Synopsis
Mizuho Tanimachi has big dreams of living in Daikanyama and becoming a famous writer. In the middle of the winter, this strong-willed 26-year-old moves to Tokyo from the snowy countryside. Never doubting her ability, she keeps telling herself that if her desire to realize her dreams is strong enough, they will come true. What is waiting for her in Tokyo though, is something altogether different.

Kenta Morinaga is an up-and-coming variety program scenario writer. Kenta moved to Tokyo five years ago, and with luck on his side, he became well-known in no time. Kenta and Mizuho are from the same hometown, and were friends growing up, but their friendship never blossomed into anything else. "Hachiko," as Kenta was known as when he was growing up, just goes with the flow and doesn't really have any big aspirations for himself.

These two, who aren't having much luck with work or with their love lives, suddenly run into each other one day in Tokyo in the middle of winter.

Being 26 is a tough point in life because it's too late to think of new dreams, but on the other hand, it's too late to abandon old ones...

This new kind of story about life in the "big city" was written by Yuko Aizawa, a drama script writer who has already won the hearts of many young women for her acclaimed script for the Fuji hit drama "The Power of Love."

1. Soap-Opera-ish and Predictable, but Interesting... [Rating: 6/10]
...look at book publishing in Tokyo.

This is basically a soap-opera romance, formerly available on Crunchyroll as "Always The Two Of Us." It's completely predictable, but being predictable is not necessarily a deal-killer in terms of entertainment. Despite what some have said here, the two leads - Matsu Takako as Mizuho and Sakaguchi Kenji as Hachi/Kenta - have perfect chemistry for the roles of childhood friends who suddenly have to confront the emergence of romantic feelings.

There is a disappointing blandness to the drama in this series, but it's still good entertainment and a good, if thoroughly predictable, romance. It just could've been a whole lot better.

What's most worthwhile about this series is its focus on the publishing industry in Tokyo. The e-book revolution has rendered the whole spectacle of authors grovelling at the feet of big-name publishing houses as an anachronism, but that context makes this story interesting anyway. The character Yamazaki Shou (played excellently by Nakamaru Shinsho - who weirdly enough is not even credited on this page,) is a famous writer who's retreated to the status of a bookshop owner under an assumed name - and of whose identity Mizuho eventually learns and whom she convinces to return to writing. His character is the best part of this story, and a hint of how good it could have been if every character had had his depth and gravity.

Another excellent aspect of this series is Mizuho's acceptance of reality and the choices she makes. She comes to Tokyo as the dupe of a fraudulent scam, pursues her dream to become a great writer, only to be told that her talent for writing is lacking. After much soul-searching she acknowledges that as truth, but instead of giving up and retreating, she chooses to find a new dream and pursue it with equal dedication. She becomes an editor, and soon learns that the mysterious bookshop owner - who's revered as a judge of literature and who tells her she has no talent as a writer - is in fact her favorite author. She convinces him through sheer determination to return to writing, with her as his editor. Throughout this process we see her accept harsh reality and deal with it constructively - rather than attempting to fake it.

So lots of interesting material, but presented within a somewhat bland romance. It's entertaining enough to be worth the time spent watching it, but it could've been much better. As dramas about books and publishing go, Antiquarian Biblia Bookshop's Case Files and Ghost Writer were better. Bottom line: Not a bad show, but could have been better.

2. Good, could of been great. [Rating: 8/10]
This show had a lot of promise in my opinion, but after Kashiwabara Takashi left after episode 2, it felt thrown together messingly. Don't get me wrong, I liked his replacement (who's name i'd like to know) but I felt him (kashiwabara) and Matsu's character, Mizuho, could of been a better romance than her and Sakaguchi Kenji's role as Kenta. Kenta and Mizuho to me were just best friends, and I felt it shouldn't of even been anything more than that (though I enjoyed her being jealous). One character I felt that could of been gone from this show completely was Hasegawa Kyoko "Yoko" I thought her acting was really plain and boring. She should of been something more of a smaller role, and people who I thought were interesting and talented like Mizuho's friend who was played by Sato Hitomi *I think* given more than a small supporting role. Another good thing about this show was the beautiful women in it... Matsu, Sato, "Chika" kenta's brother's girlfriend, and Yoko's nurse coworker.. the kinda taller woman. I thought Fuwa was a pretty interesting fellow as well, too bad in the later episodes he sorta faded away. In closing, this was a pretty good drama, but if it was in the right hands it could of been something special.

3. friend to lover... [Rating: 5/10]
The draw from the start is Kashiwabara. He is outstanding as the flippant and lax young chief of the publishing firm where Matsu works. A tantalizing provocateur to the Matsu-Sakaguchi to-be romance. I feel there is more animation between Kashiwabara & Matsu than Sakaguchi & Matsu. Unfortunately, Kashiwabara dropped out of serial after the second episode. His replacement is lackadaisical. From that point, the beat of the drama weakens considerably.

Nothing very happening until Matsu realizes her feelings for Sakaguchi is not entirely platonic. For the sentimental soul, the beat picks up. Nice touch at the end when Matsu cannot help but giggles as Sakaguchi attempts to smooch her. It underscores the transition from just being childhood friends to lovers.

Eye candy drama for the cast of Kashiwabara, Matsu and Sakaguchi. Also for the trendy apartment lighted with a festival of splashy colors

4. Entertaining [Rating: 8/10]
Firstly, I don't think Sakaguchi and Matsu have the chemistry. I've enjoyed previous works of both artistes and the two of them just ain't compatible. Secondly, it is indeed a shame that Kashiwabara had to be replaced. Naoyuki was a fun character that contrasted with the seriousness of Mizuho and would have added colour to the drama. His replacement doesn't bring out the fun that well. Thirdly, I think Naoyuki could have been given a bigger role in the show since Mizuho and Morinaga's relationship just seems to progress somewhat slowly without a really big obstacle. That said, I think the drama is relatively well-written, the surprising factor being that the main story is about how the two main characters eventually fall in love, and not about the two character's romance itself. Concluding, the drama steps on all of the safe spot while still being entertaining, worth a watch.

5. The best love drama since Long Vacation [Rating: 10/10]
This show is GREAT!!!!! I have never been so moved and happy for the couple to end up together (even if it was obvious) since Long Vacation. Great dynamics between the leads. Who says Takako has to pair up with KimuTaku, she is fantastic with Sakaguchi Kenji kun - the perfect sweet couple. A highly recommended feel-good drama.

Just a note here: the change of Kashiwabara's character bothered me at first, however, the replacement actor did a good job as well and gave an excellent performance as well. Why wasn't he listed in the cast section???

6. nice and sweet [Rating: 8/10]
I used to avoid Sakaguchi Kenji's dramas after seeing him in IWGP coz i thought that he could only do violent scenes... but after seeing him in this, my impression of him is totally changed! This is such a cheesy drama and so predictable but it's one of those dramas where you watch right to the very end coz you can't help it! I suppose that this kind of role is what Takako Matsu is best in, but she's so good at it! The kissing scene at the end was the best. It was so sweet!!!!!!! The directors sure know how to build up the perfect scene!

7. Childhood friendship at its very best... [Rating: 9/10]
I like this very much. Matsu Takako is very cute in short hair. But then she's cute whatever it is :) This is a light hearted, easy to understand drama, with more than its fair share of touching moments. I was especially touched when Mizuho said she'll stay by Hachi's side forever, but he pushed her away instead!! I felt so much for her when she broke down afterwards... Great chemistry between Takako and Kenji, portraying the deep understanding between childhood friends really well. Highly recommended!!!

8. Light, Predictable, but Worth Watching [Rating: 7/10]
Kashiwabara Takashi dropped out after Episode 2, which sucks as he brought quite a bit of electricity to the dorama. Hasegawa Kyoko (also in Sutaa no Koi) is serious eye-candy and once again a bridesmaid. Matsu Takako plays Mizuho nearly identical to her role as Riko in Love Generation; Mizuho and Sakaguchi Kenji's Hatchi/Kenta character make a cute couple. Fuwa-san and Yamazaki-san were great supporting characters.

A pretty enjoyable drama. Kenji and Takako were a pretty good couple and it was too bad that Takashi left after the second ep. Somehow, the colours in the apartment just felt a bit odd to me and reminded me of Slow Dance. As for the plot, most of it was pretty predictable material. An enjoyable series to watch but not particularly enrapturing.

This drama is written in a typical good old love story fashion where three main characters have developed friendship and love relationship. Anybody know why Kashiwabara was suddenly replaced by a different actor in the 3rd or 4th episode? They made a little joke about it. One character saying something to the effect of "He's like a totally different person!"

Drama overall was a little above average. It was predictable, but a light, fun watch.

What can I say? The female main character is extremely annoying and the male maincharacter is totally spineless. I wouldn't have tolerated it, if someone suddenly decided to move into my apartment against my will and then start to insult me.

Enjoyed this playful portrayal of two childhood friends living together, disagreeing with one another, giving each other support, and experiencing change in their relationship as they try to make it in the big city. The audience is given a nice behind the scenes peek into the world of publishing. Matsu Takako's character can be trying at times, but I think she did a cute job protraying someone full of energy and gumption. The audience can see how her character matures and learns to accept her real talents as the show progresses. Sakaguchi Kenji's character is endearing in his own way, but IMHO, it isn't very convincing when he has a change of heart suddenly. (Though, hey, we're talking about dorama here!) It really is unfortunate that Kashiwabara Takashi had to drop out after the 2nd episode, but his replacement did a good job. I would've preferred a little more romantic tension between his character and Matsu Takako's, but perhaps it wouldn't ring true with her character's tendency to be one-track minded. I liked the opening song and colorful credits. Nice show.

It was a good drama revolving around two friends who live together and later finally realize that they're feelings for one another go much deeper than friendship. It was a fun and light-hearted drama to watch with great acting on Matsu Takako's and Sakageuchi Kenji's parts. The supporting cast did a wonderful job also. The only problem that I had with this drama is that:

1.) Kashiwabara Takashi left after the 2nd episode, disrupting whatever chemistry (and there was a lot of it) between his character and Takako's. In fact, I had felt that he would have been a better match for her. They were very adorable together.

2.) Ryoko's character seemed to just be written off in the end for the sake of the other two's relationship. At least Hachi should have sorted out of his feelings before going for her who had already been hurt by Fuwa-san.

One great point about this drama is the lesson that even if you don't reach your dream, there are other dreams out there that you actually may enjoy more. Matsu's character realized that. =)

watched only 5 eps so far. Matsu's even more brash and stubborn than she was in Love Generation and Sakaguchi is really growning on me. Of course, Kashiwabara is soooo cute too! it's a cute story and the acting's good. I like Matsu so much better here than in Hero. These kind of characters is where she really shines. Sakaguchi Kenji's not too bad either. Plus, I'm seeing him in Pride at the same time and I love how his characters are the same.....yet slightly diff. JDorama needs a better picture of him for his profile! He looks creepy here! Sadly, after Kashiwabara left, the story's slowing down and I'm losing interest. I need to finish watching this sometime....

I almost give 10 to this drama. But unfortunately that is impossible, because i missed kashiwabara acting at this drama (Because of his illness). You can see at the rating, there is go down from 16.4 to 15.3. Katsurayama maybe try really hard to play naoyuki role, but the chemistry was different. kashiwabara give more "fun mode" in episode 1 and 2, katsurayama only "on fire" at episode 3 and 4, the other episode he played was bad, really plain.
But fortunately they have matsu takako, she is Great actress!! I looking forward to watch "Hero" and "Love generation" because of her.
Anyway this is a great drama, reccomended..

Big dreams, big city, small town boy and girl. Takako Matsu as Mizuho Tanimachi was cute and lost in the big city of her dreams. I loved her determination to suceed against all odds. Kenji Sakaguchi as Kenta Morinaga alias Hachiko was the picture of the small town boy who makes it big in the city against all odds. He is rather clueless though about love. The action was really slow and sometimes boring. But the lesson that one must go for the moon to achieve one's dream is inspirational. And at least the characters no matter how late woke up and smelled the coffee, that love can most often be found right in our own backyard.

After having re-watched it a second time, I really fell in love with this drama! Matsu and Sakaguchi are absolutely hilarious in the first episodes! Matsu really is in her element with this type of character--but she doesn't make it like she's played it before. And I will say it again: Sakaguchi is a good actor--SO versatile, it's refreshing! :D The final episodes start to sag a bit though. The story has a lot of funny jokes in it, I guess that's the compensation! Solid drama.

Not bad at all, I would say. Probably not worth buying, but definitely a must watch for Takako Matsu's fans. Eventhough their relationship only developed towards the end, Hachi and Mizuho's friendship was really entertaining to watch. The only thing I didn't like is the fact that they changed Takashi Kashiwabara's role with someone else. But the other guy did quite a good job, it's just that I keep on imagining what it would be like had Kassy continued in that role.

At the beginning of the 3rd episode there was a explanation page for Takashis role change. It was translated in Chinese suptitles, I don't know why. Says Takashi was suddenly sick, so the role had to be changed. We hope he will get well soon. So he must getting really sick... that he could not play anymore. Poor Takashi. I was interessted in the dorama just because of him... I don't know if I still want to watch it till the end.. >.<

The storyline is really fresh because it features the writing profession, which is not much seen in doramas. Matsu Takako really shines here as the country bumpkin lost in the city. But I thought Sakaguchi Kenji was kinda wooden. The theme song by Mitsunaga Ryota is still one of my favourites, and the settings of the dorama are really cool as well. The only minus point is that Kashiwabara left halfway. If not it'll be a blast.

Matsu plays her true age, 26 here and is once more totally captivating. You could tell the other members of the cast try hard to stand up to her but no matter when she is acting as a silly spoilt out-of-towner or in a serious mode, she completely captures your attention even when the scrip and other actors are dull at times. The fantastic DVD quality of the show as well as the decor of the apartment featured here makes this even more of a delight to watch

kenji sakaguchi and matsu takako make an interesting couple! the storyline's engaging and inspires us to think about our own dreams, and never give up on what we were set on doing! ganbatte ne!

I love this drama. even though Kassy was replaced. the replacement did a good job (although not as handsome as kassy) but, i must admit that he did a GOOD job.

great story!

Great characters, nice plot, heartwarming theme. Wish there were more episodes though. I'd love to bunk in with Hachi & company (he's got nice digs!)
