Well I did rant in my blog about it, or whenever I come across one brainless comment like this. It's also kinda depressing to know that some of these Ryo-obsessed fangirls are in my (Kanjani8) fandom. Imagine putting up with these kids from time to time. *Damn I sound like an obachan there when I'm not even 30 yet!*

Good for you... Someone needs to sane up these fools. Thumbsup

Apparently three to four pages of spoilers are what I get for not getting to the subs early.

Anyways, just finished episode 5, and some ramblings about what transpired, as well as regarding some of the posts I had to read through over the last few pages:

Spoiler (highlight text to read):

- Michiru backbone! Or at least, a small hint of it, and then back to some submissiveness later on in the episode. She must really be a weakling if she got raped by a frail and hungry man. Sweat

Somehow, I can't put it off that their portrayal of somebody of Michiru's character is just right. I would expect the kind of behavior they've shown so far from someone of Michiru's character. There's this attachment to Sousuke's state that she's identifying with, and somehow she hasn't been able to find somebody else in the same boat. She seems envious of Ruka's family life, compared to how her own family is. And in that way, being with and taking care of Sousuke may be a reflection of how she doesn't want the same thing that happened to her and her family happen to anyone else.

- Seconding the point that there's absolutely nothing to go on as to why Sousuke is this way. Nothing remotely similar to that early hint on Takeru's family. They do want to keep making him the villain since it'll buy them more viewers... albeit at the lesser (to others, probably to really serious viewers) consequence of cheapening his worth to everyone else's motivations.

- Yeah, that part where Ruka just left Takeru out to dry in the last bit was depressing. From being somebody who she feels being comfortable with to 'stay away from me', he must be some heck of a guy to take that in stride.

Still waiting for more developments here, since it'd be great to see them develop his story as good as how they've made Ruka's out to be.

- Asami was really pretty here. Not the same kind of pretty that I thought of when I first saw her from Nodame, but... yow. Sweat

As for Eri's story, hm. Kinda weird to see her pining away for Ogurin and eventually switching to Takeru, but then again she was drunk. I do like the way they handled the aftermath of that kiss, and Takeru's defense of his own actions. That scene with Takeru washing his face was on target.

That said, those comments about fangirls not minding the DV... that's pretty idiotic. Let's see you still feel any sort of 'kawaii' after a hard freaking smack to the face.

Hope they keep up with viewer expectations with the remaining episodes.

What you're highlighting above is becoming the major weakness in the drama Sweat
Spoiler (highlight text to read):
I need to see some psychological depth in Sousuke's personality - this is not a horror movie at the end of the day. I am sure the actor can pull it off if given a bit of airtime.

this drama... is actually not as great as i thought it would be.

but still, it keeps you watching to find out what will happen.

Spoiler (highlight text to read):
although everyone's focus is on ruka and sosuke (because their 'problems' are more obvious)... i actually find myself more interested in michiru and takeru. i guess most people would think that michiru is a dumb character, but after watching episode 5, i think i can understand why she is so thick in the head as to not realise ruka's feelings (when even third parties like takeru and eri are sensing it already).

i've read some theories saying that michiru actually senses ruka's feelings, but she denies them because she's afraid to admit the whole girl-love thing. well, i'm more inclined to think that michiru has an inferiority complex towards ruka. right from the start, she has never imagined that ruka would ever fall for someone like her. someone weak, clumsy and so ordinary. (recall what she said to ruka in episode 3, asking ruka if she will be her friend forever) in the eyes of michiru, ruka has always been someone she envies and admires. ruka's self confidence, ruka's achievements, ruka's perfect family.... to michiru, maybe someone great like ruka would fall for someone even better and more talented, not for a good-for-nothing like herself.

Alrighty, so skipping all the fifth episode rants until I watch it...

The screenwriter for Last Friends happens to have done the NANA movies. Smile

The show gets progressively more NANA-ish with each episode (if you read the manga and/or seen the second movie).

O wow! Well this could be a very good thing... or a disaster. It's hard to move from Film to Drama, since the time-frame and durations are different. Has the screenwriter written for dramas before

Yeah, it's a risky role for a JE Boy, but I've yet to see any dimensionality in this character at all... He might as well be an animated cardboard cut out... Or is he already?

I was a little annoyed at the abruptness with which his character changes. There were no signs or warning... which may be realistic, but it was unsettling for me as a viewer.

i think it got too hyped up... people around me were all talking abt it.... blah blah... and when i finally watched it... meh. it's good, no doubt, but somehow i feel that they are trying to cram too much stuff into the whole thing.... yet it gets boring sometimes... like the DV parts.... i think sosuke is getting a lot more screen time than he deserves.... i want more of takeru. he's a more interesting character than sosuke, if you ask me.

Yeah, plenty of dramas, actually. A couple notable ones are Kamisama, mou sukoshi dake and Love Generation. I enjoyed Kamisama, so I have lots of faith for this show!

Alrighty, I've read up until page 36. That's where the first post of epi 3 begins.

watching episode 2 ryt now in baidu..

just got to say that Sousuke really gives me the creeps especially every time he's waiting outside Michiru's workplace, the way he stares is deadly.. Dead adding to the horror is the bgm..

I completely agree. I have no idea why people are giving Ryou such a hard time. I think he's doing great. He's the only character that has me moving to the edge of my seat. Just the sight of him makes my hair stand on end, and though he's "flat" in the sense that we don't know anything about his character except that he's a freak, his execution of the character is great. I'm really scared for Michiru whenever Sosuke is in the scene.

bmwracer wrote:

Well, that's obvious... But Asami-chan and Ryo-kun's eyes are closed as well.

There must be some kinda symbolism there... As well as only Juri-chan and Masami-chan being bound together by the red ribbon... Sweat

Hmm well, since Eita's character was the first to sense that something was wrong with Michiru in terms of her BF, my guess is that his eyes are open because he's the observer, or the one who truly sees all. I mean, he's even seeing the strange draw Ruka has to Michiru...

Btw, did I mention that I love Eita now? I can't help it. He's in EVERYTHING, and I enjoy his character every time. I'm so glad his character exists in this particular drama.

In terms of the second episode, it's still strong for me. Everything is taken a little further, which is nice. Like...
Spoiler (highlight text to read):
we see Ruka in full action on her bike; we see Eita's character branch out and converse with other characters, we see the abuse between Michiru and Sosuke flesh out further, etc.

Asami right now is a wet blanket and holds no substance whatsoever. It seems like her only purpose is to balance the horror that is Sosuke, but she's not really succeeding against his power. She needs to be developed or "brought out" more.

I think Michiru is a darned fool so I'm very interested to see where things go from here.

I have one concern. With this episode and the last they seem to be providing way too much action/plot and I'm worried that they'll run out of stimulators and instead us filler garbage. Like...
Spoiler (highlight text to read):
Ruka's already kissed Michiru and has already referred to her as "my" Michiru. Sosuke has met Ruka now and already his disgusting nature has been revealed.

Too much is happening too fast. This can be tragic. So far, tho, so good. Smile

Yeah.. poor Asami gets pretty screwed in the first few eps for airtime. As far as plot/ep goes.. reserve your opinion for ep 3, where I claim almost no plot happens and it's all filler Smile (but it seems to turn up from there)

I think your testament on Michiru mirrors the consensus - we all felt she doesn't do much other than get beaten around and lusted after for the first episodes. I think the popular opinion on Sousuke differs though - I think Beem's "one-trick-pony" complaint was quite valid, even by ep. 2.

Oh, I just realized I might have misread your critique - too much action rather than plot is what you said, right? Then I agree... ep. 3 might be a little rough - but ep. 4 is a sharp upturn, I think.
