Anego [アネゴ]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
I liked this drama a lot overall, but I took off a couple of points because I really didn't love the ending. The entire last episode left me feeling extremely unsatisfied. I wish it there had been an epilogue, even, just to give us a taste of what happens after the point where the series actually ends. Having said that, though, the other nine episodes are good. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and Naoko (Anego) is an extremely sympathetic character.
Anna-san no Omame [アンナさんのおまめ]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Very funny. Becky is hilarious and adorable. This is a series I've rewatched just because it's so cute and funny. (Also, I neeed Anna and Lily's apartment. I NEEEEEED IT.)
Around 40 [アラウンド40]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Better than I thought it would be. Very moving and enjoyable.
Asuko March! [アスコーマーチ!]
Bijo ka Yajuu [美女か野獣]
Rating: 4/10 (Bought & Watched)
I just couldn't get into this one. It's the first dorama I ever stopped watching halfway through. I might give it another shot someday, but for now I'm going to move on to another series.
Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon [美少女戦士セーラームーン]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Cheesetastic! If you don't take it seriously and you're a fan of Sailor Moon, you will get a kick out of it.
BOSS
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
I enjoyed this drama much more than I expected to. I only ordered it because I really liked Yuki Amami in Around 40. Police dramas aren't normally my thing, but I'm glad I watched this one. I especially enjoyed the fact that the last episode brought in elements from the first. That's pretty rare in a lot of the drama I've watched. I do recommend this. It's a good mix of funny and serious, and Amami-san is wonderful, as always.
BOSS Season 2
Celeb to Binbo Taro [セレブと貧乏太郎]

CHANGE

Densha Otoko [電車男]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
I'll be honest here: sometimes I found Yamada just too damn pathetic to stand. All the weeping and whining whenever anything happened... UGH. That said, I did root for him and Hermes, and the funny moments and sweet moments are genuine. (I particularly like the "moe" sequence.) It's a classic dorama, so I'd definitely recommend it to others.
First Class [ファースト クラス]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
I'm still waiting for the final episode to post, but overall, this was VERY unbelievable. The progression of the storyline was pretty over the top, even by dorama standards. And if more of the characters were likable, it might not be so high-tension, but it would probably be more watchable.
Fuyu no Sakura [冬のサクラ]
Gakko ja Oshierarenai! [学校じゃ教えられない!]
Rating: 2/10 (Bought & Watched)
Could not get into this to save my life. Didn't even make it past episode two. Blerg. Mai-chan is adorable (I can't recall the name of the actress who plays her, but I always like her), but even she isn't enough to make me want to watch more of this.
Gokusen [ごくせん]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
The lead is so funny and adorable, and she's probably the only actress I've ever seen who really does look different in ponytails and glasses. Pretty formulaic, sure, but funny and charming, too.
Gokusen Season 2 [ごくせん2]
(Bought)
GTO [麻辣教師]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
I could not stop watching this! The chemistry between the two leads is incredible, and I'm not at all surprised that they wound up married in real life.
Guilty Akuma to Keiyakushita Onna [ギルティ 悪魔と契約した女]
(Bought)
Hana Yori Dango [花より男子]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
Soooooooo good! What it lacks in length (compared to the original), it makes up for in charm and humor. I can't wait for HYD2!
Hana Yori Dango Season 2 [花より男子]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
I love this story and these characters so much. It was, of course, such a crazy, contrived story, but who cares?! It's Hana Yori Dango! I think some people didn't like the ending, but I did. I found it a little harder to believe that Tsukushi and Tsukasa would still be together at times, but I'm obviously glad they made it. The original series is a must-see, and if you're going to watch it, you might as well complete the experience and watch HYD2 and HYD~Final (a feature-length film).
Haruka 17 [はるか 17]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
Cute. A good way to kill some time.
Heaven's Flower ~ The Legend of ARCANA [ヘブンズ・フラワー]
Hotaru no Hikari [ホタルノヒカリ]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
So sweet and funny! I really love this dorama, and I can't wait to see the sequel.
Hotaru no Hikari Season 2 [ホタルノヒカリ]
Juui Dolittle [獣医ドリトル]
(Bought)
Kiina ~ Fukano Hanzai Sosakan [キイナ]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Gets more than a little repetitive, but it's pretty decent. The main character--Kiina--is very sweet, awkward but likable.
Kimi wa Petto [きみはペット]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Good, with a few unexpected twists (I never read the comic). The actors are all likable (except when they're not supposed to be), and the story is very, very sweet. You can hardly go wrong with Matsumoto Jun!
Koi ga shitai Koi ga shitai Koi ga shitai [恋がしたい恋がしたい]
Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched)
It had its moments, but the things I didn't like I REALLY didn't like. Mikan was almost too awkward with all the shuffling around and stalking. The end was heartwarming, though. The acting was good, and the cameo by a *very* young Koyuki was a pleasant surprise!
Konkatsu! [婚カツ!]
(Bought)
LADY ~ Saigo no Hanzai Profile ~ [LADY〜最後の犯罪プロファイル〜]
Love Revolution [ラブレボリューション]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
This was a nicely-paced series that would probably go over best with an older viewer with more mature tastes. The drama here is mainly internal; characters have to hide their feelings quite a lot, and most of the turmoil is played out in tight shots of actors' faces. We get only glimpses what they really feel as the drama unfolds. I do feel like the show lost itself a bit around episodes eight, nine, and ten; the conflicts felt a little forced. But it's worth getting through to get to the last two episodes, which have nicely satisfying resolutions (even if a couple aren't totally believable). The chemistry between the lead couple--Asaoka (Esumi Makiko) and Suga (Fujiki Naohito)--is great, and Asaoka's best friend Mariko (Yonekura Ryoko) is a conflicted character with some depth (which can be lacking sometimes in secondary characters in dorama). LOVE REVOLUTION might be a bit slow or boring for viewers who are used to more comedy or high-tension drama and cliffhangers, but it's a satisfying series for those willing to give it a try.
Love Shuffle [ラブシャッフル]

Lunch no Joou [ランチの女王]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Very cute, harmless fluff. Made me SO HUNGRY though.
Magerarenai Onna [曲げられない女]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Saki's outbursts got very annoying. The last blow-up in the hospital just made me uncomfortable to watch. That said, I did like this drama, and I liked how it ended. The coupling-up happened the way I thought it should from the beginning (no spoilers on that); the people I thought should be together wound up together and the ones who I didn't think made a good match didn't pair up. Hooray! Nothing worse than finishing a series and STILL not understanding how in the hell certain characters wound up together. I would recommend this. Saki is kind of (okay, very) annoying, but the supporting characters are all great (except Masato, who's kind of a cartoon dick for most of the show, but he's redeemed. This is dorama, after all).
Marumo no Okite [マルモのおきて]
Moso Shimai ~ Bungaku Toiuna no Motoni [妄想姉妹 ~ 文學という名のもとに]

Mother
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
The best drama I've ever seen, hands-down. The acting is incredible, the story is paced perfectly, and the little girl could give lessons to any number of older actresses on technique; she is a natural. This series has the biggest heart. Prepare to sob.

Otomen [オトメン(乙男)]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
Once I got past the weird references to President Obama, I really enjoyed this. (I figure I'll give it to them considering all the weird, offensive Japanese stereotypes we've had here in the U.S. Otomen's Obama is payback for Mickey Rooney's role in Breakfast at Tiffany's if you ask me.) Asuka and Ryo are two of the most genuinely sweet characters I've seen in a while--I actually understood why they love each other so much. I even had a hard time understanding why Tsukushi and Tsukasa from HYD put up with each other sometimes, and I LOVE them, but I totally got it with Ryo and Asuka. It's a very, very silly series, but it embraces its silliness in a way that's endearing. Don't go in expecting anything heavy-handed and you'll probably like this a lot.
Rebound [リバウンド]
Reinoryokusha Odagiri Kyoko no Uso [霊能力者 小田霧響子の嘘]

Satorare [サトラレ]
Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched)
I'll be honest: I wasn't interested enough to finish this one. It's not that it isn't good, and I might go back someday and watch the last half (I watched episodes 1-5). I've noticed that I'm not really into supernatural dorama, which might also be part of it. Satorare isn't super science fictiony or anything, the only "weird" part is that everyone can hear what the satorare is thinking, and he doesn't realize it. But the agency designed to keep the satorare from knowing what he is and all the conspiracy around that... I don't know. I prefer slice-of-life dorama much more. I would say that the acting is pretty good (the female lead is especially good), and even if I wasn't crazy about it, I think it's worth giving it a shot if the premise intrigues you.

Trick [トリック]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
It was really funny and pretty good, but the last two episodes (especially the last one) were just so convoluted they kind of ruined it for me. I guess I'd still recommend it, though.

I'm in the middle of episode 8, and I'm not sure how I feel about this. I like Kazuya a lot, but the whole "BUSUNAKO! BUSUNAKO! BUSUNAKO!" thing is getting really, really old. The first couple of times I got it, but it's like, "Really? Every single time Kyohei says it Sunako's going to think he's serious and try to blow things up with lightning?" I was going to write a kind of meh review of the show until I started episode 8 though. The scenes with Kyohei's family nearly had me in tears. Oh, and I'll give it to the theme song. Very catchy. Will be in my head for a month. *EDIT* - Okay, now I've finished it. The last three episodes were much more serious than the first seven, which I actually liked. I know this was a comedy, but sometimes it was har dto suspend my disbelief, even though I'd seen much sillier dorama before. There were genuinely touching moments toward the end of the series. I will say (spoiler-free) that I HATED the "twist" in the last episode, but the final scene in Sunako's room was so sweet it nearly made up for that. I won't watch this one again, though.

Hana Yori Dango [花より男子]
Hana Yori Dango = Happy [Rating: 10/10]
Though I was expecting a longer series, I absolutely loved the live action "Hana Yori Dango." All of the characters were perfect, especially the leads, and I even skipped half a day of work to finish the last couple of episodes (only, don't tell my boss). Highly recommended to J-dorama fans everywhere!
