does the broth smell seafood-y? (what's the term for that) you know that kind of fishy smell thing. coz unlike thai's tomyum that puts so many herbs and stuff that nullifies the seafood smell, does chanko nabe? it looks good though _________________

I don't see how it can't smell fishy... But it's a good fishy smell, not a bad one. _________________

Yeah it doesn't hae an overly powerful, or noticeable, fishy smell...it just smells as fresh as the sea (given fresh ingredients of course). Sometimes the broth is made with miso as well...so you can imagine that wouldn't have any fishy smell. |

It doesn't have herbs per se...but the dashi (stock) is light because it gets infused with the ingredients' flavors...which include items other than seafood, such as chicken meatballs, mushrooms, onions, tofu, and perhaps other items. I definitely don't remember it being fishy in terms of the smell. |

I threw down some homemade tebasaki yesterday. I don't think they were as good as Furaibo but the dish was well received. I had to satisfy myself with my "victim's" ( ) reaction & the look and aroma of the dish.
