Maybe it should have been a little older..
maybe 16?

In a lot of countries you can be legally wed at the age of 16, provided you have parental consent. This include Asian countries such as Korea and China, probably even Japan.

Well it's not common (right?)
So 16 year old mother would have been as shocking/scandalous as 14 year old mother

oh, the young actress who plays the lead was also in Sapuri? good.
she did a wonderful job acting in the first two eps, and has a great talent in acting. I compare her with the slighly older Tomoka Kurokawa, and at 17, she is a great actress too.

There are subtitles to the first episode, and i believe they are currently working on the sub's for the 2nd ep to this j-drama. I hope they continue the series ep3 to the end. They are soft sub's, and are located on the d-addicts website. Applaud

Of course you are right in saying that this is not an everyday occurence. Nevertheless it being legal does put a cap on the drama. Girls tend to mature early and at 16 they are more 'prepared' (perhaps not the right word here) for motherhood than a 14-year old.

Whether this is scandalous or not really depends on the development of a society's culture. In the 19th century people tend to marry early, probably because most of them die before they see their 50th birthday. Girls turned into mothers at the ripe old age of 12 in a lot of cases. Modern society thinks this is a sin but at the current state of the world, who's to say we are right and that our ancestors were wrong.

Raging hormones aside a young mother feels the turmoil mostly because of how people around her react. If you act scared of something, e.g. a snake, in front of a very young child he/she is likely to feel scared, even though he/she has no knowledge of the dangers of a snake.

I am not sanctioning underage pregnancy, only saying that by acting to protect our young we sometime become the source of fear.

the video file...which is usually the (.avi) file, is the episode video of the j-drama...and you get that off d-addicts

depending if the j-drama is being sub'd....with hard subs(meaning...the subs are in the .avi file episode, OR soft subs...d/l the (.srt) file...which is usually very very small file...
and put it in the same folder, d/l VOBSUB and you good to go...

so, remember...HARDSUBS...don't have to worry about the srt file...cause the fansubbers put it in the regular avi file in the j-drama ep series.
SOFTSUBS....well you get the point already.

In Sekai Chuushin de... the main characters couldn't get married because they were only 16. I assumed, even with parental consent, they were not able to marry? I wonder if this was only for the drama or if it also applies to real life in Japan?

I saw the first part...I enjoyed it.

They were young and foolish. They made a mistake. If it was my daughter, I guess I would have to forgive her. Shikata ga naindesukara.

I can't wait for the second part to finish downloading.

well i would disown her if she WANTED to have the baby. she should get an abortion ne? i just dont see how a 14 year old can mentally and financially raise a kid, even tho they somehow knew how to "do it," it was probably an accident lol. like the sensei said, it's not fair for the baby.

From what I understood from the subs I don't think it was an 'accident' per se -
Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:

Also I think it is too early to pass judgement on whether it is fair to the baby - if Miki turned out to be a good mother then it would not have been unfair. What is certain is that Miki is going to have a real tough time ahead.

i can only speak for myself here, but if i was a parent, it would be a really tough situation to be in, having your daughter pregnant, especially at such a young age, but i would be upset and angry, but yet forgiving, and supportive. It is vital to show emotional support at these times, but it is a complicated perdicament(situation) to be in. Sweat

I have no idea how I'm going to behave if my 14-year old daughter tells me she's pregnant. I suppose it depends also on my own circumstance - if I am reasonably well-off (able to support my daughter and grand-whatever) I'm probably more likely to be sympathetic than frustrated.

For the record though I don't have any children, and am not planning on having any.

On a different note I love the music in this drama, to the point that I have placed an advance order for the OST. It's available in mid/late November and will probably be shipped to me together with the "Nodame Cantabile" CDs I ordered. Mr Green

wow, this drama is GOOD. at first the whole idea.. i was like whoa, i cant watch this drama... and especially since shida mirai in sapuri didnt really have much of a role, and i hadnt realized what an amazing job she could do in this role. but at first i was seriously so surprised 'cause she is sooo young and looks even younger!! but after the "2 months later" bit, she looked so much more grown up and adultlike just with longer hair and change in makeup. O_O

anyway ive only just watched the first 2 eps but i really think its amazing so far. Smile
