Matsuyama Kenichi and Koyuki has been dating

Matsuyama Kenichi and Koyuki have been rumoured together since collaborating on the film Kamui last year. While the two never admitted to the rumours at first, earlier in the week both parties finally acknowledged the relationship while attending separate functions. It seems their relationship has reached a new level. The latest issue of Japanese magazine Josei Seven reports that Matsuyama has moved in with Koyuki and her family. It seems like her family has already accepted Matsuyama as their son-in-law. Apparently Koyuki began renovating her house last fall to prepare for Matsuyama.

However, when the magazine interviewed Matsuyamafs mother, she said she was unaware of the move. But a close source to the couple said that itfs only because Matsuyama has not informed his mother yet.

Kenichi Matsuyama to star in NTV 2015 Summer drama

Matsuyama Kenichi will be starring in the NTV summer 2015 drama "Do Konjo Gaeru" which will begin its run from July in the Saturdays 9pm timeslot. This will be his first leading role in a private network drama since NTV's winter 2009 drama "Zenigeba". The drama which is based on the comedic manga by Yoshizawa Yasumi and first made into an anime in 1972, talks about a junior high student Hiroshi who accidentally trips over a stone while walking in a park and flattens a frog named Pyonkichi that results in it being stuck to his T-shirt in 2D form. As a result, Hiroshi and Pyonkichi have to live together.

However, the drama series which is the first real-life adaptation of the manga, will be an original story set 16 years after Hiroshi's first encounter with Pyonkichi when he becomes a 30-year-old man who's tired of life's struggles and has achieved nothing so far. Due to an incident, Hiroshi decides to do something to change his current situation. For the scenes with Pyonkichi on Hiroshi's T-shirt, they will be done by VFX.

Kenichi Matsuyama to star in movie version of "Chinyuuki - Taro to Yukai na Nakamatachi"

Matsuyama Kenichi will be starring in the new adaptation movie for legendary manga "Chinyuuki ~ Taro to Yukai na Nakamatachi" which will be shown in cinemas from 27 February. The manga which was serialised by Man Gataro in Shukan Shonen Jump since 1990, accumulated sales of 4 million copies to date. Filming has been completed. Although news of the movie adaptation had been circulating online for some time, this is the first time that details for the movie have been announced. The original manga's author Man Gataro commented in jest that he had told the staff that he wanted the worst movie in film history to be made for his manga but they ended up making something which was interesting. As such, he joked that he should get the director of "XX no Kyojin" to remake the movie. The movie was directed by Yamaguchi Yudai while the script was written by Matsubara Shu.

Matsuyama plays the lead character Yamada Taro and will appear with his hair shaved off and wearing underwear only. With regard to this, he commented that he took on this movie since there was none so far which literally stripped him naked and he felt that this was a "good way" for him to take off his clothes. As Matsuyama had prior experience in playing characters from mangas which were widely praised e.g. Hiroshi from "Do Konjo Gaeru" and L from "Death Note", he was seen as the best person to take on the character of Yamada Taro although he didn't look too close to the image in the manga.

In order to stay true to the essence of the original manga, the movie version tried to replicate the same atmosphere and jokes Due to the fact that there were many vulgar lines which cannot be shown on TV due to censorship issues, it had been said that this was a work which couldn't be adapted into a real-life movie.

Details about the rest of the cast and story will be made known on a later date.

Kenichi Matsuyama to play genius shogi player in new movie

Matsuyama Kenichi will play a genius shogi player in the new movie "Satoshi no Seishun" (The Youth of Satoshi) directed by Mori Yoshitaka which will be screened in autumn this year. The movie which is based on a non-fiction novel by Osaki Yoshio about a genius shogi player Murayama Satoshi who passed away at the young age of 29 years old in 1998 due to bladder cancer. Despite being regarded as the genius in West Japan and rivals with Habu Yoshiharu in East Japan, Murayama couldn't realise his dream of rising to the Meijin rank due to his early demise.

As Murayama suffered from kidney nephrosis since he was a child, he was constantly hospitalised. His father then suggested that his son learn shogi which led to the latter starting to dream of being a Meijin one day. Due to his illness, Murayama put on weight gradually thus leading to his big build. Despite his health condition, Murayama poured everything into his shogi career and was still talking about shogi while on his deathbed.

In order to look like Murayama, Matsuyama started to increase his food intake since last summer by eating every few hours and put on a lot of weight. In addition, he started to visit the Tokyo Shogi Kaikan in order to improve his shogi skills and even let his hair and nails grow longer. As a result, even Murayama's teacher Mori Nobuo Shichidan said that Matsuyama bore a striking resemblance to his late student. Matsuyama commented that when he read the book on Murayama, he had wanted to act as the latter and was especially touched by how he used his life to pursue his passion. It was especially difficult for him to portray the inner world of Murayama who was battling his illness so in order to know more about Murayama, Matsuyama went to visit his grave in Hiroshima and met with his parents and teacher Mori Nobuo before interviewing patients who had the same condition. As such, with his preparations to portray Murayama as accurately as possible, Matsuyama was confident about making a strong impression on everyone who watch this movie.

The novel's author Osaki revealed that the first time he was approached about the movie adaptation was 10 years ago and he was convinced by the production crew's passion and perseverance after all these years of hard work. He was especially impressed with Matsuyama's efforts in changing his image to play the role and is eagerly anticipating about seeing Murayama on screen for the first time in 17 years.

Filming began from last month and is expected to end in the middle of this month.

Kenichi Matsuyama to return as L in new movie "Death Note Light up the NEW World"

Matsuyama Kenichi will be reprising his role as L in the new movie "Death Note Light up the NEW world" which will be screened in cinemas from 29 October. This is the first time in 8 years that Matsuyama is playing the character since the 2008 movie "L change the WorLd".

In the new movie which takes place 10 years after the fateful battle between Yagami Light (Fujiwara Tatsuya) and L, 6 volumes of Death Note are scattered in the human world thus causing new chaos when a series of murders start happening. The key characters in the new movie include Mishima (Higashide Masahiro) who is very knowledgeable about the Kira case, Ryuzaki (Ikematsu Sousuke) who is L's successor and the terrorist Shion (Suda Masaki) who is a fan of Kira. Toda Erika will also be back to play Amane Misa while Ryuk's voice will be played by Nakamura Shido again.

Although L will be featured in the new movie, he will appear for just 3 minutes to share his thoughts on why he used the Death Note to defeat Yagami. As to how he will appear, it will only be revealed in the film. Matsuyama commented that L was a memorable and signature role for him but given the gap and his current physical and mental condition, it would be too much for him to act as L for longer than this time. The producer Sato Takahiro commented that L's return in the new movie is a fan service and intended as a proper "handover" to his junior Ikematsu who comes from the same agency as him and plays L's successor, Matsuyama was then invited to come back to play L again.
