I recently watched this drama called Anata no Tonari ni Dareka Iru starring Yui Natsukawa and Ikki Kitamura. I really enjoyed this drama cause it had a unique storyline and pretty good acting.

I was wondering if anyone out there watched this drama> My Japanese is limited so I wanted to know...

Spoiler warning

What was the legend about that weird bug about? Why did Kitamura's character go after Natsukawa's character and her daughter? I thought it was because he was obsessed with her, but then there was that scene where he kidnapped both of them and took them to the beach house. He told her he didn't need her anymore, but just the daughter. What was the reasoning? Crazy

If anyone one could explain this, I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

I saw this the year it was released, and it was interesting, but a little odd at some points.

The basic part of the story is:

The bug is like the soul of the guy, kind of controls any person he crawls into, and that's why the character is always able to live, I think...

But the thing with the Woman & her daughter is that it follows the story of the bug, in which the bug/ man, could never find a woman that would LOVE him, so he kept coming back (the same age) and would try to get the next decendent to fall in love with him, but it never works out, so he usually kills the mother, keeps her in the coffin in the basement, and takes the daughter away, where she'll have no memory of her mother, then one day fall in love with him when she's older....

It's kind of grotesque if you think about it, but it was a nice story...

Thanks so much for the explaination! It really clears up a lot. This drama was definitely weird, but I was hooked because it was unpredictable. I think the casting was really good too.

Some of the older dramas from the early 2000's are starting to show up on YouTube. Sometimes subbed, sometimes not. I'm not a big fan of the horror/supernatural genre, but I really liked this one and it has a great cast.

All 10 episodes are on YouTube, with subs, here's the link to episode 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzwv06xBtUY
