Hiroshi Abe stars in Higashino adaptation

Hiroshi Abe (45) will star in a new drama series this spring, taking on the role of a police detective. Titled "Shinzanmono," the drama is based on the latest novel in the "Kyoichiro Kaga" series by mystery author Keigo Higashino (52).

The "Shinzanmono" novel is the eighth installment of the "Kyoichiro Kaga" series. Released last September, it has already sold 380,000 copies. Many of Higashino's other works have already been adapted to television in recent years, including "Ryusei no Kizuna" and "Galileo."

The story is set in the Ningyo-cho area of Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Abe plays the detective Kaga, who has just been transferred to the local police station and immediately takes charge of a murder case.

"Shinzanmono" will be aired on TBS in the Sunday 9:00pm time slot. The series begins in April.

it looks like next season's dramas are more promising to me as I get to see quite many veteran japanese actors, which is good news for me

I usually choose not to watch dramas with lots of young ikemen in them. I often get disappointed by their quality of acting even though not all of them act badly. Somehow dramas starred by veterans impress me more

I second that!!! The veteran actors give so much more depth to their performances.

Since there's not much going on as far as new J-dramas is concerned, I tried to watch "Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge". I tried 2 episodes and couldn't take anymore. They have 3 pretty boys that were really 1 dimensional....not even 2 dimensional, characters. I prefer a realistic stories with veteran actors. I really want to see the upcoming drama with Abe Hiroshi and Natsukawa Yui.

It's not Abe Hiroshi with Yui-chan... It's Watanabe Ken.

Thanks for correcting me! I like Watanabe Ken, too. I really enjoyed him in a 1987 Taiga drama called Dokuganryu Masamune but I didn't know it was him until he became famous out here in the Last Samurai.

Bit of trivia: A rather young Watanabe-kun (20's) was also in the popular film Tampopo.

Thanks! I just watched that one recently...another good one! I really enjoy dramas that show a "slice of life"...whatever it may be (with great acting, of course).
