Yow, McCain's choice of a woman for VP was way out of left field... 
I suppose his tactic was:
1. To offset his age (he's 72, she's 44).
2. To attract voters (particularly those disgruntled by the fact that Hillary wasn't named as Obama's VP) who wanted to see a woman VP nominee.
Now will the election end up coming down to this: will the people choose to have the first black President or the first woman Vice-President??? |

I should've posted this in the "bothers you" thread, but i'll post it here.
So on wednesday at the end of our daily meeting at work, my manager asks us if we've all heard about all the propositions on the ballot for November's election.
Then he says that he'd like us to consider voting no on Prop 8. For those that are not in California, this prop is to basically ban same-sex marriage. So he proceeds to tell us that it's not that he's against gay and lesbian people or anything like that, but that if this passes, basically the sky will fall and the earth will stop spinning.
Well, not only is this highly unethical and against company rules. My coworker in the next cube (not part of the meeting) just got married last month. The sister of someone in the meeting is a lesbian considering marriage soon, and my other coworker's son just came out. And myself, who is counted among those barred marriage in the 1880 laws banning marriage for basically "colored or mixed race" people, were all appalled that he would say something like that to be exclusionary. |

I dunno...that's pretty ballsy and dumb for him to be lecturing people on how to vote. |

That IS unethical... I'm surprised that he didn't make some kind of ultimatum or something. 
He'd better hope someone doesn't report him for his idiotic request.
Wasn't Wal-Mart accused of something similar, telling people to vote for McCain over Obama for some self-serving reason?

Yeah...they order all their shit from China, stiff workers on benefits, and hire illegal aliens...of course they want McCain...cuz he wouldn't change a dayem thing so as to affect their business practices. |

Matt Damon: Putting Sarah Palin In White House 'Like A Really Bad Disney Movie'

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Matt Damon isn't mincing his words when it comes to Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Damon expressed his concern over putting Palin in the White House because he contends it may not be long before she's the Commander in Chief.
"I think there's a really good chance Sarah Palin could be president and I think that's a really scary thing," Damon said.
In making his assertion, Damon cited the age and health of Palin's running mate, 72-year-old Senator John McCain, who has a history of health issues.
"There's a one-in-three chance, if not more, that McCain doesn't survive his first term and it will be President Palin," the actor continued.
In expressing his concern, Damon likened the scenario to something from the big screen.
"It's like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mom... and she's president and facing down [Russian president] Vladimir Putin," Damon said. "It's absurd. It's totally absurd and I don't understand why more people aren't talking about it."
Damon also suggested McCain's selection of Palin wasn't based on her political qualifications.
"I know she was the mayor of a really small town. She's the Governor of Alaska for less than two years. I just don't understand it. I think the pick was made for political purposes, but in terms of governance, it's a disaster," he added. "I need to know if she really thinks that dinosaurs were really here 4,000 years ago. I want to know that. Because she's going to have the nuclear codes. I want to know that and I want to know if she tried to ban books. We can't have that."

It is... McCain's turned the election into some kinda surreal beauty contest.
Having Hillary as VP was scary enough with Bill most likely lurking around the White House, but Palin??
