact that the 4 guys haven't had sex yet - if u can call that a story...

This show is corny... very corny! Its directing reminds me of IWGP. For those who likes stupid jokes, you must definitely watch this! This show is also filled with J-drama spoofs, from a look alike of Yangumi (Gokusen) to the Uncle-Auntie version of "102" Proposal. Very funny!

i thought this show was going to be one of the memorable teen flicks in jdorama industry but i was surprised to see what such a rubbish it has turn out to be.seriously i'm not a fan of the leading actors.however i have my eyes on oguri shun and narimiya hiroki because i've seen them before in 'gokusen'- an indeed a memorable and superb teen show.and i also have known suzuki an for her role in 'kindaichi 3' opposite matsujun few back years ago.she was very young at that times yet she managed to convince me what a promising young star she is.so i expected to see a very good performance here too.however as i said earlier, this dorama has turn out to be a real crap.everything was very weak.the storyline, the script and the casting.i couldn't see any point in this dorama, everything was circling in the very same thing that was their attempts of losing their virginity.it was boring and draggy especially the first half of the series.there was no growth in the characters and the story led us nowhere.it was apparently a dorama with lots of bit to laugh at and these lining of 'eye-candy' actors to look at.an indeed an immature and stupid show for me.however i must agreed that the second half of the series quite surprisingly enjoyable.i finally could see the thing they want to emphasize here that is the power of friendship but still not good enough for me.what i want to criticize the most here is what a very weak and talentless performance shown by each of the leading roles.i think YamaP is a real 'lamp post' here.he can't even act.no characteristic and growth.mark my word,he is a talentles actor with just a pretty face to sell.and for ninomiya, this is my first time seeing him acting.i've heard so much about what a great and promising actor he is.but sadly i can't see any of the evidence here.i think he is just a crap next to YamaP.he did shown some growth in his character but still he is just an ordinary actor to me,anybody can replace him anytime.and both narimiya and oguri did let me down.and i agreed that they should replace suzuki an with some other actress because eventhough she is full of talent but she doesn't suite the role here.we need somebody who is much more adorable, not supposely pretty/kawaii or something but exceptionally adorable.sorry an.

DROPPED. I started this drama when I was a teen, thinking I would get a good laugh out of this. I anticipated the stupidity. But ultimately, I gave up. I don't know what the exact motivation is for people who actually finished it, but for me.. as much as I liked the cast, I just couldn't understand the point of this drama. Though I think it would be a good one if you plan to just stare at [insert name here] the whole time...

Actually, just looking around now, I'm highly convinced that all the "good" comments and high ratings around me here are given by those who are loyal fans of one of the guys (maybe more). If you're going for plot, I wouldn't step here. This one was just a HUGE miss for me.

HOWEVER. I did like the movie version of this. It was a lot shorter anyway, so it was more bearable. Take a look at that instead if you find yourself liking the cast but can't stand episodes of BS.

the first time i attempted to watch this drama, i gave up at the first episode.

the second time i attempted, i gave up after watching half of the second episode.

but wow, am i glad that i attempted this drama a third time (this time jumping straight to the fifth episode)

this drama's episode 1-4 seriously s*cked big time i would give it a rating of 1/10.

however from episode 5 onwards, the drama finally picked up it's plot and got me addicted. I loved the interaction between the characters and was entertained by how loserly funny the 4 guys were. Great acting by pi, shun, nino and hiroki :) And suzuki anne of course!

so overall i give it a 7/10.

It's a great drama that challenges the meaning of love and sex. Try it! (just skip straight to episode 5 though)

interesting.. have never seen a drama with this kind of plot before.. took a lot of risk to do ne.. but why it was so successful must be due to the stellar cast, ninomiya, yamapi, oguri, narimiya suzuki and the supporting cast.. all of them did great.. not a super plot though, what struck me most were the words used.. they really meant a lot.. to give a message to the audience kana? i would say credit should go to anne-chan.. she portrayed just the right image for a girl like chie.. and she did it really well.. another character that left me touched was ken-ken ne.. i somehow would prefer chie together with him.. maybe because i always believe that guys who know what they want always wins in the end.. but somehow.. well.. still great, i think.. <33

Okay, this series can be funny. The most funny though was Ninomiya Kazunari's expressions and "EEHH?!"'s. But the story itself was a bit.. strange. I didn't feel like there were any story in the dorama at all. It's just about the four guys being virgin and wanting to get rid of it and so. But it begins to be a bit better at the end, were the real romance starts and some feelings take place in the dorama.
About the actors, they're absolutely good. As I said, Ninomiya Kazunari's expressions are hilarious and funny. And Narimiya Hiroki's acting is funny too. He's always excited and all.
I would highly recommend it to those who want to see a dorama with alot of humor. It's a funny dorama, involving romance, sweet guys and just humor ^_^.

A good light-hearted series that is mainly about friendship rather than sex as it is advertised as. In the beginning, when I had read the description for this series, I had thought that this was the Japanese version of "American Pie", but I was luckily mistaken. I actually would not have taken the time to watch this until I heard that it was a good series.

True, these are hormone-active teenage boys who want to enter "manhood", but as the series develops you see that they mature. I especially liked Ken-Ken, he was my favorite. ^_^ Anyway, I would recommend this series for anyone to watch, it's a good one for laughs. The four main boys did a great job in this collaboration.

it was THE dorama for me XDD i laughed A LOT, the actors were great, and .. awwh just adoreable!! :3

i've read some comments where others said that its boring, and has no story, well.. the story isnt about saving the world or such, but very funny and enjoyable how these clumsy boys try to get a girl. ^^
i've also found interesting the difference between japaneese and western love, their thinking about sexuality. XD

the parents were a little annoying to me, how they always did meet ups and worried a lot about their children's virginity.
but after all, its a very nice one <3 ^^

If it wasn't for the last 2 episodes I think I would have given this a 10. This drama has the kind of humor that I hope I never grow to old to appreciate and a great coming of age storyline to boot. This is probably Ninomiya's best performance for me so far, the guy is an incredible actor. I hope that everyone will look past the obvious fangirlism around this show and sees it for what it really is; a very good drama. Before writing this drama off as a stupid teen comedy, remember that this drama is made by the same genius behind critical favourites Sekai no Chuushin de and Trick!

Nino, YamaP, Oguri Shun and Narimiya are in it... and that's just about all the reasons one can have to watch it...
Stand UP!! is kind of the japanese version of American Pie... and its even less funny (the dorama is kind of annoying) the plot is reaaaaally bad... but the casting (the support roles included) are nice... Stand UP!! is one of those doramas that are good to watch when one doesnt have anythink else to do (and one is not in the mood to think a lot...)
Plain Plot... nothing thaaat original... good casting.. that sums up my impressions on this dorama...

Definitely not for adults! More for teens 12-20 dorama!

Educating through dorama is simply one small step!

ok, maybe im childish but I really like this dorama. i love funny doramas, and it is funny and i love well "romance" if you can call it that, but thats the good thing about this dorama. life's like that, love and sex and such things, it can be really confusing. you think you know what you want but then you realize that maybe you thought wrong.. But of course many things in this dorama are crazy and stupid, but the underlying thought is that insecurity and confusion and that is the reason why i love this dorama.

Very funny dorama! XDDD At the beginning it was a bit confusing to me, because it's so damn pretty senseless! XD~ I didn't like Nino as the maincharacter, even through he did well. But his 3 friends are jsut too aewsome. I loved Shun and I loved Nari! XDDD And YamaPi did a great job. Anne Suzuki as the female main character played well and I loved Takashi Tsukamoto in a side-role... *__*v

If you search something to roll off your chair laughing, definitely take this one!
15. Comments by dekatrain [Rating: 8/10]
I think it's unfair for people to simply label this drama "the japanese american pie" because i think it is more genuine and deserving than that. Anne Suzuki was the highlight for me, because as chie, she just added enough oddity to her character, that just watching her was interesting in itself...i think she proves that you don't have to be absolutely "kawaii" or some sort of pop idol to make it in japanese tv. Enjoyable, if a little frustrating at times...
16. Comments by fybabe [Rating: 7/10]
Quite sweet and cute. A bit draggy and stereotype near the end though.
I must say, quite an eye-candy cast, except Nino... BUT, he's the most memorable of them all! I think he put in the best and most natural effort of the 4 guys. Nino is a very good actor. Period. I like Yamapi as an 'idol' (and such a cute looker), but he's really dull as an actor. Shun was kind of 'invisible' here. I think Hiroki is best in Orange Days, he sort of overacts here.
17. Comments by megumi s. [Rating: 7/10]
it's not the most riveting drama, but it's a comedy! and i think a good one at that. some of it is outrageous, but the characters are all so funny in their own way, especially Narimiya Hiroki and Oguri Shun's characters. i gave it a high rating not because it's the best i have ever seen, but because if you approach watching it knowing not to take it seriously and just enjoy yourself, you'll really really like it. however be warned: it drags a bit.
18. Comments by aliceeatcow [Rating: 9/10]
this is one of my favorite doramas! it is funny, real, and a touch melodramatic. i feel like it really captures the awkward stage of being a teen and makes light of it while showing us what these boys are going through in their attempt to become men. it's so much more than it seems to be on the surface, so much better than just another teen dorama. give it a shot, you won't regret it! for full review, check out my site: www.clearblogs.com/arashi

I didnLt find it as funny as many people claim it to be, but i found interesting to see the point of view of the japanese for all those "american teen storys", and itLs really good, not the usual "iLm gonna bang a girl before i graduate and live happy ever after", itLs a more serious way to put the thing with lots of comedy combined.
Shaku Yumiko is very beatiful and has a very hot body for a japanese woman...great eye candy.
20. Comments by Hoshi [Rating: 6/10]
Personally I don't really find this drama interesting. It's all about boys wanting to lose their virginity asap. But the main cast was pretty good. I never doubt Nino's, Nari's and Oguri Shun's acting coz I've seen them in other dramas before. But Yamapi's kinda wooden here, maybe it's due to his character. There are some XXX scenes in there, so those help to perk things up a bit XD Still, the ending made me went 'duh...'
21. Comments by PaperCaged [Rating: 9/10]
I originally wanted to watch Stand Up!! just because Oguri Shun and Narimiya Hiroki were in it. But afterwards, I was glad I watched it because the four main character's journey was so fun. I haven't seen very many shows about a bunch of teen boys trying to get laid, haha. Usually the topic of sex is either nonexistent or very subtle in j-dramas, but here it was all out in the open. It made me laugh quite a bit.
22. Comments by Di@na [Rating: 10/10]
STAND UP!! my most favorite JDrama of all the time (probably because it was the first jdrama I ever watched when I was 16 years old). It is funny, entertaining and cute JDorama with very good actors! Every episode is interesting and the actors are just so unique (Nari, Ann, Shun, Yamapi and of course Nino who played awesome and proved that he is a great actor). YES, like I said, BEST JDorama I ever watched !
23. Comments by akane_MYV [Rating: 8/10]
I like the plot ....and all those actors, so handsome..they acted really well!!
Till now I haven't seen a drama about virginity, so it was interesting and at first I was curious.
At the end I got exciting...the matter with Chie shocked me. But somehow it was little bit predictable. I don't like the couple at the end...and sometimes it was boring. A funny drama but just watching one time is enough...haha~~
24. Comments by meiohsetsuna [Rating: 9/10]
A romantic comedy much like that of American Pie, only seen through the Japanese perspective. Four boys spend their summer in pursuit of women, in the hopes of loosing their virginity by the summer's end. An old childhood friend shows up out of nowhere, and she tends to spoil their well thought-out plans. Will they ever get laid? And will Chie ever tell them why she suddenly reappeared?
25. Comments by Susan [Rating: 9/10]
Stand up! This is not a series to be missed! Ninomiya Kazunari and Suzuki Anne are delightful in this heart warming story! Narimiya Hiroki is also NOT to be missed! I laughed so much, I almost cried. And then I did! This is the kind of series that's like a friendly hug. It can be firm and it can sometimes mean goodbye, but more often than not its warm, sweet, and absolutely fun!
26. Comments by nienna [Rating: 8/10]
It's a really good drama with lots of funny scenes~~! Since i'm a girl, i don't know how a virgin Japanese guy thinks. It's a really intersting point of view and a refreshing change instead of the same ol' genre of sappy love story. Ninomiya Kazunari looks a lot more better in person than he was in the drama. haha... yamapi is so totally cute but i like him better in kurosagi~~!

Woo hoo! Love it. Very funny. Laughed all the way through this drama. Plus, it consists nearly all of my fabourite actors, Shun, Nino, Yamapi and Hiroki. And they're all so damn funny~ They go aroung acting like weirdos, looking for 'the ONE' to... sleep with. Ah ha ha ha... Lent it to 3 of my friends, and it has become one of the things we laugh about once in a while.

Hmmmm... 1 - 4 episode was boring, i don't know where the story gonna go. But then, it turn to be funny drama for me. A friendship between them was great. Nino, Yamapi, Oguri, and Narimiya are great, plus Suzuki play efficient role. But still, with this "All-Star casting", this drama only have seven rating from me.

OMG! This drama is HILARIOUS! There were bits that were disturbing, but all those funny scenes and and the happy ending rules over it. =) Those 4 guys are total dorks, but that's why we all like them. lol. I recommend this drama for those looking for funny yet touching dramas!!
P.S. Shouhei ( Nino) acted really well in this drama. ( well, he's a good actor anyway)

Such a hilarious and light hearted drama about the pains of being a high school student who is the only virgin left!! Nino was GREAT in his role as Shou-chan, he embodied the "loser" character so well! Yamapi as Ken Ken, Namiya as Hayato and Oguri as Kou kun were perfect as well. I love this drama! <33 highly recommended but don't watch it with your parents! ^_^

OK this drama was not the best it was good I mainly liked it because of the 4 guys cast Big Fan of Yamapi and NINO and of course Oguri and maybe Nari. But sometimes I just got like WTF are they thinking putting that in the story. Unless your a fan of the cast like me then don't bother watching it.
4. sonychak
It started ok in the beginning but then toward the end it really grew on me. I was very satisfied with the ending. I think I liked it a lot were because of the four main characters. I seen them all in dramas and happy to see them all in one. Each one had its special attribute to the show.
5. saorilisa321
what more can i say four hot and yet incredibly adorable guys playing such scebe roles leads to a great outcome! watched it for Nino but fell in love with alll of them! the story highlights normal stuf but highlights the bad stuff and talks about it in a responsible way

Stand Up is just GREAT! It has most of my fav. actors! The casy is a dream come true! Plus I love the mood in the dorama, the way the story moves and everything that happens. Plus, I laughed so much watching this that my back was hurting the rest of the day.

Oguri Shun ? Yamapi ?

Well. those 2 caught my eyes. Shun was abit skinny , but so was Pi. But.. who cares?

interesting storyline. pretty much diff from the lovey-dovey type out there. Worth a watch. Maybe 2 watches ...

Well ok!!! maybe more!~

At first, I really hated it. I mean, hello... 4 boys who are so desperate to loose their virginity with their antiques are sooooooo annoying. but the last 4 cds made me change my mind. These kids made me laugh and cry. It's soooo funny.
10. dearlysaint
One thing i like this drama is, there is no hurry for sex at young age. we have it is because we love that person and not just for the sake of catching up the trend! like what kenko said in the drama, "grow up slowly". no rush right?
11. xhidex33
I don't like the theme too much, about virginity and stuff... but it's the little details that make this drama worth watching~ they're all so cute and the things they do are just... ridiculous...
had many good laughs!

this drama is super funny eventhough they have weird storyline and all five main character have great chemistry....i luv all character....beside, shun is super funny in this one

It's cute and funny, and takashi's appearance (hmm.. he's everywhere oguri is XD) is only predictable. I love the chemistry between the boyboys, and main character is a cutie.
