They said from a contractual perspective it makes more sense because he can negotiate based on the most recent collective bargaining agreement which is more favorable. I'm sure Boston would love to keep him but that guy is getting worn down as time progresses, and he ain't exactly young, by NBA standards.

As a team, Boston isn't young by NBA standards.

Yet they got to the finals and took it to the limit.

i honestly thought that spero dedes was a great young broadcaster with chick hearn-like potential. too bad he followed the money to nfl play-by-play. i miss having that "go-to" commentator.

on the paul pierce opting out note, it makes sense for both sides. 1) pierce can get a no-trade clause in his contract since he's been in the league for 8 years and under the service of the same team for at least 4; they can't add that clause on an extension, it's considered too drastic of a change. gives him a lot of power in the sense that the celtics can't just toss him aside at the end of his career (which seems to be coming sooner than later). and 2) he definitely won't command as high a salary as the last year of his current deal, so the celtics will save some money if they resign him to a longer but less lucractive per year contract. and if he signs elsewhere, they can immediately start rebuilding around rondo and perkins (no more ray ray or pierce).

in the end, WHO CARES! lakers for life!!!

Looks like Rivers is staying put in Boston, honoring the final year of his contract... But what will his team look like in 2010-2011?

If Phil retires from the Lakers, I hope they can get Byron Scott. Fingers crossed

brian shaw pulled his name out of the cavs position meaning scott is probably headed there. so i guess shaw is the lakers' future coach when philly phil is gone?

but he doesn't know the triangle. i'm figuring that the lakers are gonna stick with the triangle until kobe retires and then they rebuild from scratch. currently, kobe, pau, and ronron are signed through the 2013/14 season, so i'd expect that phil stays for one more year, then the lockout season, then shaw gets a chance for kobe's last couple years on this contract.

btw, did you read that kobe put off surgery so long in his finger that it's likely he'll have to wear a splint for the rest of his career, then be in pain for the rest of his life? the arthritis in the middle knuckle of his right index finger is possibly beyond repair.

You would be correct:

Cavs set to hire Scott as coach

Byron Scott has reached agreement on a three-year contract to become the Cleveland Cavaliersf new coach, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The deal is expected to be finalized on Thursday.

Negotiations between the Cavs and Scott picked up after Brian Shaw withdrew from consideration on Wednesday.

Shaw said he never received a formal offer from the Cavs, but didnft feel comfortable with the teamfs Thursday deadline to make a hire.

gI know they have a timeline to hire a coach and I wasnft able to meet that timeline,h Shaw told Yahoo! Sports. gI didnft want to hold things up. Itfs a great organization.h

Shaw wouldnft comment on why he took issue with the timeline, but sources close to him said he wanted more clarity on whether LeBron James planned to return. Shaw also could become a candidate for the Los Angeles Lakersf coaching job should Phil Jackson retire.

Scott told Y! Sports on Monday that he was interested in coaching the Cavaliers regardless of whether James returns.

gI would coach there without LeBron,h Scott said. gBut they got a good shot at getting him back. Without him, they would probably go from 60 wins to 30 wins. But [without James], itfs still a better job than when I first started in New Jersey and itfs still a better job than when I first started in New Orleans.h

Hmm, I don't see why they need to stick with the triangle... As my brother always said (actually complained), "If the triangle is so great, why aren't more/all teams using it?"

Yup... The article said he has the finger of an 83-year old man. Sweat

If they can do hip replacement surgery, why not knuckle replacement surgery? Mr Green

Phil's decided to make a run for a three-peat and his 12th championship... Victory! Peace!

It still woulda been nice to have Byron Scott as the new Laker coach... Sweat

Good news. Although Byron wouldve been a great successor.
