This is quickly becoming my favorite too. The direction and pacing of the drama makes them such perfect counterparts. And as much as Yuko makes me swoon, it's Kimura who's stealing the show.

Favorite all around couple in a long series was Karasawa Toshiaki and Matsushima NAnako in Toshiie to MAtsu.

Okay, so #3 was half done in jest (), but I was serious about #4.

And obviously I haven't seen that many J-dramas, hence my use of the qualifier "so far" for my Top 5 list.

Wait--did you drop that little zinger because you've actually watched TATTA HITOTSU NO KOI (and can therefore bash the leads' performances with authority )? Or because you merely despise J-Pop Idols in general, and believe that nothing good can ever come out of their acting projects--solely on account of their being J-Pop Idols?

I know you found Kame rather atrocious in that tanpatsu he did with Ueno Juri (which I haven't seen, BTW, so I'm not contesting this), but his performance in THnK was more than decent. (His best work in the 4 dramas I've seen him in, IMHO.) I found the core love story between those two main characters simply riveting, and their chemistry palpable and solid. (Hence Kame x Ayase making it to my list.) I don't think they do Young Love like this anymore in J-dramas. Kame may never become a Serious Film Actor in three lifetimes, but from what I've seen in THnK, he may actually have found his niche as a Romantic Lead.

Bingo... Gokusen and its wretched sequels were more than enough to convince me of that.

Granted, there have been a couple of male J-Pop Idol dramas which I've seen that were quite good... Koi ni Ochitara comes to mind with SMAP Guy and Dotch Cooking Show regular Kusanagi Tsuyoshi.

But I can't think of the other one.

He was indescribably bad.

His best scene was when Juri-chan flipped his puberty-stricken body through a wood floor into a basement... Worth the price of admission, I'd say.
