1. Incredible characters and music, must-watch [Rating: 9/10]
One of the best doramas I've seen so far! This is not a common dorama; it seems more like a long movie divided into several episodes (eleven, each of them being one day in Kita Yoshio's life before he commits suicide).

Incredible cast: Matsuda Ryuhei won a prize for his role, Kuriyama Chiaki is wonderful as always, really credible, and Kohinata Fumiyo was the perfect actor for his role. Konishi Manami did a wonderful job as well, but I don't quite like her. And what a nice surprise to see Namase Katsuhisa in there! Each character has an outstanding and recognizable personality, and it's beautiful to see how they are connected through all the story. Music is also wonderful, and it stands out as almost another character through the series, creating incredible atmospheres in different situations. In fact, because of this OST, I just got interested in jazz :D

Some have said this dorama is slow, but I just don't agree. It focuses on Kita Yoshio's deep feelings, his subtle changes, his peace of mind and his determination, his fears, his frustrations, his love, his gratefulness, his dark side, and all the subtle ties with all that surrounds him. If pace had been quicker, then all these things wouldn't have been so well explained. And again, Kohinata Fumiyo was perfect.

There's only one detail that was totally missed in the final episode, one specific relationship detail that wass not explained, and that's why I'm giving it a 9 and not a 10. Anyway I will rewatch this jdorama for sure, because I feel I will discover new things the second time I watch it, little details that I may have missed the first time. Please add this jdorama to your list ^^

2. Ingenious! [Rating: 10/10]
Wow! The story and script were intelligently written and very unique. Great characters, and the casts did an excellent job portraying them.

Hopefully they make more series that are distinct from the common popular dramas.

I would give this dorama a 9.99999... rating. Ashita no, Kita Yoshio is really a nice dorama. Dont know y so many ppl tough it was a slow paced dorama... (and i dont know y so many ppl thinks that slow paced=bad dorama... i mean.. there r plenty of good slow paced doramas, haikei chichiue~sama for example)
Nways... i really like the casting for this dorama (Yoshitaka Yuriko and Matsuda Ryuhei r both really good actors... hope to see more from them in the future...) The plot is amazing... really caught my attention.... The only reason i didnt gave this show a 10 is the LAST episode. The ending REALLY sux! I felt that the dorama was kind of incompleted.
But the dorama is really good! Konihata~san (again) do a superb job (well... after appearing in so many movies and TV doramas its only natural that he's THAT good) OMG!! The negative thing acting was amazing!!!!

interesting choice in casting...i really enjoyed this show...the acting was well done by Kohinata Fumiyo, nice to see him in a starring role like this.....i cant imagine any1 else playing his role now that ive seen this....makes me want to see more of the roles hes chosen to be in.......Matsuda Ryuhei did a good job as well, he's a better actor than his brother is, and his brother can act also, i would like to see him in more dramas.....the female roles played by chiaki manami and yuriko were great as well....all in all start to finish i enjoyed the show, every twist and turn and how many dramas can you say that youve seen like this?...highly recommended 10/10

I think most people who ended up actually watching this drama would agree that it was the best of the season, you can clearly see right from the first episode that the people making it had a clear vision of the story they wanted to tell, and I think if they had a bigger budget and let loose creativity wise(I felt like some parts reverted back to the typical drama production), this drama could have been even better.

Watch out for Yoshitaka Yuriko, she steals every scene and I am a fan for life after her performance in this drama.

A `cursed` man who wants to commit suicide in 11 days befriends a young punk who happens to run a night club. Guess we will see his reasons in upcoming episodes and his new friends will also change his mind along the way. Quite an interesting story. 6-5-4-3. Very SLOW, most likely you will have to watch at 3x speed, the only reason it deserves a 4 is the suspense element in the show, again it is simply too darn slow.

I thought it was just an ok drama. I like the relationship between Kita-san and Heita, and most of the acting performances were good, but it wasn't like how I wished for it to be. It felt really slow approaching the end, and there were parts which didn't work for me (or were they meant to be surprising and thought-provoking? I don't see it.) Perhaps I don't have the life experience yet to like this drama.

Although pretty difficult to describe (Is it a noir? Is it a drama? Is it a feel-good story? Or rather a dark tale of personal growth? Or maybe...a little bit of all of the above, and then some more?), this is a deeply original and interesting dorama, with a nice message, a weird but solid script, great acting, very good directing/photography, and last but not least, a superb jazzy soundtrack!

Ashita is a one of a kind drama - intelligent and full of amazing actors. ItLs not in the least commercial, a somewhat complex story. I found it a little difficult to get into - I never knew where this was going. But highly recommended even to fanboys and girls - thereLs a few stunners (Matsuda Ryuhei, Kaname Jun, Yoshitaka Yuriko, Konishi Manami) in it.

This was certainly the most underrated series for the Winter Season. Therefs so many emotions you can feel just by watching it: pity of course is one, sorrow, disliking, grief, amusement, disgust and most of all relief after seeing the ending. And I must say, I really felt the creeps everytime Negative Yoshio shows up. But it's not re-watchable.

A refreshing change from the usual J-drama. It's great to see something so well written which assumes the viewer has some intelligence. Pretty unique show which is a mixture of many genres. Veteran character actor Kohinata Fumiyo shows that he is able to carry a series, and Yoshitaka Yuriko is superb as the not very talented idol.

This was a suspenseful drama about a man who wants to kill himself and bunch of people who want him dead to get his insurance money. Yet, because of his kindness, they also want him to stay alive. Conflicts galore, split personalities, and backstabbing--what more could you ask for in a drama?
11. Comments by zhirong [Rating: 8/10]
Under-rated drama. The plot alone is pretty unique and interesting. Many avoided it as it deals with a man with suicidal thoughts but as you watch each episode which represent a day in the man's life, you will start to appreciate how the plot intervene and really brings out many emotions.

I had high expections as I love Matsuda Ryuhei and Kohinata Fumiyo - but it exceeded any expectations. This was a drama completly to my taste: Made me cry one minute, made me laugh a second later. It is heartwarming, funny, well-acted, wonderful story. One of my all-time favourites!!!

Sort of a retelling of the classic movie "It's A Wonderful Life," with Kohinata Fumiyo in the lead role... The interestingly complex and intricate story bogs down a bit in the middle, but finishes nicely, although rather abruptly. Namase Katsuhisa steals the show in this drama.
14. Comments by Ezalor [Rating: 9/10]
Very, very, very intelligent, rich and unique storyline. It's a mixture of all genres, so you get ironic laughter, hope, despair, love, mystery and so on. All in all it's just the right mix. Last ep a bit of a letdown but still 10p.
EDIT: For a letdown it can't be 10p.

Another drama which is difficult to comprehen in the first 2 epidsode. This is guy who is a kind and helpful person oftens find himself at the losing end... The people he met always wants to take advantage of him however... something about him is not totally right.

i'm in love w/ ryuhei matsuda so he's obviously the reason why i watched this but it isn't too bad. he's actually very lively in this. it's always a pleasure to watch him, he brings something else to the role even if everything around him is just average. lol!

Average dorama. The story wasn't exactly anything to be exited about and some of the characters got a little annoying - Konishi Manami (as Washizu Mizuho) is just way~ to stiff and Kohinata Fumiyo's (as Kita Yoshio) negative side get's quite anoying.

Excellent stuff. Crappy ratings but best show of Winter 08. Dealt with tough topics but also had some lighter moments that made it fun to watch. Last episode was a little bit of a let-down but I'll give it 10 pts.

OK show starring Kohinata Fumiyo who is a character actor and is not usually the lead actor....a bit slow and draggy at times but not bad.....another character actor Namase Katsuhisa also in this series......

I like the idea of this story but I don't know why, the acting is very boring and I spend many times to see this drama to the end. But the idea is very nice...

Ep 1 was quite interesting, but the overal idea seemed messy. I couldn't and wouldn't keep up with the storyline. Actually, I didn't want to.

I watched every episode even though it's not my type of drama. It's conceptually meaningful, but too slow and failed to engage me.

a bit slow but it changes from other dorama. For shinjuku fan like me it is shooted in the middle of kabukichou
