are you going to grad school? |
Not right away, but I plan to within the next 2-3 years. I would go to the same school too, if possible. I'd rather get into counseling and that kinda thing. At least w/ a PsyD or even a master's, I could make some money But right now, I feel like I'm only qualified to be a secretary or some file-monkey job Not much in my field that I can do besides case working, research, and similar...

I found a great link that tells psych majors what they can do with which degrees in general, and what all the degrees mean and allow you to do. If you would like, I can find it.
Also, aside from teaching stuff, other things depend on the requirements in your state. Some can get licenses or certificates easier in some states than others I'm leaning towards the MA now w/ a certificate in some special area, because a PsyD would take me 4-5 more years And I'm probably NOT smart enough to get in and do it. I'm not necessarily looking for my own practice or anything, just the ability to counsel and make decent money
A friend of mine was a psych major too and just got her BA. She told me she went to a summer program in Thailand that allowed her to counsel independently (have a practice). It was a 6 credit program. I was like "Uhh...I dunno if that'll work in all countries", hehehe. Sounds pretty weird and not legit to me (to work in America, I mean). Maybe it's just for people who wanna practice in Thailand? LOL

i have this pamphlet thing from the psych department at my university that shows job options. thanks though. yea, i think itd be nice to have my own practice but, i guess you gotta put in all those extra years to get that doctoral degree. it seems that with a doctorate you'd have more career options though. this one guy i know, took a MA in psychology and worked in counseling at a hospital for a few years but, he said the pay was too junk and there wasnt too many master's level jobs. so, now hes back in school trying to get his doctorate....idk, he told me to just get a doctorate...haha...but of course, its not that easy with all the other factors that come into play ...i.e. MONEY....well, good luck with whatever you pursue, im sure itll be fine
