Anyone here been in a blackout before? Its been a big news in the USA for two days straight now. Three or four states in the east coast of the US experience blackout including the state of New York. I thought blackout was fun when i was young.

yah.. singapore's news was also reporting that big blackout.. so you experienced it..??

well.. a blackout did happen to my house once when i was about 10.. but then when we went out to check.. only my house had no electricity.. as we live in a block of flats it was kind of wierd.. only when my mom checked the box at the stairway landing then she realised the reason.. a bird had built its nest inside the box.. accidently turning the main switch off... hehe it was soo interesting.. i had to sit outside the corridor to do my homework wait for my electricity man to fix it again.. neighbours were rather surprised to see me and my bro in our pjs doing homework in the corridor... Yeah California about a year or two ago experience blackout on a fairly regular basis because the electric company screwed us over. But these thing was no big deal i grew up in a place where there were no electricity of any type. We used candles and gasoline lamp for lumination. The thing i likes about a blackout is that you can see the sky so clearly , the stars, and moon seem bigger and brighter.

Yeah, I remember that. Gov. Davis botched things up big time. He'll be gone soon after the recall election takes place. I can't believe I voted for that dope.

i was stuck on a train when that happen. The train lost its power on the bridge around 4 pm. lucky it wasnt in the tunnel because no ac, 120 degree down there and pitch black. i have to wait 2 1/2 hrs for emergency workers to guide everyone off the train. After that i walked home from there. I walked about 4-5 miles home. i couldn't catch a bus because its always jam pack and traffic was a mess due to no traffic lights was working. When i was walking home i saw people helping each other, offering rides to people that are going to the same destination, people volunteered to be traffic guards to help keep traffic moving around intersection. The city really pulled it self together. I got home around 9 pm. I saw many people walking with flashlights because the streets was pitch black. I camped out on my roof all night, cause it was too hot to be indoors with no electricity. The city was dead quiet, like a ghost town with no lights. The only lights you see was highway traffic, emergency work and police scanning the neighborhoods. Power was restored after 12 hrs but for others it took 12-24 and probably longer, cause some still dont have power yet.

Yeah, I saw the news on CNN & FOX. That really sucks! No power...especially in the summer when it's hot! And at night, even worse! I really feel sorry for those peeps who had to go home riding the ferry. The streets were hella packed. All that waiting. Sweat Shake Head

yep they showed peoples sleeping on the street. But there were no looting or crime happening at that time. People were actually calm and helpful toward each other. Good for New Yorker.

I've been in a blackout. It was right after an earthquake. We had to use flashlights because lighting a candle could cause an explosion.

I'm a New Yorker! But I'm actually very lucky cus I was just relaxin at home during the blackout. I had to go pick up my mom though cus she was stuck in Chinatown. And on the highway, I actually saw this guy with a naked butt. Yeah my mom didnt want to walk even though a lot of ppl did. And then the rest of the night was just really hot without ac and boring without tv or cpu.
The good news is that it was a lot easier to see stars in the sky without all the light pollution!
