I've recently finished two series:
Aoi Tori: Brilliant. Spellbinding, deliberately paced, shocking, with a almost lyrical beauty in places. I can understand why some people didn't like the second half, but it worked for me. Fantastic cast, including the child actors. It's one of those programmes which stays with you long after it's finished. Stylistically it reminded me of Stephen Poliakoff, my favourite UK TV writer/director.
Utahime: Improved as the show progressed, especially when the main plot started. I very nearly gave up on this during the first episode, but I'm glad I stuck with it. The ending did seem rather rushed, but again it worked for me. Refreshingly different.
Next up is LIFE, and I'm also going to work my way through the films in the torrent posted by 8thSin in the Movies thread. I've just watched Welcome to the Quiet Room, which was excellent.
Alas, I finished Kita no Kuni Kara. My Review: 9/10
Because of the random plot twists
Spoiler (highlight text to read):
(i.e. Ryoko sensei and the UFOs, random deaths, lack of closure, etc.)
I can't dub this drama as being perfect. But then, what drama is?
I found this drama the type that sucks you right in through characters that seem like real people. I was completely blown away by Yoshioka Hidetaka and Nakajima Tomoko, who were both children in this series. They were amazing. Their acting was flawless and they really were just being kids on screen. Their interactions were so real I'm almost starting to wonder how much of the lines were actually scripted.
I must applaud Tanaka Kunie and Taeshita Keiko as well, along with the writer(s). Not one character, except Hotaru, was completely likable. Each character had undesirable flaws that really put me off, but regardless, I loved the drama. Even the flaws were welcome. Only a good writer can achieve such a dynamic for the viewer.
I highly recommend this drama. WATCH IT!
Up next is Mop Girl! I've already seen the first five episodes, but I'm going to rewatch them with B-san's and Geez's hard work! Thanks B-san, for the send! _________________

I'm WAY behind the times, but I just finished Densha Otoko + the 3 specials, and am now in the process of watching Yama Onna Kabe Onna, Kiken na Aneki, and about to start Proposal Daisakusen. In new stuff, Scrap Teacher, Oh My Girl, and a few others whose names escape me.

I HATED those parts. It was stupid and weird and just didn't flow with the rest of the show. As for the lack of closure, I'm sure with all the specials, it tells what happens. I read about one special and was really saddened about something.
On topic: Hope to catch another episode of 14-sai no Haha tonight. _________________

Do you know if any of the specials are around? I've put them all on my wish list.
On Topic: Re-watching epi 2 of Mop Girl.

I was bored and tried to watch some episodes of Omiya-san 5 yesterday while "reading" for school. Maybe it's because I ended up not paying attention to either thing and so I didn't get much of an impression from the show or the book.
I also skimmed through the first ep of Ryuusei no Kizuna and like many others online have been saying, it was much lighter than expected. They tried to make some funny stuff but I wasn't feeling it too much. Nino was good but the other two (even though I liked Erika in Code Blue) weren't that great. Maybe I just have to get used to the feel of the show. _________________
Of course she is...she's been that way since we first saw her in episode 3 of PGSM...
She's come a long way, hasn't she?
I haven't watched any of Mop Girl...still waiting for all the subs before I start...It's been a long wait...
Her acting has definitely improved. I mean, she was weak in PGSM (tho still lovely) and was mediocre in Dear Friends. But she's very convincing in Mop Girl and has great comedic timing. It's nice to witness her growth as a young actress.
On Topic: I've re-watched the six episodes of Mop Girl! Now, epi 7. _________________

Omiya-san 5 wasn't that impressive to me. It somewhat caught my attention with some episodes, but not one of my favorite detective series.
On topic: First episode of Brother Beat. Seems really promising and I enjoyed it a lot. Reminds me a little of a Korean-type of drama in some instances, so this might go on my list of dramas to suggest to a Kdrama fan. _________________
