Eve,
It's not that bad. I watched this and enjoyed it. Liked several of the actors. It's pretty to look at and the costumes are very fresh considering they use them for all the historicals.
It's just that you have to suspend your beliefs and go with the shamans and the signs and portents and believe that the nobility in Joseon days were either kind and just or total villains and murderers in their own families. It really is a mystery romance and has the happiest ending you ever saw.

Keep watching. Applaud

There are two Korean dramas that I have been watching recently and I thought they were very worthwhile. One is modern one 'Happy ending' Not really new but lovely family story which is quite unusual. Lovely piano OST. Great cast. It flows so easily and it is affectionate, sad, funny, and it will either make you feel so good or maybe a little sad, but you will like it one way or another. These characters are real human beings.

The other one is 'Queen Insu' which also is not a recent offering. Maybe you saw it. I really must say that it has me totally hooked even tho I have no subtitles. I do not speak Korean but this is one real story that I cannot leave alone. I even watch repeats and I still have not seen the whole drama yet. Incredible cast. I do know about the actual history so I can follow pretty well. don't want it to end.

The suspension of belief was too much for my husband. But now I think I will finish it myself. Or skip to the last few eps. Beaten

Currently watching Ohlala Couple, and I must say I cannot stop laughing from this Korean drama. Actress Kim Jung Eun and Actor Shin Hyun Joon star in this romantic comedy and so far it's been so good. They start out as a married couple, but Yeo Ok(Jung-Eun) catches her husband Soo Nam(Hyun-Joon) cheating on her with another woman. Without giving too much away for those who haven't seen it, basically they end up switching bodies in an attempt for them to experience the struggles of what the opposite sex has to go though in life.

Started Heartless City and have run out of praise for Jung Kyung-ho, who is sexy badass in the drama. Loving his layered performance and his every scene has me glued to the screen. Music is good and cinematography is lovely.

^ I needed a break from anything Japanese so I watched I Hear Your Voice and Heartless City too.
I hear your voice is quite entertaining with a good mix of romance and mystery. I think the young main character is lovely and hot.

Heartless City was quite good though equally unrealistic, silly ending too.

Has anyone some recommendations for some edgy Korean romantic or mystery drama/movie?
I liked Secret Garden, Coffee Prince, Coffee House and I hear your voice as romantic comedies and Evasive Enquiry Agency, Bad Family, Scandal in Old Seoul as mystery comedies. I couldn't get into Vampire Prosecutor for some reason.

Heartless City was pretty kickass for the first eight episodes, but the police got progressively stupid and the supposed female lead (Soo-min) was a complete moron, and the plot kinda lost its way. The ending was anti-climatic as well because some characters got a lobotomy, as is usual for k-dramas. Shi-hyun, Safari and Soo are still all kinds of awesome though.

For edgy Korean romances, I can only think of Que Sera Sera.

I enjoyed the following rom-coms:
- Dalja's Spring
- Story of Hyang-dan (2 episodes)
- Love & Marriage

For melo romances, try Will It Snow for Christmas?, The Princess' Man

I've also heard good things about these:
- TEN
- Conspiracy in the Court
- Joseon X Files (one of these days I'll get to it!)

Chuno and Story of a Man are also worth watching, although Chuno sorta meandered a bit from the middle.

At present I am watching on TV a very funny drama called Princess Aurora. It is quite unusual for a Kdrama. Very tongue in cheek at times and makes fun of very serious problems in other dramas. the cast is very talented and they all make their weird situations seem real. It won't make you ponder but it will give you light refreshment in the hot weather I think. I like it very much.

thanks for the suggestions - I'll check out a few w00t! Muack

Update: I went for Dal Ja's Spring because the leading man was also in Evasive Inquiry Agency. It's fluffy and fun - though I think I will need a long time to finish it.

I realise it's been months since... but did you manage to finish Dalja's Spring?

I started You From Another Star, with Jeon Ji-hyun and Kim Soo-hyun. I like both of them, and Jeon Ji-hyun is really rocking the role.

Just can't see Joo Won as Chiaki. So not a Tamaki Hiroshi.

She and Tamaki were so adorable together, I really enjoyed watching them (and listening to the fabulous music, of course).

Yup. Smile

You can't be a music fan if you didn't appreciate the terrific pieces they used in the series... I still listen to them to this day. Victory! Peace!

That's true, I really like the pieces they used, very good choices.

I am still wondering who would make a better Chiaki than Joo Won. So far I've been drawing blanks... but maybe Lee Minki?
