Strawberry on the shortcake [ストロベリー・オンザ・ショートケーキ] Painful to watch, but probably worth it. [Rating: 6/10] I really started watching this because of Kubozuka Yosuke, because he has yet to disappoint me with his amazing acting. I quit after the first few episodes, because I didn't like the story at that point, and I didn't like any of the characters--including Yosuke's. I'd already downloaded the whole thing, though, so I continued to watch it at about an episode a month. The story was too slow, not to mention somewhat pointless seeming and depressing, and overall, it just didn't pull me in. Somewhere around episode 8 or so, though, I started getting interested, and I ended up watching the entire end of the series at once.
I've gotta say, the last few episodes redeemed the whole series in my eyes. I realize others could feel different, but after an entire series of one depressing, unrequited love after another, and knowing this was JUST the kind of series where all the characters killed themselves (or each other) in a tragic, depressing way, I was so happy when everything worked out, and everyone was happy in the end. Also, I finally got to like Kyokofs and Hideaki's characters (until the last few episodes, I really kind of hated them).
I don't know if I'd exactly 'recommend' you see this series, but if you're a big fan of any of the 4 main characters, you should probably give it a try, because I thought they all performed very, very well (particularly, of course, the incredibly talented Kubozuka Yosuke!). Final thoughts? This series was painful to watch, but Ifd say it was worth it.
