You cant seriously say that Italy didnt deserve the win. The team is full of talented players (Materazzi is one too, even though he often plays TOO roughly Sweat ).

nah mate. nobody will ever say that italy deserve to win, except for some italian supporters. by reading comments in youtube, some other sites and some even blogspot's featured blogs, most people said that france should have win and italian are cheaters. same goes to that zidane is a hero and materazzi is a stupid sh*t.

this is one screwed up world cup, and i am very dissapointed. Shake Head

There are plenty mean players like Materazzi, the headbutt was wrong. deal with it. Not that I was rooting for Italy, but hey they won the penalties: that's a skill too.

I can't wait to hear from Zidane today (who's going to give a statement about the incident today) But still these things are really common on the pitch, people give out elbows, step on toes when ref's not watching, spit, say terrible things just to get your oponent out of his game: nothing unsual in football. (and other sports too)

i agree with the majority...the italians are talented and played great to win themselves a berth to the final match but nobody can hail a stupendous victory when the final match is won on PK's

nah if france won on PK's the victory would be just as lame....at least in my book....although it would have made for a more interesting story in the sense that it was Zidane's last game and he came out of retirement to help his team.

he announced his retirement after thinking about it for several months he said...he decided to retire a while back after the world cup....but he said it wasin't due to one particular reason...i think he wants to move on from soccer.

Japan legend Nakata retires at 29

Nakata enjoyed an illustrious career in the Italian league
Japan midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 29.
Nakata, who spent last season on loan at Bolton, played his last game at the World Cup as Japan bowed out at the group stage after losing 4-1 to Brazil.

"I decided half a year ago that I would retire after the World Cup in Germany," Nakata told his official website.

"I will never again stand on the pitch as a professional player. But I won't stop playing the game."

Nakata joined Bolton in August and scored one goal in 21 league appearances.

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce paid tribute to Nakata but said he was not shocked at the midfielder's decision to retire at such a young age.

He will be remembered as the catalyst of Asian and Japanese football

Sam Allardyce

"The news isn't a surprise as far as I am concerned," he said. "Hide has had the time to think about his future and has decided the best outcome is to hang up his boots.

"He's had a glittering career and has achieved plenty in the domestic game.

"He will be remembered as the catalyst of Asian and Japanese football, and also the first Japanese export to European football.

"It was a privilege to work with him last season, and I'd like to wish him well.

"He will always be welcome as a guest at this football club in the future."

Nakata spent seven years in Italy's Serie A, where he played with Roma, Parma, Bologna and Fiorentina.

In 2005 he was honoured with one of Italy's highest awards - Knight of the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity - for helping to promote Italy's image overseas

What's the link to Nakata's official website ? do you know what he will do then ? he's young ! he will get bored if he does just nothing ... bleh

Zidane says sorry for dismissal

Zinedine Zidane has publicly apologised for his sending off in the World Cup final, but claimed he did not regret his actions against Marco Materazzi.

Zidane, who was captaining his country in his final match before retirement, stated that Materazzi insulted his mother and sister in the seconds leading up to the incident, which saw the France midfielder thrust his head into the Italy defender's chest.

"I reacted badly and I would like to apologise for it," Zidane told Canal Plus. "I would like to apologise because a lot of children were watching the match. I do apologise but I don't regret my behaviour because regretting it would mean he was right to say what he said."

He added: "There was no tension with Materazzi before or during the match.

"He just put his hand onto my shirt and I told him to stop. I told him that if he wanted it I could give it to him at the end of the match.

"Then he said very harsh words to me and repeated them several times. I left but then I went back towards him and things went very fast.

"The words he said concerned my mother and sister.

"I heard them once, then twice, and the third time I couldn't control myself. I am a man and some words are harder to hear than actions.

"I would have rather been knocked down than hear that."

oh well, like I said above, these things happen. Even worse when the crowd makes 'monkey' sounds when the oponents player is black. and yet they play on. I can't think of a more racist/lower way to hurt a player..

Yes, Zidane was serene and spoke very well in french tv ! (Canal Plus and TF1) w00t!
An interview with no surprise, he said what everyone understood !

Of memory:

He is apologise for people and kids who have seen her gesture who is unforgivable in football and in life, but he is not sorry for the words that have said the Italian, it's more unforgivable that her gesture ! He don't understand why provocation is not yet sanctioned too.
He didn't make this by pleasure and he was conscious (it was a world cup final and his last game), but as a human being he couldn't let pass these words, and he had react naturally !
He's shock by racism, more when it's by a football player ! Today, racism is a big problem for FIFA and in football.
He was also shock by an italian newspaper who wrote that Italy won against a black and musulman team ! ( really f*ck Shocked ! )

And he has no regrets ! ^^

whatever.....i've been subject to it so perhaps i'm more sensitive to it than others...what i'm racist because i said zidane should have gave him a boot in the ass...that's not racism..

PLEASEEEEEE....of course there is racism in the united states but unless you've travelled the world which i have....don't EVEN say the US is at the top of the list...that is flat WRONG.

Europe has a strong history of racism AND anti-semitism that is still pervasive today...

What the hell was the political ideology of the three axis powers in WWII based on???? RACE....Fascism extols racist surperiority and the sanctity of the blood.

if you think i'm rascist you obviously don't read closely enough.

In America we don't throw peanuts, make monkey sounds, and bring Swatistkas in to the sporting arena....or make neo-nazi salutes..

edit: if i'm so rascist you should go back and read my comments in the Jap is an offensive term thread, or my consternation in this thread about how the Spanish coach called Henri a black piece of shiet, or the fact that Hana Yori Dango used the some of the most contrived racial stereotypes i've ever seen in the fact that Nanako Matsushima's maid in Los Angeles was a Black woman.....

France too, I'm sorry, has undertones of anti-semitism...my consternation isn't focused on one group in particular though, just the offenses in general

Dood, it's ridiculous to interpret my criticism as rascist ~ that's plain unintelligent and misguided.
