I searched through the previous threads, but could not find any about this program. So I am sorry if anyone had asked this in the past. Sweat

See, where I live none of the universities offer a Japanese language course. Most of them just offer Spanish and French, and a few offer German. So the only way right now is to teach myself Japanese. I am mastered a little Hiragana, but I would like a program to help me further and will teach me grammar as well. And I heard about the Rosetts Stone program for the Japanese language, but never read any reviews for it. I know it is a little expensive, but then it costs as much as a credit for college anyway, so I thought it was a good trade off. So if anyone has heard anything about it, I would appreciate in hearing it! I just want to know if it would be beneficial in anyway, or if anyone else has other suggestions.

Arigato! Victory! Peace!

I've tried the demo version (I believe online) and it seems fine for learning. Nothing can obviously replace formal classroom education. What I don't know is if it's worth the price they are asking.

I just saw my 1st advertisement for the Rosetta Stone Language home courses on TV this morning. I was wondering if anyone had ever tried them. I'd like to know about them also. I hope you can get some responses here Sailorprinzess. Smile

I never tried Rosetta Stone. It's popular, but is it good? Head Scratch

I got some free learning materials from the Meguro Language Center. They are based in Tokyo. The free stuff is from beginner to expert level. Just click on "Free Material" on the top right. (It doesn't like Firefox btw, so you'll need Internet Explorer)

I've found Rosetta Stone series in one torrent site and tried for fun Spanish, Swedish and Japanese (my bro tried Arabic). Basically it show four pictures, pronounce coresponding word or phrase, mix them and make you guess which one is which. There is no grammar explanations, it's just learning by repetition. I've already studied german and russian, so for spanish and swedish as similar european languages it was easy to distinguish different language parts. But japanese was a bit of shock (by that time I didn't know anything about jdoramas, now I'm more used to it). Anyhow I didn't studied thoroughly, so can't say if it can help learning seriously language.

I know which one you mean, it's chunky package and cost about HK$600. I was looking at it whiles over in HK. It looks reasonable, covering basics and grammar.

But there is a little software programs on the mac. They pretty much the basics but I doubt that you want that, I hear many suggestions is to learn the online sites and grab yourself a Japanese penpal. Which I don't know whether if that woulld work.

I much prefer the Declan Software software - it takes learning Japanese seriously.
