Folks,
Was at Nihonmachi SF the other day and saw Doramas for sale, in DVD format, that had English subtitles, for about $50. They appeared to be complete series.

They had quite a selection.

This may be old news, as I haven't surfed YesAsia.com in many moons.

YesAsia has sold dramas for ages, but I can't say that I've seen any WITH English subs... Many movies on the other hand, do have English subs.

Yeah, I was surprised too.

Going to buy one later this afternoon and check it out, will post later with observations.

If it works well, think of it as a source for high quality (in terms of picture quality) Doramas.

Heya Beemer, who's the new lady in your sig file and avatar?

Hi there, PCM -- Almost saw the face behind the cream pie... I was there at JP Video on Sunday browsing through their anime shelves. (Was that you yelling "What? Fifty bucks?!?") The doramas they sell are actually Chinese releases. If you look at the back of the box, there is a little sticker that shows where they buy them from. I'm pretty sure you can mail order them direct for half the price. BTW, if you're into renting JP movies, you should check Le Video on 9th Ave. They've got a better selection than JP Video.

Howdy, I was there on Sunday afternoon, took my mom. Don't recall if I made a comment about the pricing. Am familiar with Le Video, have been going there forever. They have the best selection of foreign films in the SF Bay Area. Used to live in that neighborhood a long time ago.

Oh cool. I'm going to have to go and check that out some time. What store did you find it at? (I'm guessing Kinokuniya or Mikado.)

It's Japan Video. The one in the Kintetsu Mall on your left when you enter from Peace Plaza. (Make sure you know your left from your right or you'll end up in jewelry and female lingerie.)

Looked at it this weekend, they're from Malaysia.

Interesting. Chinese releases of Japanese dramas sold in Malaysia with English subs. Reminds me of the Swedish singer who sang French operas in Italian for an American audience in a Edith Wharton novel...
