^ I agree, 'Doc' is great! Applaud

Usually when I'm watching any big sports event like the World Series, NBA Finals, etc. I usually have the sound turned off because the network guys are so awful. But with the Stanley Cup Finals I keep the sound on.

I'd like to hear Tim McCarver pronounce Niklas Hjalmarsson, David Krejci, or Jussi Jokinen!!

Is history in the making again? After being down 3 games to none, the Kings beat San Jose 4-1 to even the series at 3 games apiece. Wow!

KINGS WIN!!

KINGS WIN!!

KINGS WIN!!

In double OT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRBtTIY572s

I didn't realize Kings coach Darryl Sutter has a Japanese connection. Found this on the web: Despite a strong showing in the WCHL Sutter fell to the 11th round of the 1978 NHL Entry Draft where he was selected by the Chicago Black Hawks 179th overall. Sutter was dejected by his low draft position and felt an NHL career would not be possible. Pat Shimbashi the co-owner of the Lethbridge Broncos offered Sutter $13,000 (Canadian) to join the Iwakura Tomakomai of the Japan Ice Hockey League for the 1978–79 Season

Somehow the Anaheim Ducks have made it to the Western Conference finals even though they have a Maroon: http://ducks.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8474034

AND a Stoner: http://ducks.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8470886

Was on the freeway driving to Gardena (to Sakura-ya to buy wagashi) when I heard Al Michaels being interviewed on talk radio. He related a bit of trivia about when the NHL was just the Original Six.

Back then the teams carried no back-up goaltender. So each home team had to supply a house goalie. That person would be dressed in regular clothes and sit in the stands. If one of the goalies--it didn't matter if it were the home team's or the visiting team's--were to get injured and not be able to continue playing, the house goalie would get dressed in the appropriate uniform and take his place.

Anyway, last nights game was pretty good. Tampa Bay was in control for 53 minutes but unfortunately for them its a 60 minute game.

Teuvo Teravainen had the tying goal and assisted on the game winner. His biggest fear: "When I scored the goal, I think the first thing was, eOh, no, I have to go do media now.h

Typical Finn. OMG

There used to be a Japan Hockey League but they folded up a few years ago. Now Japan is part of the Asian Hockey League: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asia_League_Ice_Hockey

And several years ago Yutaka Fukufuji became the first Japanese player to play in the NHL:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yutaka_Fukufuji

I had never heard of that league.
That's quite the accomplishment.

Found this on YouTube. It's called "The Beer League" and even though it's about hockey, you find the same players in other leagues. Whether it's slow pitch softball, or a basketball league, every team has the one super competitive guy that HAS TO win, the guy that's just there to pick up chicks and get laid, the know-it-all etc. But since these guys are in Canada it's set in hockey. I thought it was hilarious:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1eDw1Qa4sY

Mr. Hockey passes away at 88: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/gordie-howe-1.3628425

For two or three years starting around 1976 there was a WHA franchise in San Diego. I went to a game when they were playing Houston where Gordie was playing alongside his two sons. Okay, the WHA was probably a notch below the NHL, but if you get a chance to see Babe Ruth, you take it.
