Tsutsumi, Matsuyuki cast in "Galileo" movie
Tue, February 26, 2008 (5:47am EST)

It was announced on Monday that Shinichi Tsutsumi and Yasuko Matsuyuki have been cast in the movie "Yougisha x no Kenshin," based on an award-winning novel by Keigo Higashino.

The novel is part of the "Tantei Galileo" series, which was the basis of a Fuji TV drama series this past fall. The drama, titled "Galileo," starred Masaharu Fukuyama as the brilliant physicist Manabu Yukawa, who helps a detective (Kou Shibasaki) solve baffling crimes.

Fukuyama and Shibasaki, along with the main cast of the TV series, are reprising their roles for the movie. Matsuyuki plays a suspected murderer, while Tsutsumi plays Yukawa's true opponent, a mathematical genius.

The movie, which was announced in October, is being directed by Hiroshi Nishitani. Filming has been under way since mid-January, and production is expected to be finished in time for a fall release.

My Review: 8/10

The first thing I thought when I first started watching this drama was, gO no, theyfre trying to recreate Trick!h

After watching a few more episodes, I decided this wasnft such a bad thing because they were pulling it off very well. I found each of the mysteries quite fascinating and although some gimmicks were a little tiresome, on the whole I quite enjoyed the various plots.

It was nice to see Kou-chan in such a refreshing role. Ifve been a big fan of hers for a while but she always seems to fly just below the radar. I think Ifll bite the bullet and finally vote for her. This was my first drama with Fukuyama Masaharu and I think Ifm in love. I donft know if itfs HIM or his character, but he was very attractive in this drama and played the perfect Galileo.

From all the dramas Ifve seen, this one had the most elaborate, and the strongest, supporting cast. It was fun to see many familiar faces pop up and I found myself anxious to see who would appear in the next episode.

Overall, the drama is somewhat forgettable in the sense that it didnft quite reach the status of Trick, but it was enjoyable to watch and I had some fun with it.

Finished this drama yesterday.... 8/10 from me.

I enjoyed the entire drama, save the tiring and ultimately cornball "flash of brilliance" from "Galileo' himself... Really liked the interaction between Fukuyama Masaharu and Shibasaki Kou, but there wasn't very much growth or relationship development between the two... Let's see if the movie remedies this.

All the geeky science talk and experiments were way cool, but the wacky contraption at the end of the last episode (10), was pushing believability. Sweat

I dunno, I liked that. I was only going to give this a 7, but the final episode, especially the last 15, 20 minutes was great, which bumped it up to an 8 for me. I absolutely cracked up when:

Yeah, that was pretty neat. Before I forget, props to Suzuka Ohgo, she was in episode 5. She was the lead in Sexy Voice and Robo and it had to be at least halfway thru episode 5 before I even noticed that her mother was being played by Miki Mizuno. You've got to be doing something right if I don't notice Miki! I think Ohgo has a very bright future, unfortunately we'll probably see a string of squeaky voiced Morning Musume rejects in lead roles before she gets another chance. Shake Head

Heh, I actually recognized some equations... how sad Sweat Seems as if the drama wasn't marketed towards the geeks though since most times these equations had nothing to do with the mystery.

Yeah, those "hot flashes" of his bordered on the ridiculous as the drama progressed. Smile
