Episode 30 of Shinsengumi. Is there another drama with the shinsengumi story?
I'm pretty sure there have been several movies relating to them, but not any dramas that I can think of off hand. On topic: Up to ep 4 of Konna no koi hanashi still really good
Has Sawa Suzuki showed up yet as Yamanami's girlfriend? Her acting was one of the high points of this drama for me.

No, not yet! But now I'm looking forward to her. I'm really enjoying Yamanami's character!

I'm scared for him, though. Everyone is being killed off and I'm hoping he's not next.
I'm on epi 31 now. It's late tho... so I think I'll sneak the portable DVD player into bed with me so I can keep watching. _________________

Watching Ryuusei no Kizuna subtitled. I wasn't crazy about this show at first but it got better after the first couple episodes. I give it a 9/10 now. _________________

There's a 1998 TV series Shinsengumi Keppuroku. Veteran actor Watari Tetsuya stars as Kondo Isamu, and Amami Yuki has a very small role.
Recent films that have dealt with the Shinsengumi legend include Mibu Gishi Den (When the Last Sword is Drawn), made in 2003 which won a ton of Japan Academy Awards--Sato Koichi and Nakai Kiichi are the principal leads, Murata Takehiro has a minor role, and Natsukawa Yui and Nakatani Miki make token appearances; and Gohatto (Taboo), Oshima Nagisa's controversial 1999 film starring Beat Takeshi, Matsuda Ryuhei, and Asano Tadanobu which explored the gay issue in the Shinsengumi group.
The Shinsengumi story has been told many times. Iconic actors like Mifune Toshiro, Katsu Shintaro, and Ichikawa Raizo have done their versions of the story.

Thank you! I've heard that the one I'm watching is not true to actual events, but I'm enjoying it. So I thought I'd get something that WAS accurate. I'll hunt these movies down.

With the Shinsengumi story, accuracy is in the eye of the beholder. With the Taiga series you're watching, many of the events did in fact happen. How these events were interpreted in the series however, is open to much debate.
There is a schism regarding the historical truth about the Shinsengumi --some believe they were true patriots who were ardent defenders of Japanese society; others believe they were thugs and murderers who were only interested in benefitting themselves.

I'll continue this conversation in the Shinsengumi thread, shin, if you don't mind. You have my complete interest right now! _________________

I watched the last episodes of Scandal and Oh My Girl today. Scandal ended up being better than I thought it would be in the first few episodes. Oh My Girl stayed a slow, mediocre show all the way through. I'd recommend it for the younger audiences though. Like, 10 and under. _________________

O! Musa, she has a arrived! I don't have an opinion on her yet, but I'll keep you posted.
Btw, I have a question. Is there a reason for the saved head vs. the full head of hair? In the beginning Kondo had a shaved head, and now he's let it grow in... and before, Soji shaved his head to prove his old enough to go with Kondo... _________________

Ah, I forgot I finished Ame to Yume no Ato ni too! I actually cried less in the second half than the first. I think I had exhausted most of my tears. Such a moving show. Highly recommended. _________________

I also just finished watching the last episode of Scandal.

I would say the ending was rather flat and ridiculous. Mainly the whole resolution with Shiraishi and Kukita. I did not get the sense that they had any feelings for each other and thus the whole ending between them and the reasoning for the entire crux of the show totally fell apart. Basically I did not like these two characters at all and could care less if they could get back together.
I do think the friendship between the four ladies and the stories of Takako and Tamaki were interesting. Not so much for the two younger women.

I agree on Shiraishi and Kukita. The latter creeped me out just from his first appearance, because of his hair. It didn't seem like they really cared for anyone but themselves either, which I was also disappointed in. But other than that I enjoyed the finale.

Absolutely, the hair and his entire demeanor was creepy. Not to mention what he does in ep. 9.
