No, unfortunately there isn't. Translation sites are set up for the Japanese, who can't use transcribed translations.

You have no choice but to learn writing and reading Japanese if you want to use translation engines.

Well, just when you figure you're gonna make it, just when you think you're really close, it all goes to hell again.

In this case it's my own fault, I applied for a job, and actually managed to get it. Unfortunately this means I don't know when I'll be able to finish the Grammar section.

Between now and 1,5 weeks I'll be leaving for Iraq. I will stay there for at least 4 months as a liaisons officer and interpreter/translator between the Japanese and Dutch army.

I will keep working on the Grammar section when I have the time, and I will also keep webmastering for The Foreigner, but other things will have priority as you can probably understand.

If you'd like more info on what things are "really" like in Iraq, then feel free to leave a message on The Foreigner's forum.

After a long wait, now finally the first half of the Japanese grammar section is online. This section will be expanded upon over time, but in essence already deals with every aspect of the Japanese grammar.

The introduction of this section lifts Japanese 101 above the level of a mere online course, and brings it to being a reference point for those who wish to know more.

As an alternative to the grammar section of Japanese 101 I recommend TheJapanesePage.com and A Logical Japanese Grammar, though these are still far from finished.

Well, being in Japan was not really a culture shock to me like it is most americans that are with me, yet I came here knowing no japanese..... and I've moved on to talking like a 7 month old baby since then.

I'm not so interested in learning the way other people do.... they learn though books that teach you only the politest little phrases and sayings, but when speaking like that to japanese people.... you get the hehe look.

With that being said..... I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions through websites or what not, where I can teach myself conversationalism.

Thanks.

your site sounds very promising - i've always wanted to see what shows airs in Japan Smile

i'm gonna check out your site when i get the chance.

and i agree with what you said, about watching TV shows and etc. to help you with learning another language. i, myself, am very interested in learning about the Japanese language and culture. it has always been my dream to go visit Japan one day and experience all the things they have to offer. Japan is a really beautiful country.

but sadly, i doubt i'll ever go visit Japan. with all the current financial problems i'm in and the "education" i've recieved, my chances are very slim. it's near impossible for me to study the Japanese language..

who knows, maybe my luck will one day turn around.
( maybe one day an angel will come down from the heavens and grant me one wish Bleah )

At the page below you can enter a URL to any Japanese Site and once the site has been opened, you can mouse over Kanji you don't understand and it will give you a pop-up with the Hiragana-reading of the kanji and English translations.

What is the best way to learn Japanese? My favourite learning method is conversation exchange. This way you can practice your second language by speaking to a native speaker (have a look at the website below).

What about you? What do you think is the best way to learn Japanese?
