Mao Inoue to star in 2015 NHK Taiga

NHK has officially announced that actress Inoue Mao will be starring in their Taiga drama for 2015 entitled "Hana Moyu".

Inoue previously starred in NHK's morning drama "Ohisama" aired back in 2011, and she also hosted the Kohaku Uta Gassen in 2011.

"Hana Moyu" will feature a brave woman who lived during the days of the end of the Edo period.

Inoue will play the woman named "Fumi", a younger sister of Yoshida Shoin, the thinker in the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate.

Regarding her role, Inoue said, "Since I got the offer a month ago, I am still in the middle of studying history. I feel a little uneasy as she is not what is called a key figure, but I hope the viewers could feel familiar with history from Fumi's point of view who was around those who changed history. I would like to play a woman with a stalwart heart."

She also said that she'd always dreamed of being part of the Taiga drama.

Oshima Satomi and Miyamura Yuko are in charge of the script, and Tsuchiya Katsuhiro is the producer for the drama.

"Hana Moyu" will air for one year starting in January in 2015.

Mao Inoue takes blame for low taiga drama ratings

On April 20th, actress Inoue Mao appeared at a preview event for the taiga drama 'Hanamoyu' together with her on-screen husband Higashide Masahiro.

The audience rating for the drama dropped to a new low of 9.8% with its 15th episode which aired on the 12th of this month. It recovered a bit on the 19th with a rating of 10.7%, but that is still far from a relieving improvement.

Inoue made a comment about the ratings and said, "I am the starring actress, so it has to be from my lack of ability. I have no choice but to get it together until the end."

At the event, they screened the 18th episode of 'Hanamoyu' which heralds the start of the drama's 2nd arch.

Personally, I don't think Mao is the problem. We're up to episode 8 here and I've watched every episode. But I find myself asking, "Who are these guys and why should I care?" Head Scratch

At least you made it to 8 episodes. I read the synopsis and got bored halfway.

Mao Inoue resigns from her agency

Her latest CM with Hiroshi Tamaki for Takara Holdings just went on air April 22nd. It's reported she will leave once adjusting the contract details.

Inoue gained popularity starring in TBS's "Kid's War" but put her activities on hold in 2004 to study for university entrance exams.

Afterwards, she transferred to seventh avenue and made her return in 2005. She made her big break in the drama "Hanayori Dango". Then in 2011 she played the heroine in NHK's morning drama "Ohisama" and hosted the Kohaku Uta Gassen. Last year she starred in NHK's taiga drama "Hana Moyu"

^ And so, got to go with a new agency.

Mao Inoue joins agency Un Neuf

Inoue Mao has joined Un Neuf, the agency of Kishibe Ittoku, as reported on 9 December. She had left her previous agency Seventh Avenue when her contract with them ended on 31 August this year. Although she has never worked with Kishibe before, they are acquaintances and coincidentally share the same birthday i.e. 9 January.

Following her move, Inoue and Kishibe issued a handwritten joint statement to the media recently to announce the news.

And the moral of the story is: If you're going to be the lead in a Taiga that, to put it kindly, isn't very good, save your money because it may be awhile before you work again.

Mao Inoue to star in Kansai TV/FujiTV 2016 Fall drama

Inoue Mao will be starring in the new Kansai TV / FujiTV Autumn 2017 drama "Ashita no Yakusoku" (Tomorrow's Promise) which will begin its run from October 2017 in the Tuesdays 9pm timeslot. This will be her first appearance in a drama series since her 2015 NHK Taiga drama "Hana Moyu" and her transfer to a new agency at the end of last year.

The original story features Inoue as the 29-year-old lead character Aizawa Hinata who works as a counsellor at Tsubakigaoka Senior High School and aims to be the last adult who the students can depend on other than their parents and teachers. However, while devoting herself to the pyschological care of her students who are struggling with problems in school or at home, she is troubled by her own relationship with her hysterical and emotional mother who intervenes too much into her life. Just then, Hinata gets a confession of love from a male student who had been skipping school and was being counselled by her but is shocked to find out on the following day that he died under mysterious circumstances. While trying to find out the truth behind this case, she comes face-to-face with the darkness of human beings and discovers what is most important about living and how a parent-and-child relationship should really be like.

Inoue commented that the problems in the school are a reflection of the times and she hoped that this drama will be a source of support to those who have similar problems in their lives. As she had always wanted to act in something which depicts the relationship between a parent and a child, she was very glad to receive the offer for this drama and felt a strong sense of responsibility to tackle such a delicate and difficult theme. In particular, she found her character Hinata to be very difficult to play because she dishes out advice to the students as a counselor but cannot stand firm against her meddling mother in her private life.
