I haven't watched many suspense dramas like this, probably in large part because I would presume that they wouldn't be able to sustain ten plus episodes without becoming either way too melodramatic, or at best, really slow and draggy. Certainly this is a slow paced drama, but it is wonderfully done, and by no means boring. Actually, the only time I started losing interest was during the last few episodes, when things started to really pick up, because it somewhat destroyed the somber mood that was so beautiful in the beginning. But, the ending was absolutely perfect, one of the best endings I have ever seen (in any form of media for that matter), and it mostly accomplishes this feat simply with ONE WORD; one word so haunting that it gave me goosebumps. That, and the few scenes after it, were so great they tied up this already impressive drama into something quite amazing.
Also, I should add that, while I imagine it will come as no surprise to anyone, of course Nakama Yukie is naturally able to perform in this type of role perfectly. |
