Ambassador Discovers Bride Is Bearded, Cross-Eyed Behind Veil
02-10-10 02:33 PM
An Arab ambassador in Dubai has had his marriage annulled after discovering that his bride, behind her veil, was bearded and cross-eyed.
The couple had only met a few times during their courtship. Each of these times the woman had worn a niqab, an Islamic veil that covers most of the face.
After the marriage contract was signed in Dubai, the ambassador tried to kiss his new wife. However, as he removed the veil, he was shocked at what he saw.
"He was absolutely horrified," a guest said. "The bride had a nice personality, but there was a good reason why she was hiding her looks behind a veil."
The unnamed ambassador went straight to court to annul the marriage, claiming his wife was "bearded and cross-eyed", leaving his wife in tears. The groom claims he had been shown pictures of the ugly bride's prettier sister.
The Islamic Sharia court annulled the marriage but refused to compensate the ambassador for the estimated 500,000 dirhams ($136,000) in gifts he had bought the woman.
To add insult to injury, the man also demanded the woman be sent to a specialist who examined her hormonal deficiencies. The specialist reported the woman was normal and suffered from no hormonal deficiencies.

That ish is absolutely ridiculous to the nth degree. You get married to someone and you don't even now what the heck she looks like.

Thanks for posting that "feel good' video regarding the rescue of the dog/puppies and of your daughter. "Thumbs up" to your daughter for taking in the dog and her puppies.

Well yeah I agree...by and large they are just appointments to pay back political favors.

No worries...I understood you, clearly. Crystal. I guess ambassadorial appointments are much the same the world over. Perhaps if you are in a less affluent country the nature of the job might be less cushy and more real.

8.8 Earthquake strikes central Chile
SANTIAGO, Chile – A massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck Chile early Saturday, killing at least 78 people, collapsing buildings and setting off a tsunami.
A huge wave reached a populated area in the Robinson Crusoe Islands, 410 miles (660 kilometers) off the Chilean coast, said President Michele Bachelet.
Tsunami warnings were issued over a wide area, including South America, Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines, Russia and many Pacific islands.
"It has been a devastating earthquake," Interior Minister Edmundo Perez Yoma told reporters.
Bachelet said the death toll was at 78 and rising. She declared a "state of catastrophe" in central Chile.
"We have had a huge earthquake, with some aftershocks," Bachelet said from an emergency response center. She urged Chileans not to panic.
In the 2 1/2 hours following the 90-second quake, the U.S. Geological Survey reported 11 aftershocks, five of them measuring 6.0 or above.
Northridge was 6.7 and scared the crap out of me. I can't imagine 8.8

This must make the recent Japan quake seem like a cheap thrill from a 25 cent vibrating bed at the local Motel 6.
