41 minutes done. At least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Update - made a big push and just finished it. Works with my version (the 3 videos combined into one big one. Which actually seems to be a good approach. After all, all three combined are only 98 minutes so pretty much like a normal movie).

When I get the third part to work on, I'll probably try to put chapters in to make it easy to jump from part to part - but I have to go back and find out how I created the chapters for the original movie because I forgot!

So far there are 502 time entries covering about 75.5 minutes so the third part will have about 23 more minutes and I'll be done this part of the project. Still hope to do the "First and Last Concert".

Just watching the 3rd part, it looks like it is mostly about where scene were and how they did things. At least that's what it seems like without a translation. So I doubt we'll learn much more about the girls and what they did from that section. The concert video probably is the next best chance for more insights there. Don't know if my translator will be doing that. She did originally say she would do all these things, but I think she found it was a lot more work than she expected! We'll see eventually. There is certainly a lot of non-verbal stuff in the concert when they are playing which will make it easier, but when they do talk, I think it is pretty extensive.

Hmmm, had no idea what that was about so I just looked it up - still don't know what it is about since I'm only about 1 minute into it, but I should note one very important item - Juri uses a Mac!!!! nyah

Okay, here's the full translation for Ao Akua (which is pretty good since I'm only 70+ minutes into it!):

"Visiting Maui"
"Having a great time"
"Wish you were here"

Whew, glad I'm done that!

Well, I've been watching "Swing Girls" again. I just discovered that my 23" TV gives me a better picture than my 24" Apple Cinema Display.

The changes are small, but the result is that I'm noticing things that I never noticed before. Most things, if I actually look for it on my monitor, I'll still see it just fine, but it is the change in clarity that actually is drawing my attention to different things.

For example, I never noticed the woman from the supermarket who, in the audience, is carrying on quite a bit during the last part of "Sing Sing Sing" when the girls are all standing and the crowd is getting into it more.

But I'm sitting pretty close to my 23" TV. wonder how the relative distance affects things? Mine certainly takes up a good portion of my field of vision. A 47" or maybe even bigger set up across the room would probably be smaller in effect.

For my ongoing titanic task of attempting to learn Japanese I was wondering if any of the faithful readers of this forum knows if any of the characters in SW speak without the regional dialect. I can tell the girls do but what about the teachers or others, do any speak what I guess would be considered standard Japanese? My ear is not that good to tell yet.

Anything new with the translations and subtitles? The more Japanese I learn the more I can see that subtitles in SG either leave words out or add words in depending on the situation and time available. It can't be easy to do.

I would guess that, since all the characters (except for the TV news woman) are supposedly from that area, that all had to do the regional accent. The concert announcer could have been different too, since I don't know how far away the concert location was.

Of course, it is possible they only focused on the people in the band itself since they were most important - and it could always be said that teachers could have grown up in other areas.

Nothing knew about finishing the "making of" translation. I try not to put too much pressure on the lady doing it. Since this has taken most of the school year so far, I suspect she isn't going to want to do the First and Last Concert - originally she said she would and that is still possible, but with how much work it's been, I can't blame her if she doesn't want to do more. We'll see.

Actually, I did, via an email. But like I said, I don't think she realized how big a project it would be. I sure didn't.

I'm just hoping I'll get the rest of the present project back before school ends this month! Of course, they could send it to me any time, but I figure the most pressure to finish would be before then.

Well, a little bit of good news - no, haven't got the last part of the "Making of" video yet. But I did talk to the lady today, trying not to apply any pressure. In the course of the conversation, she mentioned eventually getting to the "First and last concert" vid.

I was figuring the job was just too time consuming and she would just finish the first video and stop, but apparentnly she still plans to keep going.

I am now more comfortable with my Japanese language teacher and feel I could ask her to help me (really you guys) translate a small portion of "Making Of" or the "Final Concert" if that would any help. At this stage I don't want to ask her to do a lot but if there is a small portion you have in mind let me know. I will transfer the audio to a WAV file and send it to her.
