1. Perfect [Rating: 10/10]
Ohsama no Restaurant is a perfect drama. Thatfs all there is to it. The writing was brilliant – there wasnft a single inconsistent element nor any loose ends left hanging – and the actors were so convincing and real that Ifm almost convinced they wrote their own roles for themselves.

The drama is about a French Restaurant in need of a makeover. The people working at the restaurant go through a transition when a young man takes over the ownership of the restaurant and hires the legendary garcon.

Matsumoto Koshiro was brilliant. I fell in love with him through and through – for his portrayal of his character, for his physical character, for the sound of his voice, for his talent, for his penetrating eyesc This is my first time seeing him in a drama and I can now see where his children get their talent. Yamaguchi Tomokoc really, what can I say? Shefs never disappointed me (though my experience with her is limited) and she really was the best character in this entire drama. Nishimura Masahikoc the more I see of him, the more I like him as an actor. He really plays the sleaze-ball characters well. All members of the supporting cast were tight and really made their presence known. With the way each episode is written and the way the characters are embedded within each plot line, it becomes difficult to determine whether or not the characters are supporting, or equal across the spectrum. Thatfs how good this drama is.

2. Nice family comedy dorama [Rating: 7/10]
I always enjoy these old doramas where real (good) actors used to play instead of eye-candy jpop singers. This is one of them.
This is a family comedy with a simple storyline, progressing one episode at a time, written and filmed for the purpose of entertaining us.

The team of actors do a pretty good job at it. For the fans of Yamaguchi Tomoko, this is her at her best, delightful in being funny and natural, and infusing her style and personality in her role.

It does remind me a bit of "My little chef", although "Ohsama no resutoran" was aired 7 years earlier, in the structure and comedic relief and even scenario, except "Ohsama no resutoran" seems a tiny bit more realistic.

3. If you want to see a miracle, go to this restauran [Rating: 10/10]
There was one year in the mid-1990s in New York where we could see weekly Doramas, and this series was the standout of that period. Recently, we purchased this set on VCD and concluded that it is simply a masterpiece. The chief highlight is Koshiro Matsumoto's performance as the enigmatic waiter/Zen master, but the rest of the ensemble holds it own with him comedically and dramatically. The writing is superb, and the music is excellent. This is a dorama that grows with you over time, and we recommend it highly to anyone in the world who appreciates fine cinematic work.

4. Simply Superb [Rating: 9/10]
Among the best jdoramas I've ever watched. Humorous, delightful and truly endearing, this drama is wonderfully entertaining. Matsumoto Koshiro, Yamaguchi Tomoko and Nishimura Masahiko lead this cast of charming and quirky characters very well. The music is quite suitable, although the French pronounciations were clearly off - had absolutely no idea what on earth they thought they were saying in French, lol. Aside from that minor detail - a superb drama overall. Don't think anything since the US sitcom Frasier had me laughing like this. Two thumbs up!

Mitani Kouki is one of Japan's finest screenwriters. He penned this drama in the 1990's, and writing is drama is not something he has done often. He is a great comedic writer and this drama was no exception to that. He's also a master at handling large groups, and the large cast of characters in this is a testament to that. The drama itself doesn't ever move outside the restaurant, which worked well for it, as the "what happens in life also happens on the plate" is proven to be true; all we need to know about the characters is evident by what they do and how they act within the restaurant. And their micro-community flourishes. This is certainly worth watching for fans of Mitani Kouki's films, and drama lovers in general!

COMPLETE. A very entertaining watch owed to the quirky characters and its funny witty moment. The interaction between the staffs are cute and witty. I must largely thank the witty dialogue for keeping this interesting. I personally think it's the strongest point for this drama. In ep 9 if i'm not mistaken, the scenes between the two brothers, I had some tears in my eyes but swiftly at the same time got me into laugh when the other staff interjected with some funny comments about the story of pig brothers. All in all, the premise of a french restaurant is nothing much, it's the interesting dialogue that make this an interesting one.

One of the best and most entertaining series around. Great scripts with outstanding acting performances all round. When the staff get together with a common goal, it was just so much fun to watch. The last 3-4 episodes were significantly more serious. They were still very good but I personally found the last two a bit of let-down. Still, overall an excellent series, some of the best fun I had watching jdoramas.

A light and humourous series. Despite its rather simple storylines, the cast gels together very naturally and the delightful quirkiness of the characters and the plot will keep one entertained for hours. Simply put, one of the best doramas I've seen and certainly the best food-related drama out there. A must-watch!

Boring. I tried, but boring. I don't like films or dramas that take place for an hour in one room, it just bothers me--with the exception of the movie, "12 Angry Men."
