1. A Superior Pairing: Kimura Takuya/ Tamura Masakazu [Rating: 10/10]
This dorama features some of the best acting I have seen in matching Masakazu and Kimura. Both offer up some of their best performances in Concerto. The storyline has a much more realistic feel to it than other more glitzy/fantasy Kimura products like Pride and Hero. I have known architects who are very similar in character as these two men--artistic and stubborn. For those who have short attention spans and love shallow Fuji-type plots, you won't be happy with Concerto. The writers here developed a classy adult-style dorama with all the complexities of real life. It was the perfect low-key followup for Kimura after the emotional heights of Long Vacation. For Rie Miyazawa, this dorama was a big revival for her career and yet she didn't have to stress over being the star of the story. Her character is typical of some young Japanese women, very sweet but lacking confidence, thus easily controlled and influenced by the men in her life. Fortunately for her, she has two of the best in Japanese acting as her co-stars in Concerto. I'm sure many women would love to be in her shoes here! The ending was a perfect complement to the entire story. This dorama takes a little more thought than most doramas do, and won't be too satisfying if you try to watch it all at once. Give each episode some time to work in your mind, and you'll appreciate it more...

2. Wonderful Adult Love Triangle [Rating: 10/10]
A different twist on a love triangle. The two men competing for the same woman never fight with each other, instead their friendship only seems to grow more close, especially near the end. The guys care about each other, so much that they are willing to give up the woman they love so that the the other man and the woman can be happy together (or so they think). Such a subtle, slowly unfolding story that really makes you care about the characters. Tamura Masakazu is simply amazing in this. His facial expressions, his eyes and eyebrows, he says so much with just these things. He's truly one of the best Japanese actors that I have seen. Kimura Takuya is good, though with this character he plays it almost like a carbon copy of Teppei from Love Generation. This is one of his earliest dramas, so inexperience may have been a factor. Rie Misazawa was also good. But make no mistake, Tamura Masakazu is the heart of this drama. It's a tad slow at times and the very beginning where Ebisawa comes out of the water is not believable, but those are the only bad things I can say about it. Also, this is not a teen drama, or for strictly Kimura Takuya fans, they won't enjoy this too much. This is a serious, understated romantic drama for adults.

3. Another Great Drama! [Rating: 10/10]
This drama is like a glass of fine wine, when enlightened, you will find the after taste quite enchanting.

Much like (Lost In Translation), one needs to take time to appreciate the director's interpretation of this love triangle thru the lenses & good acting when no words are spoken. The drama's slower pace is to be savoured if one gets the gist of it.

Thru the eyes of architects, the plot mirrors life's rises & falls, the determination behind a great journey to reach for one's goal, and when hit with hardship, one door is closed yet another one opens. Our daily life is full of many wonders, clues and inspirations, you'll find it if you look hard enough.....

The love triangle is also kind of Casablanca-- A (lucky) woman torn between 2 lovers-Kimutaku & Tamura Masakazu.
Each rises above selfishness for the loved one's happiness & well beings.

4. Really enjoyed this drama!!! [Rating: 8/10]
I thought this was a really good drama. I've seen some complaints about the ending, however in my opinion, it really makes sense within the context of series. I don't want to dump spoilers here so I won't say anything, but in my opinion it wasn't a cop-out and it wasn't unfinished. It was actually very sweet and totally made sense if you think about it. Well worth watching. Only grip was the ineffectual creature Rie Miyazawa's character was. That was in the writing, her acting was really good.

5. Concerto is Great but........... [Rating: 9/10]
It is great. the story is good it had good acting. I finish it in 2 days. I like the conflict between the characters i loved the characters. It was very entertaining. I just felt like it wasn't finished. Thats what it seemed like to my it didn't have a ending.
I don't mean that the ending was bad it just seemed unfinished.
It is still a good drama to watch and very enjoyable.
Kimura Takuya is a very good actor and that cast is great so great.

6. Slower pace...but enjoyable. [Rating: 7/10]
This is a story about a love triangle between Masakazu Tamura, Rie Miyazawa and Takuya Kimura. In comparision, this dorama is at a slower pace but the the all star cast performance was good. Overall, an interesting story about a woman fell in love with two men...

One of the best, thouroughly enjoyable. Exploration of anxieties of two men in spring vs. autumn of their careers, competition between personal and professional lives... acting is outstanding... screenwriting same, although the ending was a bit of a copout :-(

8. fantastic... [Rating: 10/10]
Ebisawa Kosuke, rather, Tamura Masakazu ... he's classic. this was the one show that will always remind me of the Masakazu stutter. that's a classic stutter that only he can do. Masakazu suits every role he plays in and this show is no exception.

9. A First-Class Concerto! [Rating: 9/10]
Tamura Masakazu carried the role of Ebisawa Kosuke exceptionally well opposite of Takuya's Kakeru. Unquestionably among the top dramas I've seen with some first-class acting, a great script and storyline and very fitting musical selection

I'm in the middle, the story drags somewhat; but Kimura is, as always, hot enough to keep me glued (despite the super LOW QUALITY copy I'm watching) :P the female lead has the most annoyingly whiney voice though, I hate it.

11. Fantastic!! [Rating: 10/10]
The actors were at their best. The scriptwriters were subtle and original. The characters real, flawed, talented, charismatic!!
I LOVED THE ENDING TOO!
But if youre looking for some snappy paced drama, this isnt for you.

A pleasure to watch a fine performance by one of my favorites (Tamura Masakazu) and my first look at Kimura Takuya whose dorama series my wife and I are watching on a regular basis nowadays. These two, together with Rie Miyazawa, put on a fine performance in a story about a young couple (Kimura as a budding architect) struggling in their relationship and the girl eventually is swept off of her feet by a famous and accomplished architect (Tamura) who is also divorced. One would expect bad blood between the characters Ebisawa and Kakeru; however, their common interest in architecture and Kakeru's desire to work for, and subsequently prove himself worthy to Ebisawa, lead to what were some intensely complex moments ... none more so when the two architects were in the running for an award for the best design plans. How do they handle their mutual respect for each other ... as well as their feelings for Hana? The answer is a plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the dorama ... enjoy!

Unlike most shows, Concerto doesn't force feed you the drama but instead lets it flow naturally with the story. This is one of the better Kimura dramas I've seen and is worth watching if you're looking for a realistic show that takes a look at the many intricacies of life.

The only complaints I have with the drama are:

1. The incredibly annoying comic relief housewife who thankfully disappears from the show quickly.

2. Miyazawa's character being incredibly pathetic at times, makes the show unrealistic.

3. The open ending, it doesn't really work and just makes the show feel unfinished.

Overall though the pros outweigh the cons, definitely a drama that older audiences will appreciate.

I'm still unsure of how I should rate this. I liked the overall plot: the portrayal of two men in the same field experiencing different stages in their careers. Not only do they have a complicated professional relationship with each other, they're in love with the same woman. However, I was wholly unsympathetic with Miyazawa Rie's rather pathetic character. I was still compelled to watch to the very end, though when the end did finally come, I was left thinking, WTF?
4. Comments by Lee-chan [Rating: 7/10]
A slower, more subtle, and overall more mature drama. The two male leads' rivalry in career and romance was enthralling, while their friendship and mutual respect gave their relationship another level of complexity... and by the end, I really didn't care much for Miyazawa's role in the story. Still, great acting in a character-driven story.

i would have liked this more if i hadnt seen so many dramas, but it was predictable
as always great acting from a cast which involves kimura takuya
great acting from everyone...could have done without the female lead character, in real life i dont thinks would have panned out quite like they did either, all in all it was good

If I made a list and ranked all the Kimura Takuya dramas I've watched in my life, this would probably end one being at the bottom somewhere. Casts are amazing (beyond that, even), but the story does not live up to modern standards. If you plan to watch it and want to enjoy it, let's just say... don't expect much. :)

2 men with conflicts of interests in both love & profession. In spite of that they're always honest & show mutual respect for each other which is wonderful. This is a different & unpredictable drama with convincing acting performances & a very satisfying ending. Very good.

i wonder if this drama really exist. it seem so impossible that the girl you love and you've been living together for 3 years will be the wife of your boss, knowing that (your boss) you are lovers before. well, that's love...a STUPID LOVE.

A drama that focuses on great acting and an emotionally-driven love triangle storyline. Although the end result is not amazing, it is satisfactory and provides a good journey. As with all Kimutaku dramas, it's well worth the time.

Concerto never made it to one of my favorites but I just like what they did in the end. Made me happy for the two Architects! Didn't buy the not so original DVD though it's available. I still have a downloaded copy though.

This could have been a great drama, but I totally hate Hana's character: a woman that switches easily between husband and boyfriend and can never make up her mind. There's absolutely no chemistry in their relationships.

This was obviously an early work of Takuya. I could not decide if his character is really lame to begin with or the portrayal lacked depth. The story was good but the ending is soooo flat.

The love story is secondary. This is really a variation on "A Star is Born". Tamura in the Frederic March role and Kimura in the Janet Gaynor role.
